Question: How much product can a warehouse order picker using a hand pallet jack do in an hour?
Answer: Depends on pick density i.e. is it typical that maybe 3 items are picked without moving the jack, or go you have to go two aisles over between picks for a typical order. And to some extent also, on size, shape and weight of product, and various other parameters.
Many warehouses have standards for picks per hour. Often they have been developed by Industrial Engineers and are based on the parameters of your particular warehouse. Standards might well vary for different areas of the same warehouse.
Question: Warehouse job - order picker? I'm starting my first job tomorrow as an "order picker" for a clothing plant. I'm not really given any information besides having to use some kind of "scanner" to scan items, go to various locations in the warehouse to pick up items and put it in a bin. (i kept trying to press for details but the lady just repeated what she said -_-)
This is a fast-paced job. Based on what i'm given above, can someone tell me more information and tips?
I don't want to mess this up seeing how this is my first job!
Answer: from someone who has had many jobs
in his career........
job tips--
listen and do not YET joke with the other
employees. Ignore any teases.
ASK before starting if you can watch someone else do the work expected so that you can copy them.
be early by 15 min to work. Get good
sleep the night before.
volunteer that you are nervous when you get nervous.
LET nothing upset you--no comments,
no actions by others........
be cool and collective. Some "veteran
workers" feel it is their 2nd job to
tease new people.
if you are asked to do something even
by a supervisor that does not seem
right to you, ask for clarification and
then ask for the reasoning........
otherwise, do your best.
this is not forever.
the company earns money by your
labor, and pays you.
if it turns out not to be right for you
after 1-2 months, or weeks, admit it
and quit.
excellent question!
cheers!
Question: Order picker? (job)? They don't have a very good description about what it is.... all they say is its in a warehouse... does anyone know exactly what an order picker is?
and i'm a tiny girl.... BUT they say the max. you need to lift is 50 pounds and i can do that because i weight train... do you think they'd hire a small female... or are they most likely looking for a buff male.......
Answer: When you order something from a company, the order picker is a person that takes a printout of what you ordered and runs around the warehouse to get the various items and bring them to the packing area.
Depending on the stuff in the warehouse, this would typically be an easier job for a big guy than a little girl, but if you're comfortable lifting, there's no reason you couldn't do it.
Probably more important than your size is your ability to accurately read the part numbers on the packing lists and a git-r-done attitude. At least it would be to me, if I were doing the hiring.
---
Edit: There may also be some minimal computer skills required, so you can check off items and orders as you pick them. Usually this isn't very complex, you just need to be able to follow the process instructions they give you.
Question: Warehouse Picker question? If as an order picker you are told to double check all zeros on picking tickets before shorting an item to a customer and recieve a pick ticket showing an item as : Ordered 2, Shipped 0, what should you do?
Answer: I'd make sure they got the 2 they ordered.
Question: How much electricity (in watts) does an electric forklift battery charger actually use.? I can calculate various chargers' maximum draw (based on volts times amps) but doesn't a charger cycle down to a trickle charge after a certain period. I want to know roughly how much a standard battery for a counter balance truck, order picker, and a walkie-rider takes to charge (in watts).
Answer: Sophisticated chargers such as what we build here don't necessarily go down to a trickle charge unless programmed to. But it's not really necessary, we have customers who charge at and even above battery amp-hr capacity rates all the way to 100%, provided periodic equalization charges are also performed.
As to your question and ignoring losses, the voltage of the battery times the kiloamp-hour capacity of the battery gives you the energy storage capacity in kWhrs. Watts is a rate, which, times time is energy, and you may charge a battery at a very wide range of rates, from trickle on up. If you want fast charging it will take more watts. We make chargers up to 30kW at 500A, which is able to charge a fully-depleted 48V, 1000Ahr battery in about 2hr. Of course, such aggressive rates require that the battery pack have it's own dedicated monitor, permanently mounted and powered, which communicates to the charger information like state of charge, electrolyte temperature, etc when plugged into the charger.
As far as efficiency, it's pretty good, at least chemically. Where the losses are is mostly resistive, in the plates and cables according to I^2R. Even taking that into account, it's still pretty good, though I couldn't give you a solid number for either case. It also depends on how aggressive your charge rates are to some extent, and what percentage of amp-hrs is spent equalizing, which is mostly wasted (yet necessary for good battery life) power.
I think a reasonable and conservative estimate might be to assume efficiency at maybe 75%, though it could be higher. I'm certain that it is much higher than propane-powered.

As to the charger efficiency, ours is pretty good. I'm the test engineer in that department, our larger units are well over 90% efficient near full power.
Question: What is an equitable method for having six partners take turns picking game dates from 61 baseball games? In a strict repeating 1-6 order the earlier pickers have a permanent advantage to take the most popular games before the final pickers get their turns. So the sixth picker finds the best games gone before he can make even a few picks. How can we vary the picking order to make it more equitable?
Answer: Do a blind draw.
Put all 61 game dates in a neutral zone. for example: record the game data on slips of paper and put each one in a sealed envelope and then at random have the players point to an envelope and put it unopened in front of the player. Then have each player draw in turn and do the same as the first drawer. When all the envelopes are chosen, you should have one left. You can then draw straws or throw one die to see who gets the final envelope. Then all envelopes can be opened and the players can, if they want, trade among themselves for any particular game that a player would like to see.
Question: Do you think that postmen deserve the pay rise they are asking for? For the level of skill the job involves which is similar to an order picker in a warehouse? People in the north in a warehouse job would kill for the wage they are on already (about £2 - £3 more per hour)
Answer: You have to be in for 4am... sort through stacks of mail... putting it in to your walk for each street and road... then sort each cubby hole in to house number order... then you get out at around 7 to 8am... then you gotta walk around with heavy bags on your shoulders... and now they want you in for longer hours.. like till 3pm.
Personally I would be happy to never get post and just do electronic mail. I hate getting post... especially junk mail.
Question: Im looking at these wherehouse jobs and the ads say order picker experience required and ......previous experience required.....
I have no experience.....do you think I should apply anyway seeing as i have steady employment history and one of my jobs was in nursing and required heavy physical lifting of people and working in stressful environments.....?
Answer: Go for it, the worst that can happen is they say no. You never know what they'll say until you try it, maybe they'll give you a shot!
Question: of all the jobs you've held, which one stands out as the most heinous, and what did you learn from it? with me, it was anything to do with fast food, I knew almost immediate it was not for me, I also worked at as a order picker for shaws, I would have operated a forklift, I decided against it, I'm kind of weird about a possible harming myself type job, what about you all???

Question: Laptop Mount for Industrial Truck? I have a Yale Type E Industrial Truck (order picker with cage) and need to attach a Panasonic Toughbook to it. The attachment can remain permanently on the order picker, but the toughbook would need to be removable. I'd like a tray that attaches to the cage for the laptop to sit in/be clamped to, but I would settle for other cost effective options.
Any ideas? Has anyone done this?
Answer: Go to a local welding/fabrication shop. Give them the specs and they can make u one to suit your needs.
Question: just returned to work after back problem, work said i not fit and reducing my hours am i entitled to any thing? reducing my hours from 7pm-4.30am too 7pm-11pm, i not be able pay rent and bills am i entitled for help in any way ,i work nights at morrisons order picker,i will be losing alot of money on these hours ,can iget help in any way
Answer: Hi , may i ask the natureof your back injury ,how long you were off sick and how long you have been employed by Morrisons? I,m a bit confused as you say that they claim you are not fit but yet have reduced your hours?? As that seems contradictory on their part as you are either fit for work or not. Does your job involve heavy lifting as the factors i,ve listed affect what action you can take. Firstly ,depending on how long you have been there and if over 2 years ,you can ask ,as is your right if your GP has declared you fit ,for an independent medical examination ,paid for by the company -of course this depends on how long you have been there. Secondly ,was your back injury sustained at work? As if it was ,then they will not want you to return ,so to speak as you can take them to industial tribunal and claim industrial injuries if your injury was a direct result of your job /if you did something , i.e. lift a heavy box alone when you were not suppose to ,depending on your contract. Without knowing the exact circumstances it is hard for me to answer in full but briefly ,if your GP/Doctor signed an insurance line declairing you fit , then you are -that is fact and they cannot "overule" that descision - if you are only working the 3hrs a night you may be entitled to help with benefits -again this depends on your circumstances ,i.e. if you have dependents and the amount of wages you are earning ,-ask your local DSS office re this asap .If your back injury is one of which may be prone to you having to take more time off sick then personally i would get a second opinion from an independent doctor for your sake as well as your employers as this can affect your long term employment prospects.I hope some of this is helpful to/for you and all the best.
Question: Can my Girlfriends dad file a Restraining order? Okay so.
So in October me and my girlfriend got together and we dated till December and then I got into some drug use. And her dad found out so he made her break up with me. And he HATES ME and never has liked me Even before the Drug thing.. and we have been living this BIG secret to hide our relationship from him.
And so i quit doing drugs and all that. and 2 weeks after we broke up we got back together.
And everything was going good. And in January i tried to call him and apologize to him and ask if i could date his daughter. ( Ha yes i know i already am)
And He didn't want to talk to me and made his daughter send a 2 page text to me saying all this stuff. And so he still doesn't like me.
And so on Tuesday of this week. My school got out a 2:35 and it was a blizzard so I called my dad to come and get me. And her dad or mom comes to picker her up at the elementary school next door at 3.
She has 2 siblings that go there.
So Me and her just were walking around and talking and holding hands.
And her dad comes walking up.
And asks '' What do you think your doing?''
I was like Ummmmmm.
And he said '' You better get going''
So i did.
Then i went home got on you tube and got a message from her saying her dad might file a restraining order.
I am 15 and She is 14 and we live in Utah.
Is this possible?
Oh yeah.
He told my girlfriend he has no problem with beating the Sh** out of me and doesn't care if he goes to prison. And she wrote a note telling me that. Which i still have.
And.
I have messages from my girlfriend telling me how much she loves me and all this stuff on youtube so i have proof im not stalking her or a threat to her.
So If i did get a restraining order Could i fight it? and what are the chances of winning. ( Yes i have a lawyer)
Answer: In Utah, oh hell yes he can get a restraining order.
Time to look elsewhere sonny boy. If you were with my daughter, I'd have no problem beating the crap out of you either.
