Question: how much money does a biological scientist make in a month?
Answer: Depends on the region you live in, California pays the best salaries in that field, go to monster jobs and do a salary request for your area.
Question: What type of activity is forensic scientist, chemical and biological technician? Like is it manufacture, retail or design, I really need help on this, thanks.
Answer: A forensic scientist provides the evidence of crime to police based on analysis of the scene and samples gathered.
Chemical and Biological technicians work in labs. Don't necessary work in design or retail, but as part of the manufacturing process, they check the quality of mixes in large scale manufacturing processes such as oil production, plastics, steel works.
Question: What exactly are Biological Scientists and how do you become one? I kinda know what Biological Scientists do. They like study animals and other wildlife and plants. But I heard that you can emphasize in one area like zoology or marine biology or wildlife biology. How do you go about that? Then also you get a degree in biology in college but then how do you become a biological scientists? Do you have to go get your PHD or how does that work? also if there is anyone in Wisconsin answering what are the best collages with biology?
Answer: You can certainly emphasize in one particular area of biology....UW-Madison has a ton of biology majors (www.wisc.edu). I would suggest first getting a general idea of what kind of biology you want to study and then look at what colleges have programs in that area. The University of Wisconsin system has different campuses with different strengths. For example, UW-Madison has everything from botany to zoology (biochemisty, molecular biology, bacteriology, immunology medical microbiology, ecology......) and has faculty that are actively performing research. UW-Stevens point is well-known for their natural resources program. UW-Oshkosh is known for nursing.
It also depends on what kind of attention you want in college. The UW schools, especially the larger ones can be impersonal with HUGE classes for general biology. The smaller schools, Lawrence University in Appleton comes to mind, can also have strong biology programs.
One can be a biological scientist with just a bachelors, but the pay and career opportunities are limited. Research technicians with bachelors start below $30K in academia, probably a bit more in private industry. Continuing on for a masters would increase your earning potential (for only a couple more years of work). A PhD would allow you to persue your own research at an academic institution or in private industry.
If you are seriously intersted in this type of career, I would take a look at UW schools' web sites and at some of the liberal arts colleges. Just explore the biology department site. Ask yourself if any of the programs or areas of research interest you. Don't be afraid to send a professor an e-mail if you are seriously interested in their work and would consider attending their university. If you have a faculty member rooting for you, it would help tremendously in the admissions office and may help with grants and scholarships.
Question: How come ALL great biological scientists accept Evolution? I tried to find one great biological scientist who refuse Evolution, but i couldn't find any!... not even one! why is that ?
And how come they laugh historically when someone brings up the creation story of the Abrahamic religions? (the whole Adam and Eve thing)
And they all say that its not "just a theory" they say its a fact, just like gravitation
@ Moonlight, Do you understand that Evolution means that we shared common ancestors with apes ?
Answer: Because evolution is a fact.
Question: What should I do to become a Forensic Scientist? So im intersted in becoming a forensic scientists (biological), but I'm not sure what path i should take. Should I major in Biology and get a BS first? If I do major in Bio first, should I minor in Law and Justice? I've done my research, i just NEED someone elses opinion.
Answer: Forensic sciences are best if you take a science UG such as biochemistry, and a graduate program in forensic sciences. That way you are more employable, as there are more graduates than jobs right now. Don't forget physics, applied math and other related coursework. You don't need criminal justice--you'll get what you need in the MS program.
Question: what is kind of scientist studies the chemical, physical, and biological compostion of plants? HAS TO BE 4 LETTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer: A scientist who studies plants is known as a botanist. I do not know of a term that fits this description that contains only 4 letters. Hope this helps!
Question: What are the biological problems related to vcjd that scientists are trying to solve? What are the biological problems related to vcjd that scientists are trying to solve?
Answer: vCJD is "varian Creutzfeldt Jakob disease" is a human spongiform encephalopathy disease (a symptom is "spongy" holes cause in the brain, or neurodegeneration). The difference between CJD and vCJD is that vCJD is transmissible [It is considered a "TSE" --> transmissible spongiform encephalopathy; other TSEs include BSE (mad cow), scrapie ("mad cow" in sheep), etc.] So it can be transmitted to other humans through ineffective surgical techniques/sterilization. This type of disease is a prion disease, and is very difficult to destroy. The biological community is impacted heavily, with the way sterilization must take place, the way animal feed is processed, and the way carcasses are disposed of!
A law came into place in 1997 that basically said we shouldn't put processed cow meat into cow feed (duh! herbivores don't process meat anyway!!!!) Effective as of April 27th 2009, there is a new FDA law that says that cattle over 30 months old cannot be processed in pet foods without first having "risky" parts removed, such as the brain, spinal cord, eyeballs, and some other parts. This is because these tissues are affected by abnormal prion diseases like mad cow, CJD, and scrapie. What does this mean to the average person on a farm? Well, unless you remove the "risky" parts yourself, it is unlikely that the renderer, or people that normally pick them up for disposal, will have the machine to do it. They will no longer pick them up if they don't. Many people are having to learn new composting techniques, which take up a lot of space, time, and effort.
In my opinion, the cost of pet food will rise as well! Either from purchase of the neural tissue removal equipment, or because less meat is available for processing.
I got off on a tangent, but I hope this helps!
Question: Do Biological Scientists take Mcat? I'm going to college in the fall, i'm looking to see what major would be right for me. Can anyone tell me a thing or two about biological scientist. I mean do they take an exam also after graduate school.
Answer: The MCAT is the medical school admissions test, so if you want to become a doctor then, yes.
If you want to work as a research scientist, then no you won't have an exam to pass after grad school. Although, you will have to take the GRE as an entrance exam to get into grad school.
Question: are there any biological scientists who refuse Evolution theory? And please provide as much information as possible, thanks
Answer: No, none that reject the basic principle (descent with modification).
There are a few that think it's *incomplete* and you need to invoke a creator to complete it, like Michael Behe. But his arguments have been thoroughly refuted. He will tell you plain as day that evolution happens, though. Even the Intelligent Design poster boys like him are smart enough to accept evolution, they just say it isn't a complete explanation. Even so, they would make up less than 0.01% of biologists.
But then, ALL biologists think evolutionary theory is incomplete. It's just that regular biologists see that as a research opportunity, not a flaw. Every science is incomplete.
The only people who deny even the basic principles of evolution and say that no evolution never happens are ignorant of the science.
