Question: Hi, I currently live in Miami and am thinking of relocating to Atlanta. I am a Benefits Analyst? Do you know anyone hiring? What are the safest or good areas in Atlanta to live (crime is low)? Please advise.
Thanks!
Answer: #1-why the hell do you want to leave Miami?
#2-Atl is waaay overcrowded now.
#3-Atl is a sizzling, very happening town but its no Miami with the beaches and celebs and boats and babes.
#4-visit the A several times before moving here and look at the neighborhoods. look for the newest construction and thats where you might feel the safest. the nicest areas are inside the perimeter (285) but intown/ downtown/ midtown/ buckhead living is expensive. so is dunwoody/sandysprings.
#5-Have a job lined up before moving here.
#6-LIVE CLOSE TO YOUR JOB!
Question: What does a Certified Veteran's Benefits Analyst get out of helping my mom fill out VA forms? My father was a WWII veteran and ex-POW. He died a few years ago of old age. My mother is just now applying for surviving spouse benefits because she went to a seminar put on by a "Certified Veteran's Benefits Analyst". They help people for free to apply for VA benefits...WHY? What do they get out of it? A mailing list? How do they support a business doing free help? You sign forms allowing them access to all the info you tell the VA, because they are helping you fill out the forms. I'm suspicious. IS IS SAFE to use them? thanks.
Answer: My advice to you and your mother is to "STOP".
The "Certified Veteran's Benefits Analyst". is nothing but a scam to get people to pay for a service that is offered "FREE". They have "NO CONNECTION" with Veterans Affairs.
If your dad was a member of a Veteran's Organization such as the VFW, American Legion, DAV, or others, contact them and ask to speak to a Veterans Service Officer to assist your mom.
They will assist your mother to get what benefits are due to her. If you are unable to locate one, you can find a local Veterans Service Offficer on the VA's Web site, their link is http://www.va.gov/
While your at it, report the "Certified Veteran's Benefits Analyst" Company/Organization to the Veterans Service Officer for an investigation.
Question: What are the benefits of becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) versus getting an MBA? Right now, I'm at a crossroads in my life between becoming a CFA or getting an MBA. I don't quite understand the benefits of one versus the other. Please, include any comments on:
* how long each one would take
* total cost of each alternative
* return on investment of both
* which one would make easier to get a great job
* which one would make me "more international" or would generate more options in a globalized world
* would it be better to go after another international certification such as a CPA or a CMA?
* and any other feature or area you consider relevant.
Thank you so much.
Martin.
Answer: CFA makes you a finance professional and an MBA a general management executive.
Full time MBA takes two years and part-time MBA three to five years. CFA is distance education and can consume two-three years time.
You can land in good to very good jobs after CFA. You may have to face greater and tougher competition after MBA
You can find the ROI yourself with the help of cash flows over some expected time horizon and the cost incurred for a program.
CFA seems to have a greater global image. MBA tends to become localized and also culture specific.

Question: What are the basics of CalPERS retirement benefits? I'm considering applying for a job with my City (in California), which would mean getting CalPERS retirement benefits. The starting wage is posted, and I want to know a rough estimate of what that would translate to in retirement benefits, and roughly how much I would have to contribute (if any). I looked at the website and there were no specifics. Can anyone give me a rule of thumb on calculating the benefits? I.E., 5% of salary, etc. The job is administrative (Management Analyst). Thanks!
Answer: I work for San Diego City Schools and am a part of the CalPERS retirement program. I'm not sure if the specefics are different with every job, but here are what my specs look like:
I get 7% taken out of my paycheck every month and put into my retirement account
I have an interest rate of 2%
My employer matches the 2%
Hope this helps. The CalPERS website is not incredibly helpful, and your account only gets updated once a year.
Question: How did Senator Clinton get all Analyst's votes and 45% of popular vote as winner of the debate? In the recent debates the Analysts and majority of Viewers thought Joe Bidden knew most about the issues.
'Best Response', Bidden and Dodd each got one analyst's vote, while Edwards got popular vote and the remaining analyst's vote.
'Most Surprising Performance', Edwards received one analyst's vote while Obama got the remaining two and popular vote.
'Participant whose campaign benefited most', two analysts gave specific accolades to Obama's response and he also won popular vote. One analyst said, "Clinton's camp has to be pleased".
'Most Creative campaign video' saw analysts split between Obama, Dodd and Richardson while Obama won the popular vote.
Total results relating to: knowledge, response, performance, recognition and creativity
Clinton, 1
Richardson, 1
Dodd, 2
Edwards, 3
Bidden, 5
Obama, 8
The only positive vote she got was for having pleased her camp by throwing out 'red meat' especially in regards to the 2000 campaign'. We need a candidate to address today's issues
I apologize for forgetting the link. Sorry
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/debates…
Answer: Do you have a link to this? If so, this is really stupid. How can people not see through this crap?
On the Democrat side, Mike Gravel, and Biden make the most sense, and seem the best choices to me.
EDIT: From the link, it was most definitely stupidity. Clinton's eyes dart around when talking, but look at nothing. Her lips move, but none of it is believable, and a lot of it is contradictory to her prior statements. When she gets applause, you can see in her face she craves attention and approval and her expression changes. It's subtle, but watch it.
Dodd's voice gets higher and higher/louder as he answers, Kucinich looks like an alien, but confident. Gravel makes the most sense, and has a right to be as angry as he is, with the tiny amount of response time, and softball questions. Biden won. Gravel should be pondered. The rest, not contenders. Richardson was funny at the very end, but this isn't a comedy or popularity contest, don't make promises you can't keep.
Question: Is a permanent job better or a contract job better for a female. consider benefits like maternity leave ect? hi my wife is 26. She is working as a permanent employee as a test analyst. She prefers to go contract as the pay is much better..but considering the benefits which you get in permenent jobs such as maternity leave, pension etc....what do you recommend a female to work as? she is a bit confused as the market situation and the job security is very volatile at the moment.
Answer: Contract employees have no rights whatsoever - even if you've signed a fixed-term contract, you can still be terminated at any time for no reason. In the current economic situation with people being laid off all over the place, I certainly wouldn't want to be in that position. Note that companies are OBLIGED to terminate contract employees before they lay off permanent staff.
With regards to benefits, well, some permanent employees don't get any anyway! I know I don't! Maternity leave is not a benefit; it is a legal entitlement. Pensions and so on are benefits but being permanent does not guarantee that you get them. In general, contract employees (especially in fields like engineering and IT) earn so much money that this actually outweighs the benefits that you'd get as a permanent employee.
Another thing to factor in is opportunity for progression. Usually only permanent employees are provided with training and the chance to move up. Contractors usually get stuck doing the same thing for years at a time, unless they're funding their own training.
Really, if the economy was in better shape so job security wasn't an issue, there would be enough fors and againsts to really make it a matter of personal preference. But right now, job security should be your main concern and therefore permanent is the best option.
