Question: Network engineer?? what classes or training should i get to be come a network engineer?
Answer: Network engineer? Are you starting from scratch? If so, start with a Bachelor's degree and move on to your Master's Degree in engineering
Question: What are the first steps in becoming a network engineer or administrator? I am currently an IT Help Desk Tech for the local government and am getting an Associates in CIT. I would like to move onto an advanced career field. What would be my best route to becoming a network engineer or administrator? Also, is it better to specialize in something like network security or network hardware?
Answer: First and foremost, get to know the guys in that department before you leave that company. Get on a friendly basis with them; visit their working environment, hang with them for lunch, at the bar, everywhere. . .
It is more important whom you know rather than what you know. I'm not saying to end your education, but there are many, many talented guys looking for work with excellent credentials, and they end up getting a career change because they can't "break-in" to the field. On the otherhand, there are many "hanger-ons" working in technical fields who only got there on account of being friends with the managers etc.
Question: What is the difference between a network architect and a network engineer? I am looking to better understand my target audience for two upcoming projects (one for a network architect and one for a network engineer). Any help to better understand the similarities and differences would be much appreciated.
Answer: The way I understand it is that an architect designs networks and infrastructure but does not take into account various manufactures and models of components. Their work stops at the network diagram. On some occasions, if the architect is a business partner with a vendor like IBM or Dell... they will incorporate those products into the diagram. Again, its only on paper...
The network engineer can do both. The engineer is a person versed enough in the various technologies to not only put it to paper in a diagram but also make that paper a reality. This includes not just distributing the product but also setting it up and configuring it as well.
Question: What is the top salary for a network engineer? I was just wondering what would be the top salary for a network engineer?
Answer: well it depends if you have all the CCNA/CCNP/MCSE/MCSA cisco and microsoft certificates, you can expect starting wage of about 90,000+ but that will be years in the company previously, starting in the company i would say about 75,000+
since a network admin can earn about 100-200 per hour.
Question: what is the best Network engineer course if studing from home? Im looking to maybe start a course as a Network engineer. After reading reviews for some companies offering long distance courses im not sure what one to do.
Answer: You can teach yourself and take exams to become Microsoft Certified. Check out their website.
To teach yourself for free, there are torrents you can download with hundreds of computer textbooks covering all aspects of computer science from networking to operating systems to programming languages.
Question: How can I get a job as a network engineer if I have my CCNA but no experience? How do you get an entry level network engineer job? I find it extremely difficult to find work even with a CCNA certificate. Are there any companies that take in individuals as junior network engineers or interns?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is recruiting 3945 Junior Telecom Officers (JTO) through Competitive Exam to be conducted in various centres on 21st June 2009 (Sunday).
* JTO (Telecom) : SC-459. ST-239, OBC-989, General-1858 Total - 3545 Vacancies
* JTO (Civil) : SC-23, ST-16, OBC-69, General-92 Total - 200 Vacancies
* JTO ( Electrical): SC-15, ST-30, OBC-55, General-100 Total - 200 Vacancies

Question: What programming language is the most useful for a Network Engineer to know? I'm entering the networking field and its been a while since I've worked with any language.
I figured I might as well start from the beginning with a language that fits the field. What programming language is the most useful for a Network Engineer to know?
BTW. I'm studying for an CCNA and hoping to eventually work with Microsoft products after obtaining an MCSE.
James Trent, then what would prove useful to "stomp out your own ICMP traffic"?
Answer: Meh, it's more the networking knowledge than a particular language. I don't see any advantage you get in choosing one language over another.
One obvious choice is C, since it's relatively simple to learn and leaves low-level networking libraries there for you to play with yourself.
If you want an industry standard, pick Java, but it won't prove so useful if you're wanting to stomp out your own ICMP traffic.
Question: I have a bachelors degree in computer engineering how can I become a network engineer? I wanted to become a network engineer.
Answer: You have to get your Cisco and Microsoft certifications. There are other certification that would be beneficial but those are the main certs.
Start with Cisco CCNA certification which is lengthy, may take you a minimum of 4-6 months to finish course work, the test may take a few tries. They both cost $$$$ but they will pay themselves off in the end.
Your comp. eng degree will make you valuable but you will probably need the certifications to get hired.
If you apply to a network engineer position with out those certifications you need to demonstrate to an employer that you know how to work with MS Server and Exchange and possibly configure switches and routers.

Answer: Entry level:

Question: what is the difference between Network engineer, network support, Help desk and IT support? what is the difference between Network engineer, network support, Help desk and IT support and can I safely say I am looking for a position as network engineer, network support, IT support or help desk. or am I repeating myself if say that??? pleas help if you can and thank you!
Answer: Well, unless you are an engineer with an engineering degree from an accredited 4-year university, then no, you cannot say that you are an engineer. That is not just another term to sound smart, a lot will be expected of you.
A network engineer designs, plans, builds, test, and integrates systems. A high level of understanding and responsibility will be expected.
IT support would be the next level down, responsible for being able to configure all of the equipment that the network support staff have built. IT support is called upon to fix virtually any computer or network problem that arises within an office environment. This can be anything from replacing a broken mouse to figuring out what setting some idiot broke on his laptop and "can't remember what he did." IT support may also be required to reconfigure routers and access points at a moment's notice when a customer arrives and needs access to the company network.
Network support covers wiring up cabling and power cords, hooking up networking equipment ( switches, routers, etc. ), debugging outages, and sometimes basic configuration of routers and wireless access points.
Help Desk support is the bottom of the barrel, ranging anywhere from lower IT support to reciting line-by-line how-to help documents from Microsoft's website to people who cannot figure out the difference between a capslock key and a shift key.
Don't shoot too high, be reasonable. Nothing angers busy engineers and managers quite like a computer problem that they know how to solve ( and simply do not have the time to ), but then they have an IT guy who is little more than a Help Desk worker claiming to be of IT proficiency who cannot have the problem fixed by the time the meeting starts. At the same time, if you find that you can genuinely answer most questions that people ask you about computers, now might be the time to go for a few certifications ( A+, Network+, CompTIA, etc. ) and move up the chain.
Hope this helps, good luck!
