Question: What are the best languages for games, Wep applications and design/interface? What are the best program languages for someone who wants to build games (mostly RPG), Wep applications and design/interface (OOP?) for games and websites?
And please tell me in which order should I learn them.
Answer: ew, asm? Bleh, no thanks.
Web crap Java is fantastic, if a bit slow.
Games C++ is the way to go.
(Ha that's like a poem).
Question: Among the websites you have seen, which one you would like to award having the Best User Interface Design? Among the websites you have seen, which one you would like to award having the Best User Interface Design?
Cite top 10-15 features of that site that you choose. And explain why is it the best when it comes to design, performance, etc.
Answer: G'day C# Newbie,
Thank you for your question.
Yahoo! Answers. It works pretty well for me and for many users.
Regards
Question: What is the most useful programming language for someone interested in user interface design?
Answer: It depends if you want to do web design or thick client (i.e. desktop) design.
If you're doing desktop design then I'd probably say either C# or VB.NET. They are going to be much more robust than the old Visual Basic and have some pretty nice controls. This assumes you are targeting Windows.
If you need to target both a Mac and Windows and even possibly Linux then I would definitely say Java. The NetBeans platform has a great GUI builder called Matisse that you should check out.
If you're doing Web UI design then I would look into Laszlo or Flash if you want more pizazz otherwise you're going to spend some time doing Javascript with HTML/CSS.
Question: what are the main differences between Forms and Menus as used in Interface design? i'm researching on a project on computer interface design.
Answer: Form is generally denoted as a way of collection data. So in your webpage or in an application the area where you enter some data is called form.
Think of it like this ...if you go to a driver's license office and they give an application to fill (application form) , you are filling in the details. The area where you fill in the details is called Form.
Menu's are more for navigation. You click on a menu and it will most probaby either show more information or take you to a context specific page.
A good interface design is supposed to make the navigation intuituve and form entry painless, intelligent and intuitive.
Question: What do you think of the design of Ebay? Good and Bad Things about the design interface.? Do you like the colour scheme, layout, navigation?
Can it be improved in any way?
Do you like the logo and branding?
someantha, congratulations about your harping, but its not what i asked. take your opinion to some ebay board.
For everyone else, I am asking from a purely design perspective. So graphic, web designers, artists or whatever chime in. Otherwise go somewhere else.
Answer: First of all, I have been an ebay user for 5+ years. I am so used to its interface now, honestly, any big layout changes will make me mad. For a frequent user, the fancy or modern UI doesn't matter. New functionality however is different and will be appreciated. For example, I wish they have a way to sort or filter on the shipping cost, or make their system more reliable without regular maintenance breakdown every once a while.
The mutl-color eBay is one of most recognizable icons on the internet, live and fun.

Question: How can I begin to design a User Interface? Is there a specific program? What programming language? I really want to get into this, where can I start? Is there a begineers program in any of this? Or a specific markup/programming language I need to grasp? Many thanks.

Question: what features and/or interface design of the www.bestbuy.com website are poorly designed? rate the features and interface design. :)
Answer: I would say the prices are the most poorly designed aspect. They should design their prices more like Amazon.com or something.
Question: Care to comment about FACEBOOK's interface design? I'm doing sort of a survey on Facebook as an interface. Could you guys comment (especially positive feedback) about its design, color selection, type used, layout , user-friendliness level, etc. etc.?
THANKS in advance =)
Answer: okay, so yeah, facebook is pretty user friendly. it's a lot easier to use than others such as myspace and it is also more private, though myspace is cool cuz u can personalize it. color selection is fine. i don't have any problem with it. the layout and design is what bothers me though. i started using facebook about a year ago and i loved it cuz it was really simple, but the layout/design was recently changed. not recently, but like a few months ago and it's a bit weird now. it's a little more confusing and not as fun as it was before. i liked it better before, but facebook is still my favorite way to communicate with family and friends. if i was aked to, i would definitely recommend it to anybody. hope i helped =)
Question: Where to learn interface design? I currently program in ASP.NET. I run a number of websites, including gamesecretary.com. I am currently working on a 2.0 revamp. I've never been artistically skilled, but along with launching AJAX features I want to include a slick layout. How can I learn about the basics of artisty and interface design?
Answer: Here are a few books I'd recommend:
1) Joel Spolsky, UI Design for Programmers
2) Alan Cooper, The Inmates Are Running the Asylum
3) Alan Cooper, About Face 2.0: The Essentials of Interaction Design
4) Donald Normal, The Design of Everyday Things
Question: How to design a system to interface one RAM and one ROM with 8086 microprocessor? (:
I want to do it on paper theoretically with the help of schematics. like how to draw 8086 microprocessor with one ram and rom on paper?
Answer: This is not a trivial question. Starting from scratch you need to design and manufacture a baseboard circuit, write a little operating system and burn it into a resident ROM before you even start your own project. I suggest you start with a commercial trainer kit, as at
http://www.alibaba.com/product-tp/202390959/8086_Microprocessor_Trainer_Kit_Model.html
and you can get on with your project from there.
Question: Software to design a user interface? I want to design just the interface of an enhanced word processor. I want to put in the menus, the dialog boxes etc....what program will help me do that?
Answer: Try Microsoft Visio - it has specialized templates for GUI design.
Question: what is difference between web design and user interface design ?
Answer: Web design is part of user interface design.
Web design refers specifically to the interface of web pages, website and web-base applications.
User interfaces include any kind of interface between the application and the user, no just web based ones.
Question: Best Interface Design Schools? Hello
Right now im taking graphic design courses at a community college.
But my im looking into "interface design".
I'm interrested in the design side of interfaces. Although programming may be a big part of interfaces, im interrested specifically in the design of their "visual look".
I'm located in California in the Bay Area, very close to San Francisco.
Questions:
[1]
Do you know of any schools that specifically offer interface design programs/degrees?
[2]
Do people looking to specialize in interface design initially go for a more general degree like graphic design?
[3]
The Academy of Art in san franciso offers a program like this, is it any good?
[4]
The Art Center College of Design is a place im interrested in but i'm not sure how much focus they give specifically to interface design.
[5]
I'm also interrested in information design. Is information design the underlying degree for interface design or is it different?
Thankyou, all info is appreciated.
Answer: like u said, the Academy of Art in SF is great.
another one is the Cleveland Institute of Art
everyone's doing advanced stuff & going digital
Question: Is user involvement in user interface design necessary ?
Answer: If they are available and it is meaningful to do so you should use them and at the following points minimum.
Initially during requirement gathering, talking with the user to understand their problem, what is it they want to accomplish. You probably don't want their input on what the interface would look like yet because they may limit you to much. Understanding their problem, and how they work really helps to guide the design.
You want to then use them when initial prototypes or mockups are available. They can review the design with you and give input. This helps point out any incorrect assumptions you may have made.
The other side benefit is once the user sees the interface it may draw out more requirements that didn't come out original. Often I find that once the user sees the mockup they think of new things they need, or something they forgot to mention.
Now, is it necessary? Certainly if you are producing something for a specific user group it really helps. If you are designing something brand new then you may not be able to find "users" to actually participate. It may be an area where people haven't considered before.
In that case it would be useful to collect input from various focus groups stating the problem you are solving and identifying the solution.
