Question: Can majoring in Computer science get u towards becoming a Network Architect? and is Network Architect the same as Network Engineering?
Answer: From experience, having any sort of computer degree with help in the computer field, regardless of what the degree is in. I mean, it might help to match up, but if you know what you're doing, you'll succeed.
Network architect vs. Engineer .... different companies will have different job descriptions, but I have seen (again, in my experience) that the architect level sits somewhat at a higher level and helps to try and manage/design the overall environment while the engineer makes it happen. And that's not just in the Network area, but also systems and such.
Question: How do network architects design networks? Networks are designed for enterprise, corporate, and computer applications, but how are they designed? I want to ask an experienced network architect this question, hopefully one can answer it. Thanks!
Unfortunately I don't know anyone who can answer this question besides you guys. :]
Answer: The way a network is setup is based purely on the company's needs. The first question you need to ask yourself is "How many PC's will be attached to this network?" Basically you have to ask yourself how many users you are going to have. This affects what your scheme will be, whether you use multiple networks, or one big network. If you are dealing with 254 or fewer users, then one network is just fine. Go higher than 1012 users and you might want to consider having a big network rather than several small networks. Also you have to consider how many locations you will be having to deal with. If the company only has one location, this isn't an issue. But if you have multiple locations, the scheme can get messy. The hardest part about setting up a network is the pre-implementation. You must know what the company needs right now and what they will be needing in the future. Really the hardest part of a network is not really the hardware setup, but the folder/permissions scheme. Whether certain departments of the company use all the programs on the network or not. Get used to the phrase "Least privelage". Give the users what they absolutely need, and nothing more. Folders and permissions are the things you will most likely be dealing with on a daily basis if it is not planned well. There are really a ton of things you must consider, and it all depends on company infrastructure. There really isn't a model that every IT professional follows. It's all based on what company needs are.
Question: I have to find a Solutions Architect to work in Calgary, Where can I network for them, Help? I have a detailed job description for them but have no idea where to find someone and we need this job filled. Any websites I could look at or blogs or something?
Answer: Make sure your advertisement includes the specific type of computer system you want the solution for ... relevant, so you get to people who are experienced on the operating system, programming languages you already have paid for (not have to buy any new ones), type of data base system you have, and so forth.
Given those data points, there are job marts by applicationa area ... transportation software, manufacturing software, shareware professionals, web site designers, back office data base people ... and you can find those job sites via any search engine, by using combination of job & your data points.
Alternatively, you can go to the Yellow Pages in Calgary & find a head hunter firm that specializes in the type of technology that is relevant to your company ... look up under Employment Agencies.

Question: Does anyone know the name of the black actor that plays the architect on the series Crash on Starz? I watch the new series "Crash" on the Starz network. It comes on Friday night at 10pm. The actor that plays the architect is so hot....
Answer: IMDB it, you Just need to know his name on the show.
Question: What do Network Architects do?
Answer: Architects, there is a difference in actual responsibilities. A Network Architect primarily focuses on the design of the network and the implementation of that design while an actual Network Engineer is usually the one responsible for the actual implementation of the design. Similar to a Network Administrator or regular Network Engineer, Network Architects may also be responsible for some tasks relating to telecommunications as well.
In companies that combine the telecommunications responsibilities with that of the Network Architect, candidates may also be responsible for the analysis, engineering and execution of software functions for telecom voice and data. Other general responsibilities may include :
Design Modeling
Network Performance Planning
Network Capacity Planning
Establishment of Telecommunications Standards (LAN/WAN)
Some employers may also require their Network Architects to manage technology vendors. This would require candidates to stay abreast of how technology infrastructures are currently impacting and driving competitors. You may also be responsible for negotiating high level contracts and maintaining long-term relationships.

Question: How do I share my Hard Drive Over a Wide Area Network? I am a self employed architect and I work closely with another architect, we bounce work back and forth.
He is now moving house and will no longer be 5 minutes down the road, or it would be very helpful if he could see my hard drive (or at least one of my 3) since we exchange a lot of site photo's (normally about 150 MB's worth per job)
Is there an easy way to allow him access to one of my hard drives? We both use XP Pro with wireless routers and 4mb connection if thats ny help.
Answer: Several ways to go about this, and it depends on how technical you are, and if you want to spend money.
1.(free:moderately technical, not user-friendly) Set up FTP on the computer where you wish to share files. I use GUILD FTP for windows for this.
If your computer is behind a router where your computers are picking up an RFC 1918 space (192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x or 10.x.x.x) you will need to create a port forwarding for port 21 in your router.
A port forwarding is a section where you tell it "if you see somebody trying to make a connection to the routers IP address, then send that connection to this internal IP".
2. (pay: moderately technical, user friendly) Use PCanywhere the port forwarding is harder for this, but since it is a purchased product they have good docs and customer support for setting it up.
3. (pay, low technical, semi-user friendly) Use http://gotomypc.com
4. (pay, low technical, very user friendly, added convenience) Setup third party hosting for a storage area that you both can access from any computer, anywhere. An example is:
http://www.ibackup.com/
5. (pay, high technically, user friendly) Set up a VPN tunnel between your houses and share the drive as if it were on a local network. Setting up VPN is vendor specific, so you would have to look into it.
Question: If I join the Air Force reserve part time the same time I get Information Technology career as becoming Networ If I join the Air Force reserve part time the same time I get Information Technology career as becoming Network Architect and Engineer full time?
Answer: What are you asking?

If that's not what you're asking, then can you please re-phrase your question?
Question: Does Anybody Think There is a Diffence between IT and ITC? As in IT ( Coder's ,Architects , Network Engineers ) And ITC (Admin user's, Sectaries) Or do you think they are all as one!
As many people seem to think that if they worked with computers or help their friend set up a Network then they can work as a Network Admin!
Answer: Come on, there are too many acronyms in IT already. IT is just IT. ITC, to me, was the TV company which produced shows like Space: 1999 and The Muppet Show.
I dislike the idea of some IT workers puffing up their own importance in order to denigrate others. A self taught person with lots of experience is often more useful than someone who has paid through the nose for an expensive fancy pants IT qualification.
Question: i need a network of people to start a business? i dont have anyone useful. i need manufacturing engineers to make assembly lines, architects, a maintenance crew, etc, but i dont know where to get them!!! where can i find such people?
Answer: It seems that you're the antidote for the recession -- you're planning to hire lots of people!
The easier way would be to hire an employment agency to help you find the employees you need
Or advertise in the newspapers. The economy is so bad right now with many good workers laid off that it won't be as hard to find good employees
Question: which area of IT is best to work for and develop a career in which also pays a good salary? is network architect a good field of IT to develop a career in
Answer: The IT field is very diverse with many areas now combining with critical business functions, creating even more diversity. You can progress well in any area of IT, as long as you have the skill and desire.
Top IT job roles over the next 10 years:
- Business Analysts
- Software Developers/Programmers
- Mobile Application Developers
- Database Architect/Administrators
- IT/Software Management
IT roles that are slowly being reduced/outsourced:
- General IT Support
- Systems Administrators
- Helpdesk Support
Question: Moving to Vancouver, need help with Internet, cable TV, Cell, and etc.? I am moving to Vancouver soon. And I have a few necessities that I haven't taken care of yet. I work as a Network Architect, so need high speed internet, and other things. Anyways, 3 questions, and if you can, please give me the best details you can.
1. High Speed Internet, I am after a service that is aimed at more of a power user, something with extremely high speeds and possibly a static IP. I currently have a 12 meg cable modem. Who provides the fastest speeds and what are the actual speeds, also, who has the best reliabilty? Does anyone offer Fiber to the home, here we can get 30 meg. Price cut-off at $200/month.
2. Cable TV or Satelite, doesn't matter. I want something that is HD compatable and offers a DVR system, looking for the most channels, best quality and definitely Video-on-Demand. Price doesn't matter.
3. Cell, I use a Blackberry Pearl form T-mobile, phone is unlocked, who has the best service and plans that offers unlimited blackberry service an texting?
Please be as specific as possible, not after answers like just use shaw.. I'd like to see some numbers, some places advertise internet at say 10 meg, but only delivers at about 3, so after experiences also.
Answer: you could call rogers and see if they meet your needs they have great package deals
