Question: How long does it take to become an ASP.NET Developer? I was told that it takes years to become a good C# programmer. But if I want to become an ASP>NET developer how much time should I expect to learn the technology until I can get ready and apply for an entry level position? I know that asp.net use C# but not intensively like a C# programmer.
If I study 3 H per day for 6 months. Can I be ready?
Answer: It depends on several things like how fast you can get used to the syntax, how fast you can learn datatypes, how fast you can loop, and functions. The biggest grand daddy of them all is understanding Object-Oriented Programming. If you can get a thorough understanding of OOP it's only gonna be a matter of time before you start getting really good. This is where I think a lot of people say the experience kicks, but after you've understood OOP entirely, you can learn everything else easily.
Question: how to start learn php for asp.net developer? iam a professional asp.net developer , looking forward to learn php. plz send me the suggestion from where to start , wha are the good books and websites,
Answer: The best "book" on PHP is the official documentation:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/
.
Question: How much can I make as Asp.Net Developer? After 8 months of hard study, After building a small portfolio , how much can I expect for my first entry level position as asp.net developer? And what can I expect the following years after getting some more experience? Thank you for your time.
Answer: depends on your region - but in the U.S. you can expect to make between $35,000 and $55,000 per year. Depends alot on your experience level with a wide variety of technologies.
Question: What additional language should an ASP.NET developer learn? I've been developing with ASP.NET for about 5 years (VB.NET, C#, SQL Server, JavaScript, XML/XSLT, etc). I want to pick up another, different language/technology. What should I learn?
Java, RoR, X++, PHP, C++, COBOL, Python, something else?
Answer: Rather than focus on web development solely, try learning WinForms/WPF. You already know VB.NET and C#, so you're halfway there.
Question: How long before I get a job as ASP.NET/C# Developer? I am starting to study C# then will study asp.net. I want to be ready in 8 months to apply for an asp.net developer position. I am a newbee. How many hours do you guys think I should study to be ready in 8 months from now??
Thanks
Answer: Why dont you go onto www.rentacoder.com and bid on small projects. That way you can learn as you go and get paid for it!
Question: ASP Web Developer Salary Question? Does anyone know how much an 5 yr experience ASP Developer with skills like SQL Server, HTML, Graphics, ASP.net should be paid? I live in michigan

Question: At 55 Am I too old to become an asp.net developer? Got fired from my previous job at walmart & was wondering if I could start a web developer career. I know nothing about programming or web development. Now I was told to learn asp.net. How long will it take me to get my first job? The learning curve? How many months should I expect to lrearn asp.net until I get good at it to offer my services as consultant on dice.com. Any books or material that I should buy? Plz if you feel that 55 is too old let me know , I have no desir to invest my time in asp.net if the market is closed for me because of my age.
Answer: I don't know about web developer, sorry. But where i'm studying there are students of all ages!! even older people that have never worked before neither know computers!
I know two ladies that are studynig with me and they are from 40 to 50 years more or less and so far they are doing great! You can study in any college/university or on the internet no matter how old you are as long as you can learn what they're teaching you.
I read on yahoo once that a 80-95 year old lady (don't know her name/age) has been studying in a university for a long time because she liked to study and she just finish graduating a few months ago!...or at least that's how I can remember XD
If you think you can do it then do it! At least give it a try! ^_^
I wish you the best of luck and don't get nervous! You're not the only one! = D
Good Luck!
Question: Is certification (HTML & ASP Developer) from W3 Schools online legit in the web developing world? The w3schoolsonline.com is a free course in all the computer languages that you study and do at your own pace. When ready , you pay for the exam and receive a certificate (if you pass). They offer the HTML Developer Cert. and the ASP Developer Cert. I am currently starting it, but if the certificates do not mean anything, then I do not want to waste my time. Although I am learning as I go, so it really isn't that much of a waste of time.
Thanks for the answers, very helpful. I've been reading lots of books too, as well, as the most accomplished web designers I know were self taught. That's my goal, and I already know HTML (which is of little use), but working my way up. Btw work and bills, not much time or money for college courses, but to know that I could do something by being self taught (lots of motivation and pick up easily) is very encouraging. Especially in such a dynamic field.
Answer: Certification in webdesign, have got little to no value. Also note, HTML is so easy, that certification hardly will be needed.
Generally webdesigners are capable of a lot more then just writing HTML, many RSS, XML, AJAX, PHP, MySQL, ASP, C++. Not to mention basic skills in Typography and Photoshop, creating borders, buttons and other graphic elements.
Simply knowing HTML won't get you far, an absolute minimum is (X)'HTML + CSS, and even then its near impossible to get anyware, unless you are an expert in the area.
I'm rock solid at this point, being certificated is not needed, and of little value in practice.
Question: How much an asp.net developer earns? How much can I make as Asp.Net Developer?
After 8 months of hard study, After building a small portfolio , how much can I expect for my first entry level position as asp.net developer? And what can I expect the following years after getting some more experience? Thank you for your time.
Answer: Your salary and position will depend more on your skills and talent than on experience. A truly talented developer will be paid more and accomplish more with 6 months experience than someone who doesn't "get it" but has been doing it for 10 years.
An entry-level developer will usually make between USD 35 and 55k per year, a little more if you're in California or NYC. On the other end, a senior-level .NET architect can easily make 120-150k+
(Also, don't listen to the fellow who says you have to have a degree. A degree is a great thing, but if you don't have one for whatever reason, it's OK. I am a senior .NET platform architect and I do not have a degree.)
Question: What is a really good book to learn ASP.Net? I am an ASP Classic Web Developer who needs to learn asp.net? I am an experienced web developer who needs to make the move from ASP to ASP.Net. I'm looking for a book which I can read through which will help me get started. Also what version should I start with? 2.0, 3.5 What language? C# or VB.net? Which Visual Studio? 2005 or 2008?
Answer: It would be best to start with ASP.NET 2.0 with VS 2005 right now.
C# is more common, hence its better to learn C#. However if you used to develop using VBScript, you might find the syntax of VB.NET easier to follow.
For good books you can choose from the following list:
- Wrox professional ASP.NET 2.0
- Apress - Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 in C# 2005 From Novice to Professional
- Apress - Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 Databases From Novice to Professional
- Programming Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 Core Reference [MS-Press 2006]
Hope this helps
