Question: What is an appropriate tip for an airport baggage porter? This will be an international flight, with five people and ten suitcases. Does anyone know how much $ I should give the porter for tip??
Answer: The minimum you should tip is $1 per bag and if they are heavy or awkward at least $2 per bag.
Question: How to re-employ baggage porters (coolies) on a railway station? If we plan to introduce Trolleys on the Railway Station, porters would get unemployed... So any way to re-employ them within the station?
Answer: It really depends on what other skills they have. If all they know is how to be a porter, and there is no longer a need for porters, guess what, the unemployment line is filling up rapidly. They will likely need some other marketable skills to keep their employment.
Question: baggage porter using the word red???
Answer: They are referred as "red caps" being a part of their uniform. That would distinguish them as porters in passenger train stations.
Question: Poll - Do you carry your emotional baggage alone, or do you let a porter assist you?
Answer: I may be high maintenance...but I can do my own maintenance.
Question: What is a fair tip for porters/baggage handlers? The other day "Woot" asked a good question about helpers at NAIA. Her question got me to thinking what is the correct tip for baggage handlers at the airport or dockside?
If I have several large bags that take up one cart I normally tip 100 Peso at the airport. At dockside I tip more if the handler hauls my baggage a further distance or navigates narrow walkways and the like. What is a fair tip for porters/baggage handlers?
Thanks!
Please note that I would like to be somewhat generous in tipping within reason of course. Thank you for all those great answers!
Answer: 100 would still do. but it wouldn't hurt to give more if you feel that they are doing more than airport porters.
Question: Do porters have to carry a lot of baggage from their past? Or is this not the case?
Answer: Well, its suits them really, its their bag so to say. You must hand it to them, they do carry it off rather well.
Justin Case ( top porter award winner 2007) handles his workload and gets a real lift from the extra storage spaces alloted to him in the locker room.
Question: does Mrs. clinton have the political and social baggage the 100 porters could carry?
Answer: More like 200 porters, and Bill will need 600 porters, with another 100 for Monica, his ex-girlfriend.
Question: How much emotional baggage do you carry? ...are we talking a small backpack, a midsized suitcase...or do you need several porters to carry trunks for you?
Answer: I'll admit I have a bit. It's manageable, but I do check it instead of carrying it with me. That way... I'm free to move about without the constant reminder that I have to lug it around with me everywhere I go. In fact.... if I'm lucky enough to find alternatives, I can even choose to leave it running on the conveyor belt going around and around the carousel. If I don't claim the baggage. I never have to deal with it again.
Yet, so far.... I always seem to accept responsibility for what is mine. I continue to claim it and carry it to the next port of call. But in the back of my mind..... I know that soon there will come a time when I'll never have to carry anything but the shirt already on my back.
Question: What do Job look for before hiring someone in a retail store? I fill out a lot of appreciation in retail stores like but no one call me for a job interview do they look if I work in a retail store before or they mostly look for experience if I had done those kind of work before On my resume I work at First Quality Maintenance at cits field at Shea stadium (cleaner) Mets from 02/09 to 04/09 then Baggage Handler to 02/03 to 10/08 and after Citistorage (porter) from 04/02 to 11/02 I don't have the experience they want I apply I fill out appreciation for T.J. maxx, A.J. Wright, BJ Wholesale, Target, Marshall, Bedbath and beyond, Khol's I know a lot of people looking for jobs what else do they look like do.By the way am in New York
Answer: In your application you need to emphasize you are honest and trustworthy, have good numeracy, have no criminal convictions (if that is fact) and that you have a proven record of exemplary conduct, self discipline, good time keeping, working well as part of a team, working on your own initiative, never failing to report for work on time, always get on well with customers, and no absences from work due alleged sickness over past year(s).
It could be your weakness in communicating in English that is blocking your chances of getting an interview because it is particularly important for anybody working in a retail store to be able to talk to customers in their own language, which in New York means English.
Question: Delhi Airport? I was wondering if a local or a frequent traveler could answer the following regarding Domestic terminal to International terminal bus/shuttle at Delhi airport :
1. Are domestic and International Terminal are connected internally or we need to get a cab to go there.
2. What is the easiest way to find this shuttle bus?
3. I suppose they have luggage carts to pick up luggage from baggage claim. Is the luggage placed in the luggage compartment on the underside of the bus or do we have to hire a porter to place it on the roof?
4. How long is the trip and how frequently are the shuttle buses?
Answer: When you land in Delhi outside of the baggage claim ther are customs checks, go through the green lane when you get trough the customs area to your left should be a area with a sighn that says "transfor Louge" wait there and a bus will come. it is about a ten minuite ride. The terminals are not connected. You take your bags with you on the bus, but the driver will help you if they don't fit. The bus is free. the airport is not the nicest so be prepared
