Question: can i become a tool and die maker if i suck at maths? i like machines and stuff like that and i wanna become a tool and die maker..but i always had bad grades in maths when i was in school...but my knowladge of machines is good...but can i become a tool and die maker if im bad at maths?
Answer: The math is not complicated for that profession. You have to read plans and understand what the numbers mean. You have to work with instruments such as micrometers and know how to read them. And of course you should know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, all of which you can do with a $4 calculator.
Question: is that tool and die maker value is going down nowadays? its absolutely sheet metal work n nobady now wants to continue in shop floor as tool maker n all were skipping to tool design n now i would like to know the real status of a too maker
Answer: Briefly, your answer would depend on the company you would be working for. Some specialty shops still respect and value the skilled trades/crafts people that essentially permit their companies to competitively manufacture their products. More commonly the manufacturing companies accountants see these position as an indirect labor cost which they will slash by any means.
Currently the attitude in the USA is to out-source most manufacturing to developing countries. Add to this the wide spread use of CAD/CAM systems which more or less port the design directly to the machine tools and you can easily see how companies can eliminate the need for very many craftsmen such as tool-makers
I would suggest you consider a career in design/engineering fields as the best long term employment opportunity in the manufacturing sector. While I found this some of the most challenging and rewarding work for nearly 30 years (machinist/toolmaker, mostly jig & fixture work) I finally had to trade in my micrometers to drive a truck to make a decent living.
Question: Daily activities of Tool and Die Maker? Is there any person working as a Tool Maker? I want to know the actual duties of a tool maker. Please tell me your actual daily activities
Answer: Toolmakers craft precision tools and machines that are used to cut, shape, and form metal and other materials. They also produce jigs and fixtures (devices that hold metal while it is bored, stamped, or drilled) and gauges and other measuring devices. Die makers construct metal forms (dies) that are used to shape metal in stamping and forging operations. They also make metal molds for diecasting and for molding plastics, ceramics, and composite materials. Some tool and die makers craft prototypes of parts, and then, working with engineers and designers, determine how best to manufacture the part. In addition to developing, designing, and producing new tools and dies, these workers also may repair worn or damaged tools, dies, gauges, jigs, and fixtures.
To perform these functions, tool and die makers employ many types of machine tools and precision measuring instruments. They also must be familiar with the machining properties, such as hardness and heat tolerance, of a wide variety of common metals, alloys, plastics, ceramics, and other composite materials. As a result, tool and die makers are knowledgeable in machining operations, mathematics, and blueprint reading. In fact, tool and die makers often are considered highly specialized machinists.

Question: Job opportunities for Tool and Die makers? i'm 18 years old, I live in Ontario, Canada and plan to go to College in a couple of months taking tool and die making courses.
from my understanding, the industry is a bit slow right now because a lot of the factory work is moving to other countries such a China or Mexico so can they save money.
im concerned that after i get my diploma, i wont be able to find a job and make a living. I'm not completely sure of wut its going to be like for me after college.
Does anyone have any inputs with my situation? will i be able to find a job and make a living from it?
Answer: I am a Tooling Engineer. many of my friends are working as Tool & Die Makers in Canada. Most of them are doing good. The adavantage of studying tooling is that, you will able to adapt very quickly into most of the mechanical engineering industries, automobile etc.
Some times Tool Makers find it bit difficult to find a perfect job in Tool making industry. But we have a wide variety of opportunities in Designing( http://www.metalstampingdies.com/die-des… ), CAD/CAM ( http://www.metalstampingdies.com/cad/ ), robotics and other related industries. And you can work with manufactures doing plastic moulding, metal stamping, die casting, jigs and fixtures and measuring instruments. I will you definitely able to make a living by learning tool making.
Question: Which is more in demand (in Canada) -- Tool-makers, or CNC Machinist? I am currently taking a machinist course. I love it!
