Question: Do I need a web developer or a web designer? How do I go about picking the right one for me? Do I need a web developer or a web designer? How do I go about picking the right one for me?
Answer: You do not need either if you are willing to put in the work. There are many web hosts that provide step-by-step assistance in web building. I suggest that you compare each host feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar to get the best match for your needs. The host that I chose also provides features to analyze work for optimal performance on the search engines.
Question: Where can i find a web developer who can work on a commission basis? Iam looking for a web developer who can work on a commission basis. I currently have over 300,000 pcs of stock to sell with more arriving on a weekly basis.
Answer: You could try Rent A Coder. I've not used the service as I've no need for it, but others seem pretty pleased with it.
Question: How big is the danger of moving web developer jobs overseas? I want to become a web developer or a web master, but I'm worried about possobility of moving those jobs overseas. How big is it?
Answer: Depends what kind of company you want to work in. Big companies - sure, it could be a problem. Small companies, less of a problem.
What you can do is become a web developer and be a contractor. Many companies won't farm out their support, they just get someone to build it, then they have their own people support it.
Question: I would like to become a professional web developer in PHP. What do I know and How do I improve My Skills? I am a php programmer. I would like to become a professional web developer. How do I develop my web development skills and what things are necessary to improve to become a professional web developer.
Answer: I really recommend Usenet (= news groups). There's no better way to find out how much you really know and how much you still have to learn than reading about the challenges that other developers are facing every day. Usenet is a very old part of the internet, it predates the WWW by over 10 years, but it's still running strong. You can access it with most email clients such as Thunderbird or Outlook Express. The advantage is that you'll get the new messages just like e-mails, and don't have to go to 20 different web forums.
You can also use groups.google.com to access news groups, but I don't recommend it (except as an archive).
Subscribe to the comp.lang.php newsgroup, download the last 500-1000 posts, read whatever looks interesting, and from that point on, follow the discussions and participate wherever you can. Answer the easy questions, ask questions yourself, try to understand everything that's said. Other groups that are worthwhile to subscribe to are comp.infosystems.www.authoring.misc (everything about (X)HTML and CSS) and comp.lang.javascript (very high level discussions there).
It's quite likely that your ISP runs a news server, probably named news.providername.com, but many ISPs have dropped Usenet access lately to avoid legal issues. Usenet is and always was a little anarchic, but don't let that stop you. If your ISP doesn't run a local news server, use "aioe.org". They're free to read and post. They don't allow binaries, but that's okay since you're only interested in the discussion groups anyway.
Before you post yourself, lurk a bit, read as much as you can so you can avoid some of the beginner faux-pas.
Other than Usenet, there are quite a few websites with interesting articles out there: webreference.com and weberdev.com would be two examples. But (IMO) nothing beats participation.
Hope that helps!
Question: Is it a good idea to become a web designer or web developer? I have recently decided that I would like to become either a web designer or web developer...I spend quite a bit of time online and really would like to learn how to build my own website. I am thinking of taking a few courses at the Art institute of Washington so I can get a diploma in web design. I suppose I just wanted to ask if it would be worth while for me to do so? I see many job listing around the area for web designers so I wouldn't have a problem finding work if I have a good enough portfolio but is web design a good career path to choose?
Answer: Web design and development is a good field right now. Most corporate jobs would go to people with four year degrees with a web design certification, but if you're good enough, you might be able to start your own business and find clients without a degree. Most clients would expect you to do both the design and the development, and provide or arrange for the hosting - they'll expect one-stop shopping for their site.
Good luck.
Question: What are the proper steps to take to become a web developer? I am wanting to get a job in the field of web development. I would like to know the steps to get a good job in a company as a web developer. What type of degree(s) are needed, is it better to be self taught. I don't know. Please help me
Answer: I am curious too. Actually Im trying to narrow down something Id like to do w/computers. I am currently a Business graduate & helping run a family owned business but Id like to try something new.
Question: What are the working conditions for a web developer? I have to do a project for school and I need to know some of the conditions that a web developer (i.e. Scripting languages and web design.)? Also if anyone could answer and of these questions is detail.
What are the hours of work?
Wat are the main duties?
What additional education did ou take to do this?
Are you satified with your job?
Answer: What are the hours of work?
Typically standard 9-5, 40 hours a week. Could be different if you work for yourself.
Wat are the main duties?
Building websites, coding and sometimes doing graphic design. There can also be some database management.
What additional education did ou take to do this?
Usually a degree in IT or computer science, with some training in graphic design.
Are you satified with your job?
That is a pretty subjective question. I worked as a web developer during college, and I enjoyed it very much.
Question: Can I become a web developer with this degree? Can you become a web developer with a design communications degree? You have classes in photoshop and illustrator but also learn HTML and other web languages, but could you use what you know there to become a web developer?
Answer: Absolutely!
The thing is though, with web development you are generally going to be hired more on your skills than your degrees. I would make sure that the school that will offer this degree has a proven track record with design.
