Question: Question for handyman, metalworker, etc.? Is a ball peen hammer made from stronger or more tempered steel than a normal hammer? Otherwise I don't understand why I would need it (?)...
I'm looking on the instructions for a pin punch kit (for removing rivets, etc.), and it says, "Always strike with ball peen or drilling hammer." The only reason I can think is that a normal hammer might be damaged (?)... any insight would be appreciated.
Answer: Ball peen hammers are used by the metal working trades. They are made of tougher matl than a normal claw hammer as we are using them to drive hardened matls. A claw hammer may chip and cause injury so wear safety glasses, even with a ball peen.

Question: what kid of jobs did the olmec people have back then? i have a project to do and i need info by tomorrow cuz its a group project, and i need to know what jobs the olmec people had, like metalworkers, artisans, or etc. plz help! i cant find anything on the internet. tnx! ^_^
Answer: Farmers (they planted a lot of corn)
Craftsmen/artisan
Laborers
A by-product of large sedentary populations is that craftsmen and artisans are able to emerge. Also, a
population of laborers is available for construction and maintaining of monumental architecture. The first
construction that appears in all of the major centers is in the form of temples, palaces, ball courts, raised road
systems, and reservoirs. As the centers grow in size and importance, so does their architecture. At the center of
large Regional States, market places and administrative centers are constructed, and people throughout the
Regional area operated in an institutionalized trade system
Question: what do these terms mean? native metal.
malleable.
metallurgy.
alloy.
two nonferrous alloys used by pre-Iron Age metalworkers, and the metals that are combined to form these alloys.
ferrous, and name three ferrous alloys used by modern metalworkers.
work–harden a metal.
anneal a non-ferrous and a ferrous metal.
Answer: I'll answer in your order.
Native metal : a metal that occurs in native state, that is its pure state in nature, without forming oxides or other compounds; example - gold, silver, platinum etc.
Malleable : A metal is called malleable if it can be converted to thin sheets or wires by stretching. It does not break like a Brittle material and actually extends on applying tension. Most metals are malleable to some extent, but gold is quite famous for this property.
Metallurgy : The scientific study of metals including its extraction from ores, purification, value addition etc.
Alloy : a solid solution of two or more metals. Its physical and chemical properties are different from its constituent metals.
I know only bronze, which is an alloy of tin and copper mainly. The other metals used during pre-iron age is copper, but that is not an alloy.
Ferrous : Iron has 2 valencies, Fe2+ & Fe 3+. ferrous is that form of iron where the valency is 2. There are many ferrous alloys used today, like Cast iron, Pig Iron, Wrought Iron, Steel, Ni-iron, Anthracite iron, Elinvar, Fernico etc etc. List is quite long.
Work-hardend metal : Perhaps this means hardening of a metal by applying mechanical force or by hammering it repeatedly. I am not sure.
Your last term has already been explained by Rosie Recipe.

Question: I have a Spring Steel Bow question...? As some of you may know, I am a rather accomplished metalworker, I can machine, forge, heat-treat, what have you. I had an idea one day though about bows (my 45 lb. ash died that day...) and was wondering, if I were to take a long strip of spring steel, such as a leaf spring (commonly 5160), and gently ("gently" the key word here) cut it down to shape on a chop saw, and added a riser, etc. I wonder how good of a bow it could be. Yes I acknowledge that even though spring steel has an incredibly high elastic modulus, but is limited by it's weight, the tips would be so heavy as to slow the return of the limbs to stance, and be slower than wood. I really like the idea that it would never break in my lifetime though. What does everyone think of it? Creative/informative answers get 10pts. as per usual.
Realistically I'm building this just to see how it would work, I do indeed believe that it will vibrate like crazy when you release it. I will have to counter that somehow. Now what would be nasty would be getting a spring with several of those invisible spiderweb cracks, drawing it back, and it exploding in your face. (Not "boom", but just send razor-sharp metal shards into your face and chest, taking a finger along with it.).
Answer: I think it would be a fun project but im not sure how much you would like shooting the finished product. First off it's going to be very heavy. My Matthews DXT only weighs about 3 1/2 lbs. and after a number of shots I get tired holding it up. The other thing is the vibration. I have a bad feeling that shooting this bow is going to be like hitting a brick wall with a baseball bat. Like I said this would be a really fun project but you may not be super satisfied with the results. P.S. I have seen a crossbow made from a leaf-spring of an F-350. It has a steel cable for a string and uses sharpened lengths of re-bar for bolts. It also takes a modified come-along to cock it. Very scary piece of equipment.
Question: magic the gathering: help? ok ive been making deck's for a while now, and ive been fine at it until now. most of the time i either make a control or aggro deck for extended, but this time i decided to make an evil artifact deck for casual play. i made a deck list which took me an hour to make but it seems like its really slow, and has constinency. heres the list:
Non-lands:
4 Darksteel Colossus
4 Juggernaut
4 Metalworker
3 Colossus of Sardia
4 Defense Grid
4 Gruul War Plow
4 Otarian Juggernaut
4 Thousand-Year Elixir
4 Sundering Titan
Lands:
4 Urza's Mine
4 Urza's Tower
4 Urza's Power Plant
4 Vesuva
4 Darksteel Citadel
ok, if you know any good combos, or other ideas to incorporate with it, tell me, best answer might get 10 points
Answer: I want to add to Jason's answer. If you're gonna add Myocosynth Golem, you should have some Artifact Lands to help with Affinity. http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search…
