Question: I'm a distributor of food products. I deal with food and beverage managers and purchasing managers all the time. Is it appropriate to ask them if they know anybody looking for my services? If yes, how should I ask this? Is it appropriate for me to give them a little bonus or something for referring me to someone else? How would I go about this?

Answer: I'd say that you can let them know that if they are happy with you, you'd appreciate any leads or referrals. The proper way to ask, is to ask THEM what you can do for THEM to help THEIR business..it's a more professional lead in. Offer to do something for them first! Be a giver, it will come back to you. I wouldn't offer any bribes or kickbacks,the world doesn't have to work that way. Just scratch their back before you ask them to scratch yours. Have morals and integrity and you will survive. Around Christmas, it is acceptable in some companies to give gifts, but sometimes it is frowned on if perceived to be "buying somebody" It's easier to get away with around Christmas though! Question: Help me prepare for my job interview tomorrow.? I have a second interview tomorrow which I'm nervous about. The job in-tells food serving at a some-what fancy seafood restaurant which has a rather pricey menu. This means excellent tips. The first interview was conducted by a former co-worker who's now a service manager at this seafood rest. He gave me an un-bias interview so that I could have a fair chance with the other management staff. Off the record he told me that my responses to his questions wouldn't of gotten me the job because I stumbled on questions like "describe 3 great qualities others notice about you" & "describe 3 things that you can improve upon" & "describe the most important steps of service to ensure guest satisfaction." & "if a guest asks about an item that gets sent back 50% of the time, how would you respond?" & he also drilled me on my lack of bar-beverage knowledge. I'm really not that familiar with seafood either which I have no problem learning. I just need to get this job. Any suggestions? Not sure if I sounded vague or not. I just want this interview to run smooth. I'm not that witty with interviews, but my experience and performance has never been an issue. In-fact, I'm very good at what I do. It's just convincing the employer that I'm fit for the job. I do like the first answer which Is what I'm looking for. Now I'm fishing for more feedback that I can use in my interview. I know there's some really smart people here, so show me what you got. Thanks.

Answer: 3 qualities others notice: i'm punctual, i finish what i start, i'm friendly word it how you want but in that arena. three things that you can improve upon: we all can stand to better something about ourselves and i strive daily to expand my knowledge, try to do as much for myself as i do for others, i am also trying to broaden my horizons the most important steps to service: integrity first service before self, the customer is always right and excellence in all that i do i would apologize and ensure the guest that i will get the issue resolved and i would give the meal free or offer something else a free desert etc. and with the drink thing say something like though i may not know all there is for this position i believe that my eagerness and willingness to learn will enable me to be the perfect candidate for this position. also let them know that you look at challenges as opportunities to learn more. let them know that you are not just looking for a job but a career.

Question: Cheap flights? There are so many threads and questions asking "What is the cheapest flight?"... I am getting kinda sick of them! I fly often and sometimes it is expensive. People just think they wanna bring a bag, take a seat, have a meal, and be there ASAP. Well, it is more than that: The airline has personel (sp?), gate fees, fuel surcharges, baggage handelers (sp?), agents, managers, food items, beverage items, magazines, toilets, water on board, flight attendents, security, aircraft, charts, technology, computers, pilots, officers, landing fees... just think of how much they do and need to pay for. So, look at what everyone is doing behind the scenes and not always look for price but for quality of the baggage, beverage, food, and employee services. Everything costs money. From what you write, they're not asking you any personal information..If it sounds like a position/job or business you want to be associated with I would go for it and answer the questions.. Just beware if they start asking for personal confidential information (ie. your date of birth, account numbers, (social security numbers (if you have one), and any personal information that could be used against you).. If they do just write "provided upon interview" or " will be provided in person"... Hey you never know.. It maybe the job of a lifetime just be cautious about reveling personal information..
