Question: Problem installing oracle reports developer 6i on Windows xp? I have installed oracle database 9i and oracle forms developer 6i on Windows XP.But When i am going to install oracle reports developer 6i on xp, i get the error "sql*net is being used, stop all oracle application and services".After this i stopped all oracle services and application using oracle and tried installing again but found the same error again. Please help dont know what to do?

Answer: It sounds like some Oracle services are still running, or perhaps the TNS Listener is. Question: At 52 Should I take the road of Web Developer or Windows Administrator? Starting my IT Career with a MCSA or MCDST? Some suggested me to become a Web Developer??? I am 52 with almost no IT experience. I know my way around with XP and that's about it. My goal is one day to become SQL Server 2005 Administrator but I was told to become a windows administrator first. Now I am told that nobody will hire me without any IT experience and that I should troubleshoot PCs in some call centers and be a help desk employee and pass my MCDST. Now help desk troubleshoot all day minor things & don't make more than $15/h. Even if I have experience as an help desk IT is it going to put me eligible to be hired as a Windows Admninistrator later on? I wion't have any Server 2003 experience as Help desk IT guy so what is the point of all that. PLEASE HELP.

Answer: To expound apon my answer to your other question... With each generation of Windows servers, they needing less and less manual administration. Even what used to be routine manual maintence today can be easily automated. And this includes SQL Server as well. Sure there will always be a need for someone to manually analize logs and tweak SQL configuration, adjust table indexes for best performance based on how they are used, and so forth. But with what could take days of looking through raw SQL logs on SQL 2000, S@L 2005 does a pretty good of doing this analisys and just telling you what to do to fix it. Next generation likelly will almost have this automated. Consider that for all these increases in automation, there are developers hard at work figuring out how to make this happen, and with each generation they do more and more. Web applications on the other hand are still pretty young, and have incredible growh potential. And consider more and more applications are moving to the web. And I recomended a web application developer, not a web developer. Web application developers write code that in tuirn generates HTML, typically in a very dynamic context. A web developer typically develops the HTML themselves. This is a simplication, the two are similiar but different.

Answer: There is no Windows version. It only runs under OS X.

Answer: I would go with a computer and Linux. The MAC is too expensive and too proprietary to be of much use in the real world.

Answer: Houston. If you need specific work done I'd suggest you advertise your job on the many freelance sites where you can get bids from other developers anon. Programming can be done without having to be at a customers site.
