Question: What is a good reason for a need of a 4 year degree in shipping/receiving work? I work in the receiving department for a very large orgnization. I have an Associate's degree in Business and would like to continue for a Bachelor's degree, but my employer won't pay for it unless I put together a sort of portfolio and something that explains my departments need for my having a 4 year degree. I work a lot with Procurement in the part of making sure goods are received appropriatly and therefore can be paid. I also work with accounting in regards to the receipt of goods. We have a group of about 100 people and I work in the main nerve of it all. The office I work in is like the brain of the whole operation. What are some good ways to express my need of a 4 year degree for my group? Especially, when my co-worker has just a 2 year degree also.

Answer: Maybe it's like sending you to school to become a doctor and you will be working the docks?? It's their money and they want to keep you there . If you want to further your education pay for it yourself and move on!

Answer: Depending on the size of the company , that may be included in your responsibilities.

Question: Do you know any WOMEN in the field of SHIPPING/RECEIVING/LOGISTICS? You don't have to be a woman to answer this question! Do you know any kick a** women who are dedicated to the field of shipping/receiving/logistics? Is she a supervisor/manager? Are some of the male supervisor/managers jealous of her abilities? Answer: I used to be one of them. I wasn't driving forklifts but I had to deal with the drivers. My day would consist of getting the packslips 10 times a day (more or less depending of how many boxes we would receive), do data entry, deal with the decrepancies, fax and call the plastic suppliers or toy maker (I was working for Mega Bloks, the toy company) print labels, tell the lift driver where to go and where to put the toys/boxes of plastics (before they melt them into toys)/boxes of toys (one that make sounds, like figurines)/boxes of boxes etc. My supervisor was a woman. She knew her job so well. She was firm but also very understanding if there was a problem. She would also understand we go on cig breaks if we needed it or if it was a slow day. As long our job was done. Everyone in the department and in the company itself had great respect for her, because she was very good. The fact that she was a woman had nothing to do with if people were jealous of her or not. They were seeing her as a co-worker, not a female co-worker. And working in a toy company was very fun also. When ever I was going to Toys r' Us I could tell who, when and how they made each items lol

Question: What is the starting pay for shipping and receiving clerk in Atlanta? This is the only job experiance I have, and i'm currently planning A move to Atlanta from New York. I wanna make sure I find A job quick as possible. I work for Kmart and sears, and stay on both jobs less than 5 months. I wanna know how much I can get paid at wal mart and kmart if I applied for shipping and recieving postion. Please don't try to answer if you don't know the correct answer for my question.

Answer: it will be less than in New York, you can make more through a temp company and be hired sooner, but the temp co will not offer , but they may give you the rate of pay over the phone. Send out resumes and good luck

Question: If you work in shipping and receiving in the stock room and? your a receiver, have you ever dealt with a new vendor who put out a shipment on the floor by mistake w/out you checking in product 1st--with them b4 hand? Did you scream at them? Or did you kindly let them know the procedure?

Answer: In a department like this, you would have to keep your cool. It doesn't help when people start shouting at one another, or make people feel like nothing. It is a hard thing I know, but sometimes you just have to calmly let them know the procedure.

Question: What is a Shipping & Receiving Associate Job? What would this job consist of? Does a person need special skills or training? Is it a job for women?

Answer: Usually an entry level job, no real special skills or training. You pick up mail or receive mail. Package items for shipping. Weigh & post them. Take them to be mailed or arrange for shipping. Some heavy lifting. If a job can be done by a woman, then it's for her!

Question: How much in california does a person in shipping and receiving typically make an hour?

Answer: What is the job? Is it a managerial position? A manual labor position? A secretarial position?

Answer: Without connection, you have to go there in person to apply. Going there in person will also help you evaluate the place and the people who work there.

Question: What is the definition of "production and planning department" and "shipping and receiving?" i would like a "kid-friendly" definition, because i am in an elective called "Intro to Business" and i can't find the definition anywhere!!!

Answer: Production is the department that produces the items the company manufactures. (General Motors makes cars.) Planning department makes sure all of the processes (labour, materials) are in place so production can flow smoothly. (IE: no interruptions in the manufacturing process). Think of a car assembly line and someone forgot to order enough wheels. (That would be the result of poor planning.) Receiving department looks after parts etc... purchased by the company that arrive everyday that are used in manufacturing. (eg: the wheels) Shipping: this department ships the company's finished products (eg: automobiles) to the company's customers. (Car dealers are the manufacturer's customers.)
