Question: What is the difference between an Electrician and Electrical Technician? I'm thinking of going to trade school, and the college I'm looking at offers Electrician courses as well as Electrical technician. If there is a difference, how do the jobs differ and what are differences in pay?
Thanks
Answer: An electrician is a tradesman specializing in electrical wiring of buildings and related equipment. Electricians may be employed in the installation of new electrical components or the maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure.
A technician is generally someone in a technological field who has a relatively practical understanding of the general theoretical principles of that field, e.g., as compared to an engineer in that field. They are generally much more versed in technique compared to the average layman, or even the professional in that field. A mid-level of understanding of theory, and a high-level of technique, is generally mastered by the technician in order to become expert in a specific tool domain
Question: what is the salary for an electrical technician in australia? I have applied for an australian PR. I have a 3 year electrical technician experience in dubai. How would i be able to make a life in australia. I am not married, 24.
Answer: It is not always easy to do Electricical work in Australia, as you must register and/or have a license from the relevant State or Territory electrical registration and licensing authority. Licenses are issued in various grades which define the work you can do.
A separate license is required in each State and Territory in which you may wish to work. However, there are arrangements for the mutual recognition of interstate licenses which facilitate the issue of similar licenses in different States and Territories.
To obtain a license to perform the full range of electrical work without supervision, you must pass a test in the Australian electrical wiring rules.
You should contact the electrical registration and licensing authority in the State or Territory, in which you intend to work, to determine how you can obtain electrical registration and/or license.
Getting an Electricians Licence may be easier to obtain in South Australia than in other Australian States, but it is relatively easy to then transfer the licence.
A wage as an employed Electrician will be lower than a fully licenced one that can do sub-contract work.
Question: What is the difference between an electrical engineerer and an electrical technician? I am very confused on what i want to do. I like the technology of electronics and everything, but i don't really know what i would be in for if i chose the electrical engineering field. I love car audio stuff especially, but also pretty much every new technology like computers and cell phones etc. Does one career get paid more?
I pretty much just need a description of what both of these learn in school and what the advantages/disadvantages would be.
Answer: As an electronic technician, you will be fixing circuit boards getting paid like anywhere between $11 an hour - $25 an hour. And all you need is a two year degree for that.
As an engineer. You will be designing circuits that technicians fix. making anywhere between $40,000 a year - $190000
Alot of engineers have to troubleshoot and do the same thing a technician does eventually anyways. I would pick engineer any day over being a technician

I'm torn, I want to join the navy and be a marine technician, fixing the boats and the engines and ****, but an electrical technician would get me more useful qualifications, though I like the idea of marine technician much better... what to do?!

I didn't get any of my choices.
They will more than likely put you where they want.
Question: I love electronics though Iam an electrical technician. But when I read it,I dont understand it,what do I do? I studied elecronics as a subject ,but now I badly need the practical aspects f it (applications), to help me repair electronic equipments.unfortunately, elecronics doesnt seem to flow in my blood yet I am a science man.
Answer: Some of the most useful information that will help you to understand electronics repair is found in the service and training manuals published by the manufacturers of the equipment. You can purchase many different service manuals inexpensively through eBay. Or you could check with someone in the business for old training materials. Usually these are obsolete after just a few years and get pushed aside or tossed into the trash. They become worthless to the people that already understand it but to you they could be invaluable.
Good luck.

Question: When a electrical technician uses the term HOT what does it mean? Such as "checked HOT, its ok"
Answer: I have heard this term used by electricians meaning a wire or circuit is live.
I have also heard it used by electronic technicians to refer to the Horizontal Output Transformer or Horizontal Output Transistor in a CRT monitor or television.
