Question: what if an upholsterer gives you advise about your leather suite, and it turns out to be traumatic and wrong? I called a local upholsterer about my leather suite, as it needed restoring. I was told before I began spending money, to experiment myself with 'shoe polish', which has had a very traumatic effect on the leather. A restorer came to restore it, and spent nearly 5 hours working on it, however the wax from the shoe polish has been absorbed too far into the leather, that all the new colour that the restorer put on is begining to peel off. Now he is going to haave to come again and carry out some tests on the leather, and maybe even steam clean it to melt the wax off that has come from the shoe polish, what can I do?

Answer: This was really bad advice and I am sure there should be some come back for you. If you want some good advice on your legal position and you are in the UK telephone the Association of Master Upholsterers on 01633 215454 and they will be able to help. Always take advcie on leather from a leather specialist. LTT are consultants to the furniture and cleaning industries and have a wealth of information about leather and its care at their fingertips. Make sure whoever it is that you are dealing with at the moment is qualified to deal with such a problem otherwise matters could be made much worse and you may not have any recall on the original upholsterer. Qualified technicians should have training certificates from recognised bodies for their training. Hope this helps Judy

Question: know a good sofa upholsterer in london? i've been given a sofa but the fabric isn't quite my taste. can anyone recommend a good quality, value for money upholsterer, preferably in north london? only answers from people who have used an upholsterer please, no daft answers just to get points for answering a question :-)) i'm not exactly flush with cash... maybe you know of a college with textile courses where i can take my sofa for students to practice on...so helping them and saving me cash. thanks very much in advance!

Question: Does anyone know and can recommend a great upholsterer? I live in Beaverton, Oregon and just bought a couch from 1958 and would like to have it recovered. It has piping and buttons and great lines. Any suggestions?

Question: Anyone know how much an upholsterer would charge to stitch a new plastic rear window into a convertible top? I accidentally tore mine right down the middle. The price on a new roof is gonna be over $3000. I know it would be a lot less, but anyone have an idea of what stitching a new window in would cost?

Answer: i own a repair shop,and my wife owns a sewing shop for cars,,this can be done it has to be done with a walking foot machine that's the only one that will sew it,good but you have to remove the top on some of them to repair the window,,the ones she has done have run around 400 bucks to repair,,but that's still cheaper than a new top is,and it will hold up good,,but you might have a hard time finding someone to do this for you ,,most shops like to replace the top,,for more money..but if you can get someone to do it,,that's a good price for it,,good luck with it,i hoe this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

Question: Does anyone know where I can find an inexpensive wing chair upholsterer in Salem, Oregon? I am looking to find someone who will re-upholster my wing back chair that will not cost me big bucks. I live in Salem, Oregon. I got the chair for $5 and I have a sheet over it and would like to have it redone, it needs it bad. It is a good chair.
