Question: Has anyone know/had a good dressmaker make them a wedding dress in the chicagoland area? I am looking for a good dressmaker in the south suburbs of Chicago. There are alot out there and I want to know if anyone had any good experiences or know of a really good dressmaker?

Answer: I just had my dress alter by this dress maker in Palatine, IL. She does AWESOME WORK, but is a little absent minded when it comes to her book keeping skills. BUT THE DRESSES ARE BEAUTIFUL! Question: A good dressmaker in sydney that does everday clothes? I'm looking for a good dressmaker in sydney that is cheap and makes everyday clothes from patterns ect.

Answer: Redfern, Alexandria, Surry Hills is a good place to start. If you want a good dressmaker at reasonable rates, there's a really good tailor/dressmaker in Hornsby opposite the Red Shield shop in Hornsby Mall.

Question: Does anyone know of a good ONLINE dressmaker in Australia? I found a dress I like on the House of Brides website but I dont want to order from overseas. Im loking for a dressmaker online that can basically copy the dress exactly in my size. Any suggestions? Australia only.

Answer: You'd probably be much safer visiting a dressmaker in person. You can be sure they are legitimate and make sure all the details of what you want are clear, and you'll need to make sure you get along reasonably well, because you'll probably be talking to them alot. This is especially important if it's your wedding dress! Online shopping is risky enough as it is so take all precautions neccessary!

Answer: I can't tell you how much but I will tell you my experience in selling these types of items. First how attached are you to the item? Are you trying to value it for insurance or sale? If you are not very attached to it, you probably will only get between $25-50 if you can find a buyer and it is working. If you can hold on to it until you find the right buyer then keep hunting for a price. Check for any museums that specialize in sewing or dressmaking.

Question: Dressmaker 206 sewing machine~ How old is it and how do you thread it? I was given a dressmaker 206 sewing machine and I can't find anything on it. I found a dressmaker 205 which looks the same. I am wondering how old it is and how to thread it. I know that you can order the manual but I was hoping to find out about it for free. :)

Answer: Sorry I looked for sometime and was only able to come up with a manual for you to buy. So if you decide to buy it, here's the link. Question: Im going to a dressmaker tomorrow but I have no fabric. Help? I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow to go see a dressmaker but I realized I have no fabric. Will they have fabric for me to pick out or will I have to buy my own?

Question: As a beginning dressmaker, what is a good starter sewing machine? Soon I will be taking classes at Community College in fashion design, etc. I would like to practice at home so I want to get a quality machine. There are so many out there I dont know where to start. Should I get a basic cheap simple one with no features or the expensive kind with a 1000 stitch patterns. What are the qualities you look for and are important? I would like to be able to use it for a bit.

Answer: I'm in interior design and started with a Brother, too. I didn't get the basic model, but their mid-line machine. I've since upgraded, but have to say the Brother wasn't near as complicated to learn on, handled large projects like draperies, bedding and even some small upholstery jobs with ease. I had about 10 different stitches, but to me I wanted one capeable of handling thick upholstery fabrics without jamming, one that was easy to thread and easy to change the stitches. It also had to be easily portable because I often used it on site and drove a sports car with little storage. I also liked the machine because the warranty covered yearly maintenace for the first 5 years, too.
