Question: What happened to single serving Hostess products in the grocery store? What in the world happened to single-serving Hostess products, at the grocery store? I always used to grab a pack of cupcakes, or snoballs, etc, but the grocery stores only sell Hostess goodies in full boxes now. The only places I can still find the individual serving packages are at convenience stores. Anyone know why this has happened?
Answer: Supermarkets want to get the most bucks per inch of shelf space. A bunch of single Twinkies is not worth shelf space that a box of them could be taking. Convenience stores will sell onesies because that is what their customers are craving and their high prices make it profitable.
Question: What benefits to hostess have that waitresses dont? I am a hostess but eventually i wan to be a waitress i am just getting into the swing of things as a hostess, i am just wondering what benefits do hostesses have over waitresses?
Answer: I started my ten-year restaurant business career as a hostess, and it was a great way to learn the ropes before waitressing. You make less money as a hostess, but the work is far less hard physically. You also don't have to work as late as the waitresses.
Question: What is a good hostess gift for a holiday party? My husband and I are invited to a holiday party at the home of his bosses boss. I need to know what a nice hostess gift would be. Something besides wine as everyone brings that. We have never meet these people as my husband just started working at this company recently.
Answer: You want to take something that reeks of class and personality - yours! If you make up a gift basket, that will show that you care enough to bring the very best! The selections of course will show whatever holiday - Thanksgiving or Christmas. Make your best "special recipe" that you do really well. If you are known for your Snickerdoodles, then make those. When it is homemade, it always shines. If it is shortbread or a special pumpkin bread, add a special spice that is fancy - vanilla bean in a glass container, Madagascar vanilla, I found some really nice special seasonings at Cost Plus and Costco. You could put in a special coffee if it is biscotti....and chocolates go well with everything. Eggnog mix with whole nutmegs and a grater could highlight your special cookies or oaf of bread. If you make a mean pasta sauce jar that up a bit fancy and don't forget directions cleverly printed from your computer. You could get some great pasta, antipasto items in jars, and go Italian. Choose your theme and the specialty you make, and work from there. Line the basket with a really beautiful holiday napkin or make one from holiday fabric. You could put a lid cover on lemon curd or pumpkin butter that matches the liner. Use coordinating colors to highlight the little gifts too. When you show up with such a beautiful gift, the hostess will know you appreciate being a part of the group and you were thinking special thoughts of her.
Admittedly, it would be best if you knew the people whose party you were going to better, but maybe your husband talks about things that could help a bit in this area. Mine does not, so I just think of what I would enjoy at the holidays and how little things made especially well make me feel appreciated. Good luck!
Question: How to be a good hostess at a restaurant? I just got a hostess job at a restaurant because I have less than 2 years experience as a server. I want to seem competent so that they will promote me to server status waiting tables, but I have never been a hostess before.
What are some things I can do as hostess so that I can do an exceptional job. I really want to be able to go above and beyond.
Thank you.
Answer: Keep the guest happy if they are waiting for a table
don't flood the dining room make sure you pace the seating for the kitchen so the tickets come back evenly
make sure you know your servers some can handle more than others if one server is better with a table of all women try to seat in their section
try not to promise anything to guests that you can not deliver
Know your menu and specials for the night so you can answer any questions for the guest
make sure you know the goal of the restaurant owner/manager
Question: What jobs can you go into after being an air hostess? One of my friends in an air hostess. She has been doing it for 10 years but no wants to get out of the industry. What suitable career / jobs suit someone who has only ever worked in this way? Thanks. Is there life after being an air hostess? She does not want to be stuck behind a desk.
Answer: I'd suggest being a waitress?
Question: Where can I buy a lot of Hostess Honey buns? I need to buy about 3 dozen of the Hostess Honey buns...short of stockpiling them from various stores, does anyone know where to buy them wholesale?
Answer: bakery or walmart
Question: How does Hostess snack foods compare to other brands? I really don't like Hostess products I want to know if there are other people who feel the same way. Why? I think Little Debbie's is better.
Answer: I do think that Hostess snacks are way too sugary and the chocolate waxy. Little Debbies have an awesome selection and manage to give you alot for very little money. If you would like a change, try Tastycakes. I find their product a little fresher and better tasting. Be prepared to pay a Hostess price.
Question: What's a higher position in a restuarant, an expeditor or a hostess? I'm confused because most people who start working start off as hostess but I know this person who started off as an expediter and she was the only one of the new employees that got that instead of a hostess. Can anybody answer that please?
Answer: An expeditor usually works in the office, scheduling material and equipment deliveries, and in the field, scheduling the work.
Hostess, at the door, sitting people down.
Question: How can you get restaurant managers to stop offering jobs as a hostess? Why have this kind of attitude towards someone with experience bar tending and as wait staff? Being a hostess is extremely mind numbing to some people and a complete waste of their skills which is extremely uncomfortable to some people. These are all places that do not normally have wait staff start as hostess. How can this stop in order to get the position(s) you apply for in the first place ? What might an applicant be doing wrong?
Answer: maybe that's where they need people...and some places start employees out as host/hostess since it's easier to learn and will move them to waitstaff in the future
Question: Does a hostess receive tips in a busy restaurant? I'll be starting my new position as a hostess in a busy upbeat restaurant and heard that hostesses do make tips. Is this true?? If so, how?? I was under the impression that tips went to the waitresses.
Answer: I dont know. I never tipped a hostess. It probably depends on the restaurant!
Question: What are the top 10 things a hostess should do to make guests feel relaxed and comfortable? I am working on a blog about hostessing and would like to find out what most people look for when they go somewhere for dinner. A nicely set table? No paper plates? Hostess keeping your glasses full? Appetizers before the meal? Food quality? Please tell me what the top 10 most important things are to you when you are a dinner guest.
Answer: This top 10 would be for the hostess/ host, not from the visitor perspective.
1. greet everyone with a smile and always make eye contact
2. give them periodic updates if they have to wait. you should speak with them at least once during a 45 minute wait.
3. comment on their dress (if appropriate) on the way to the table.
4. tweak their table. straighten table cloth, adjust linens, - take that extra step to make them feel exceptional.
5. before leaving them after seating ask if there is anything you can do while you fill their water glasses.
6. always take a few steps back from their table before turning your back.
7. Keep an eye on all tables at all times. Be the first on the scene of any spillage, with appropriate replacements (napkins, glasses, etc)
8. keep your stand clear; even the reservation book should not be in plain view.
9. practice pouring water with ice to make sure you don't miss a drop while refilling at their table.
10. practice perfect posture; no strutting

Question: How can you become a good hostess at a restraunt? I just got a job as a hostess in a restraunt. I was told by one of my friends who works at the same restraunt that they will not teach me how to seat people because it is "so easy". This is my first job, and I don't want to be totally clueless when I go in there. Also, I am not a very outgoing person, I am more on the shy side and have anxiety problems, and I'm afraid that when I greet people I'm going to be nervous and stumble over my words. Also, I'm taking into consideration that I'll have to greet parties with children and ask if they need high chairs and things like that. I feel like I'm a freshman in high school again and I'm just being thrown into this new environment without anybody guiding me. I might be making it out to be bigger than it is. Does anybody have any tips on how to be successful my first day?
Answer: I've been a hostess for about a year and half now, and it takes a fair amount of time but you eventually feel comfortable.
I'd say that one of the most important things to do is get to know the regulars, they're almost always very friendly and love to chit chat with you.
The most important thing to remember is that people ARE going to yell at you regardless of if its your fault or not. This would upset me so much, that I would often cry. I wish that someone had warned me about this, that its the waitresses and customers who yell and criticize. Let it roll of your shoulders, smile and say let me get the manager for you!
Groups with children are the most fun, you can let the children carry the menus or crayons - they like to help out. They quite often say the cutest things that make your day a little bit better if you pay attention.
You'll stumble over your words, but who doesn't, just remember to smile and it wont be so bad. Get to know your fellow hostesses, they can help you out a lot. They went through the same thing you're going through on your first day. If you mess up, no ones going to blame you in your first few days!
Good luck - Have fun!
