Answer: Minimum wage is somewhere around $5.35 or $5.65 which is required for any job where there are no tips or gratuities involved such as is in waiting and bussing tables.

Question: what is the best way to go about getting a child and youth worker apprenticeship? I live in toronto, would like to become a child and youth worker, I need an apprenticeship because I do not have much money to put myself through school.

Answer: FYI: I solved my school tuition cost problem by working for an employer who offers 100% tuition reimbursement. Also, did you know that some student loans are forgiveable if you work in an improvished area for a designated amount of time.

Answer: Expect to be basically a babysitter and a camp counselor. I wouldn't do it if you paid me $100,000, but then again I'm not a big fan of little kiddos. Expect to meet a TON of people from everywhere all over the country. I'm sure you 'll have a blast

Answer: I'm from Ireland so I am not sure if you have a similar system where you live but I am graduating with a Psychology degree after the dreaded exams in three weeks and I decided to take a break from Psychology for a while. I got a position with a youth work organisation no bother - just emphasise your previous knowledge on abnormal behaviour and behavioural difficulties. Also if you studied group decision making, resolving social conflict or behavioural interventions! A psychology graduate is highly qualified for a paid position in youth work - trouble is finding one! good luck !!

Answer: Read up on the Every Child Matters agenda - this will most definately be very useful Child Protection/safety We use safe words, For example if you are working in pairs and one youth worker realises it is about to become a dangerous situation one worker will say to the other, "Is it time for chip shop now?" your co-worker will then be aware that you think the atmosphere/situation is becoming dangerous and you can leave without making a scene or involved i a potential safety issue. Remember working detatched you are meeting young people in their own environment, it is very differant to centre based youth work. ID - must be worn for young people to know who you are. A good idea is to bring a small ruck sack with you with a booklet of useful contacts (Drugs, housing, collage contacts ect) Moile phone, paper, pens and street activties chalk, rounders, football, cricket kit also useful tools for on street working Hope those few tips help, Good luck

Question: Games to play with children as a child and youth worker assistant? im volunteering as a child and youth workers assistant i dont get to actually counsel the children, but i kind of "babysit" them while they're getting counselled or to give the moms a break. any ideas for games that will help them deal with different things? ie) abuse, getting self esteem, anger, etc just different things i can do with them thats fun, but will still help them :)

Answer: Any games where they're having fun will boost their self esteem and in turn help other factors. 1. Make duct tape headbands by wrapping duct tape around their foreheads backwards (sticky side out). Put paper clips on the floor and whoever gets the most on their headband wins. 2. Crab soccer. Everyone has to crawl on their hands and feet (tummy to ceiling) and kick the ball into the goal. 3. Set up a path in duct tape on the ground. Blindfold one person and have the other guide them with their voices only. Have a couple teams go at the same time and the quickest one to the end wins. 4. Charades or pictionary. Seriously people of all ages have fun with that. I'll add more if I can think of any :) EDIT- ok, so for the kids who's parents abused them with duct tape ?? get double sided clear tape and have them put it on their butts and get the paperclips.. That might be even funner lol.

Answer: I think a degree program in social work is appropriate for someone to be involved as a care worker. Social work as a degree level course may take 3 - 4 years to complete. And I need to know how tax do they take for a youth intern for a summer job. I need to buy alot of things but i need to take 10% out for God and split the money in half after and put one half in the bank for savings.

Answer: You should be given a pay stub or other form indicating the taxes withheld. If they aren't doing this, inists they start or report them to the IRS. It is not optional. As for your tithe, the church I grew up in looked at it as 10% of your take-home, not gross pay, because there was no guarantee you'd ever see a refund of taxes. But if you did, then you would tithe that refund. Hope that helps.

Answer: To be a social worker you need to have a masters degree in social work and be registered, you can work in hospitals, community and non-profit orgs. Average income is 45 to 65 K a year. To be a youth worker BA in social work, Human relation, psychology or even a career degree in social service work or similar field may suffice. A youth worker usually earns less, between $11 to 16$ an hour. It involves doing a little counselling, street work, group home worker, etc... that type of stuff. Any of these jobs will pay more with the government than in non-profit organizations. I live in Canada, but I hear that in the UK it pays quite a bit more

Question: What is the difference between a counselor and a youth worker? I have some problems, who is best?

Answer: A counselor should be an advisor, and a self development tool. Usually they have many people they advise by appointment only. A youth worker should help youth develop their own skills and self esteem, helping them reach their potential, usually in a daily group setting, such as after school programs. Amazingly many young people who have had the opportunity to work with good youth workers go on to become counselors and community leaders.

I currently looking at courses within the victorian area of Australia and wondering what is required in order to get a foot in the door, within the youth social work area of employment.
