Question: financial engineering or telecom engineering in Singapore? I have a degree in telecommunication engineering (2nd class upper) and i am a CIMA passed finalist(Chartered Institute of management Accountants, UK). currently i am working for an investment research outsourcing firm in Sri Lanka as a quantitative analyst, working for an US investment bank client.
I am planning to come to Singapore. Could some one advice me which career i should take(telecom or financial eng) and which one is best paid and easy to find job in Singapore?
Answer: Sorry .... have no idea for Singapore.
Singapore being the IFC, there might be better prospects for the Financial people.
I'll be watching answers to know the reality.
By the way, the term "Financial Engineering" is some thing new to me ... think this is proper ?
Question: How do I get an entry-level business analyst job in atl before I finish my masters? I am getting an MBA in business analysis. I have 7 years telecom and project management experience.
Answer: Apply and tell them when you are going to finish fully.
Question: Where can I find some motivation? I quit my job as an academic researcher, hoping to find a position in the private sector while continuing with some freelance work. The past few months have been nothing but sheer disappointment. I had been hoping to find a position as a media/telecom industry analyst, but a couple job leads never panned out and I haven't received any other responses from the few firms that do this research. Then I cast a wider net for management consulting positions, but again got nowhere. I'm now expecting an offer from an HR consulting firm, but it has me even more depressed because I never wanted to go into HR. On the other hand, I'm tempted to pursue it rather than face further months of uncertainty and unemployment....yet I keep thinking this may be a career blunder.
I feel demoralized and unsure how to manage my life and career. I've read What Color is Your Parachute? but find it utterly useless. What can I do to stay motivated and press on with the job hunt?
Answer: You and I are in the same boat. I still haven't figured out what I want to do when I grow up. I hate the idea of my work life being reduced to a cubicle and being just a "number".
going to start my own business.... consider doing the same.
I have found though, that if I don't stay "engaged" with the outside world, that I lead myself towards a depressed state. Watch out for that.

Question: Doesn't it make you feel good to know that Obama has appointed someone who knows NOTHING about cars? The man charged with turning General Motors around said he knows nothing about the auto industry.
Edward Whitacre, 67, was appointed to run the automaker after it emerges from bankruptcy -- but by his own admission knows nothing about the industry he is overseeing.
"I don't know anything about cars," Whitacre told Bloomberg. "A business is a business, and I think I can learn about cars. I'm not that old, and I think the business principles are the same."
Whitaker, or "Big Ed" as he's known in the business, made his name running AT&T and its predecessors and is the only non-CEO to lead GM's board in half a century.
General Motors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and hopes to emerge from court protection in no more than 90 days. Whitacre will then step in and try to turn the company around.
But telecom industry analyst Victor Schnee told the the Assoicated Press that Whitacre's appointment was "bizarre."
"The guy accomplished a number of things in telecom and we all thought the book was closed," he said.
Former GM Chairman and chief executive Rick Wagoner was ousted by the Obama administration in March.
Answer: This brings the number of Obama created Czars to 15. Why we eveb have a pay Czar.
Now if we could just replace the word Czar with "unelected, evil, dictators, that answer to no one" you would have a better grasp of Obama's leadership.

Question: Getting Junior Level IT Job? In regard to Bus Analyst positions, I am finding that a lot of them are requiring years of certain software application experience. Do you have any suggestions how to uncover more Junior Level Business Analyst positions?
My business background is solid, and my techical background is decent. I have worked in telecom, taken A+ courses and the exam, built my own computer and am currently taking Java, SQL and Dreamweaver.
I live in San Diego, CA. Please let me know if you have suggestions on this. A recruiter associate of mine says that Junior Level IT jobs are rarely posted and are usually only internal hires. Let me know, thanks.
Answer: It is true that a lot of junior level jobs are not posted because they are fairly easy to fill and thus do not require spending money to post them. However, there are still plenty being posted. Have you look in more IT specific sites?
Your skills are more technical than a typical business analyst requires. BA usually has fairly good understanding of a wide range of technologies and software packages, but most importantly solid understanding of the business sectors.
A BA's role is to communicate with end users, gather requirements, then map them for developers to create the system. Although good technical skills can sometime save a lot of time during design phase, a solid business understanding and earning end-user confidence are far more important.
Best wishes.
Question: How to get a job involving travel to China? Hi. I've been working for 10 yrs for a major telecom company as a trainer and quality analyst. I hear people tell me that US companies all want to hire people who are willing to travel to China, who speak Chinese. Where are these jobs, i want one! I have been all over the internet and only find jobs in China. I don't want a permanent position in China. I want to work in USA and travel to China a few times a year for business. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can go about doing this? I need specifics, because like i said, i've already been all over the internet and come up with nothing! Xie xie.
Answer: they usually hire chinese american or green card holder to manage their outsourcing factories to meet the standard of US. The salary is high ($100,000 /year about 100 times than chinese worker who make $1000/year) and more freedom, you can play double blinds on both side.
