Question: Should a game developer's PC be higher grade than an up to date gamer PC? Long question, huh?
Well, I want to get into game development. My PC right now is about 5 years old. I suppose it's time for an upgrade. Well, I want to be able to play the games I develop but should my PC be a step up from the standard because they're in development? Should I buy everything top of the line to stay current?
Answer: Yes, simply because it makes work faster. The better your computer, the more work you can do at one time without it slowing down on you or even crashing on you.
You don't have to buy top of the line everything, especially when you're just getting started, but having a good computer is still important.
You don't need your computer to be a step up from the standard just because they're in development. Your computer will (should, if you do your job right) play your games just fine when you're done. Of course it'd be nice to have a super awesome top of the line computer, so if you have the money, go for it. But you don't NEED to have one.
Question: What are the best 3 PC games coming/or have come out in 2009? Priority: 64-bit / Vista
And please state the Game developer / game genre if known to you.
Answer: Upcomimg games in 2009 are;
Need4speed:shift
Ghostbusters
terminator salvation
modern warfare 2
the sims 3
Resident Evil 5
Question: Will PC games continue to support Windows XP or is it time to move onto Vista/Windows 7? Are game developers tapering off their support of Windows XP? Will Windows XP soon be scratched off the list of supported operating systems for the newest and more cutting edge games? If so, how soon? Thanks
Answer: You can still buy the pc games that are compatible with systems even older than xp at places like Half Price Books. There are also plenty of sites where you can download games for free that will work on XP and older systems.
Unless you feel you will absolutely die if you don't have the latest games then I wouldn't worry about upgrading your system yet.
It's already been proved repeatedly that Vista is a real pain. As for Windows 7 I for one would rather wait awhile to see how that turns out before I buy that system.
Question: using an hdtv as a monitor for pc games? I've been considering buying an hdtv for use as both a tv and monitor, but the fact that monitors and hdtvs have different resolutions concerns me on the pc gaming side. From what I understand hdtvs have a 16:9 resolution ratio (1920x1080) while monitors have a 16:10 ratio (1920x1200), my question is what would happen to the extra 120 vertical lines? I assume pc games are designed with the 16:10 ratio in mind, so would the resolution differences create a warped picture on the hdtv or do pc game developers create games with 1080p resolutions now? Are there any other concerns I should be aware of while contemplating using an hdtv as a monitor for pc gaming?
Answer: Almost all gaming video cards are capable of displaying at 16:9 aspect ratio so it's a non-issue.
Question: What happened to PC games? I don't understand why the consoles get tons of games but PC games don't get jack anymore. I mean seriously there are a lot more people with PC's then consoles so why have game developers stopped making good PC games?
Answer: PC gets more games than all three of the consoles combined, they just aren't advertised.
Question: is it just me or do game companies hate pc games? with the exeption of spore and a couple of MMOs, i see all the awesome upcoming titles coming out for the next gen consoles, most commonly Xbox 360. I, personally Hate consoles, i think working with a limited button controller is a drag. And, i dont want to pay anoher couple hundred dollars for a console when i already have a gaming pc. Why, all of a sudden, have all game developers switched to consoles!?!!? I demand pc versions of the upcoming awesome games.
Answer: Same here, I recently updated my PC for some serious gaming. come to find out all of the new releases are weak!! I agree with you though, so to answer your question... Its not just you. Its the companies and developers just letting us PC gamers down.
Question: Theoretically, is it possible to create a hack proof online multiplayer pc game? So many games are ruined because of hacks. Why don't game developers create a game that is hack proof? Is it impossible or too expensive?
A detailed explanation from a game developer would be appreciated.
Answer: Is it possible? Yes. Is it feasible with today's technology, no.
To make a hack proof game, EVERYTHING would have to be done server side. This obviously has a large consequence, the packets sent to the clients are much larger, thus slowing down the transfer rate. I don't think I need to tell you why that is bad.
Take a game like Counter-Strike for example: The reason hacks work is that the server sends info about all of the players to the clients computer, not just the ones the player actually sees. As long as the client has the information about the other players' locations, hacks are possible.
Could a game be programmed to only send information to clients that the client software actually "sees"? Yes, but it would be unplayable on today's networks.
Question: PC Games and PC Gamers? Okay the game developing industry is indeed a big business.
Game developers design games for different platforms and even multi-platforms.
Having a game exclusively on a specific platform can mean more sales for that platform.
In terms of hardcore games, the competitors are Xbox 360, PS3 & PC. All of them have multi-platform and exclusive games.
Why do PC gamers have to wait months even a year or more for games. Yes they add new content and new levels (sometimes), but PC gamers have nothing to do while console gamers play the life out of their games. > Assassins creed, gears of war, the halos - halo 3?, mass effect just to name a few.
Do you think this move shows that game developers are loyal to ALL their customers, or are they in just for the Benjamins.
PC games do port to the consoles but, they are mostly rts games. I play some rts games but get my joy from fps racing and other action oriented games.
Some rts's dont port to the consoles cause in some cases the issue is that there's some things you cant do with gampad instead of a mouse.
Answer: PC's are a smaller market. Of course they're in it for the Benjamins, if it weren't for the Benjamins there wouldn't be commercial games at all. There are some good user-created PC games though, mostly shooters.
The thing about PC's is, inconsistent architecture. If a developer wants to make a game for PC, they have to decide whether it's gonna be a game that uses all the gears of a dual-core PC - a relatively small market - or be compatible with slower-single cores. They also have to make it work on both intel and AMD processors, and with both ATI and NVIDIA cards. And with all ranges of RAM from 512mb upwards. They have to decide, are the players gonna be that core of key-and-mouse freaks, or does it need to work with a gamepad?
Ultimately, the better a PC game is, the fewer PC's it will run on. This is why the only ones that use a lot of processor power are the fps, because they have a dedicated customer core who will buy them. However this core is nowhere near as many people as have consoles. That is why commercial PC games have been forced basically into two small niches: key-and-mouse fps like UT, and rpg like Elder Scrolls or WoW.
Those PC-niche titles are often exclusive to PC, but they're the only ones that are, mostly.
The PC game market also fluctuates compared to how advanced PC hardware is, compared to console hardware. Back in the 1980's, the Commodore 64 stole video games away completely from consoles for several years. But Nintendo sneaked up and stole it back. In the last generation of consoles, as the consoles aged, PC's got better but the consoles didn't. This made more people choose pc's and made the market bigger. But the ps3 and xbox360 were designed to catch, literally, all the way up. Now you see PC's holiest of holies, Unreal Tournament, released on ps3. Elder Scrolls has made the jump too. So the PC game market is shrinking again.
Overall, with comparable hardware, developers prefer a stable platform that promises lots of potential buyers, and where they don't have to worry about being compatible with various different architectures.
If you want to see some games made by loyal devs, check out sauerbraten, a brilliant fps free to download. Or legends, or Wolfenstein Enemy Territory or its mods.
Question: Why can't games developers make games for PC and Mac, the way they do Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii at the same time?
I was just wondering... wouldnt dream of pc/mac gaming lol
Answer: For a number of reasons. Firstly, most PC games are developed using DirectX, which is only available on Windows and Xbox. More importantly, the Mac games market is quite small, as Apple's share of the PC market is still only around 4%-6%, and even within the demographic of Mac users, few people play games.
However, more games than you might realise do make it to Mac, particularly the big sellers. World of Warcraft, Quakes I-IV, Doom III, Halo, Unreal Tournament, Civilization, etc etc. Also, because Macs now run on Intel, there's nothing to stop you running the PC versions of games within an XP partition on your Mac.

Question: What is the best PC or Playstation game you have ever played? I am NOT referring to role playing games or card games not those. I mean games that involve real life events.
The best games i have ever played on PC or Playstation will be:
1. Tekken 3 (even tekken 4,tekken5 and tekken tag are no match for tekken 3)
2. Grand Turismo 3 (Grand tuismo 4 could not beat it.)
3. Grand Theft auto 3 (The best game i really enjoyed, even grand theft auto Vice city and san andreas could not match)
4. Battlefield 2 (definitely better than the 2142 version that came after it)
I think these are games that their developers have spent a lot of time thinking and developing them perfectly well.
So i will give each of them a 10 point!. For me they are all the best PC games ever created.
PC or Playstation games....
Answer: Some of my favorites among PC 3d games;
1. Counter Strike
2. Need for Speed
3. Grand Theft Auto
and so on... ^^
