Question: Could I work as a part time nurse after I start a family? I'm really interested in becoming a neonatal nurse but one thing that is holding me back is how complicated things could get if I have a family later on down the road. I want to be a nurse really bad but i also really want a family later on in my life. Is it possible that I could get a part time job as a neonatal nurse after I have kids?
Answer: Yes, yes, and yes again! I'm a nurse and I actually work with neonates and pediatrics. I am also a stay at home Mom. Yes, that's right...I just said I'm a nurse and a stay at home Mom. Being a nurse is wonderful in that you can make your own schedule a lot of the time, depending on where you live and where you want to work. Sometimes you can just work on the weekends too, so that's good if you're married, so your spouse can stay at home with the kiddos on the weekends while you work. Some shifts you can do like a 3 on and 4 off (3 days on and 4 days off) shifts, which is nice too. Check around in your area and see what is available. Do not hold off from pursuing your dream because you're afraid you can't have a family and do it at the same time. I am very very involved and at home with my son most of the time and I also do something I love very much. Being a nurse is what I always wanted to do and being a Mom is what I always wanted too, and I'm so blessed to be able to do both. Start doing your prerequisites and then apply for nursing school. You can do it!!
Question: How much does a part time registered nurse make? I want to become a registered nurse and was originally planning on working full time. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much they make part time? I was hoping to do maybe 3 days a week at 8 or 12 hour shifts. Thanks!
Answer: This is from salary.com (http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/swzl_compresult_national_HC07000001.html)
This is based on a full time job but you can make an estimate with this.
----------------------------------
The median expected salary for a typical Staff Nurse - RN in the United States is $59,061. This basic market pricing report was prepared using our Certified Compensation Professionals' analysis of survey data collected from thousands of HR departments at employers of all sizes, industries and geographies.
Question: Is there such a thing as a part time nurse? Ok I am a guy who is wanting to go into the medical field as a male CNA or whatever I can get into so that I can help people. However I am just wondering if there is such a thing as being a part time male nurse or not...anyone have any idea?
Answer: If you get a degree to be a nurse, you can work part time. You may not be able to be on staff at a hospital or doctor's office, but you can contact a nursing agency and probably work part time for them. Agencies often take on medical staff at a part time level because nurses are supplementing their income at one employer by doing agency work on the side. And nurses are always in demand, so I doubt they would turn you away!
Question: Can I be a nurse and be a part time 3D animator as well? Im a filipino and is here on the Philippines. I know nursing is great in demand on abroad especially in the US. I graduated in computer engineering and i planned to proceed in nursing. I have interest in 3D designing and modeling and knows AutoCAD as well. I hope to learn other 3D software for animation like MAYA , so I was wondering if I can be a nurse and a part time 3D animator in the US if ever if I can go to abroad?
Answer: Absolutely, why not?
The only concern would really be how much time you would have for 3D work if you are working full time as a nurse.
Question: How long do I have to go to school part-time if I want to become a nurse ? I have come to the thought of becoming a nurse like 5 times in my lifetime i cant discard the fact that this career appeals to me just don't want to quit my job so I want to go part time the college I want to go to says i can go to a two-year prog. but will it take me twice as long ?
Answer: I myself am going to a community college for 2 years to become an RN. I am going as a full time student but asked my office recruiter how long it would take as a part time student and her answer was between 4-6 years. But with a 2 year degree as a nurse the average salary is 60k a year. Well worth it if you ask me.
Question: Is it possible to get a part time job as a register nurse and a police officer at the same time..? i want to get a part time job as a nurse n a part time job as a police officer can i do this?
Answer: It isn't against the law to pursue more than one career at a time, however, it would certainly be exhausting when both are such challenging endeavors. Each of those jobs, nursing and police work,
are highly skilled and highly demanded.
Question: What are part-time jobs that a RN nurse can do? My mom is a full-time NICU nurse for a hospital. The hospital is really slow right now and she is looking for a part-time job. I told her she could probably work at a company like Massage Envy, but it looks like they want people who are knowledgeable in deep massages. Does anyone have any other ideas of where she could get a part-time job. Please do not suggest places like wal-mart or target.
Thanks!!
Answer: Nurses can find part time work at a lot of places, a lot of nursing is on a day by day basis so they have shifts available wherever they can fill them. It may be tougher if you aren't there as much to stay up on the routine, but it is doable. She should ask her supervisor about picking up shifts on other units. If she looks somewhere else, she may want to consider per-dem over part time. If she already has insurance through the full time job and is just looking for a few extra bucks when people need her this is perfect. If its slow in other places shes the last to get hours, but if things pick back up in the NICU she could potentially just roll back the hours or fill in when they really need her instead of having to quit the less flexible part time job.
Question: is it possible for a student in medical school to work part-time as a nurse? can a student be in medical school and at the same time working part-time as a nurse?
Answer: Good luck. You need every moment to study and in what little time you have left, you'll need to sleep. If I were you I would start school with out a job and see if you can make it work after you know what your classes are like.
Question: What is considered part-time & full-time for a registered nurse? Just tryin to get an idea of what part& full timeshours or maybe even days look like for a registered nurse?
Answer: It depends on the definition as set forth by the individual facility. Some places consider you "full time" at 30 hours, or 32 hours, or 40 hours. Some do not consider you full time unless you are 40 hours, but you still get full benefits as if you were a full time employee as long as you work a minimum of 20 hours (this is how my job is).
Hours and shifts vary, but two common patterns for a hospital are either 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts. Usually day shift starts around 7am, goes til 3:30, evening shift is 3:00 to 11:30, night shift from 11:00pm to 7:00am. 12 hour shifts are almost always 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. If you do 12 hours you will only work 2-3 days per week and if weekends are required you usually only need to work every third weekend. When you work 8 hour shifts you may be required to work every-other weekend. Holidays are usually rotating, so you may have your choice of which ones you work during the year, or they may just assign them by seniority, etc. Holidays of course are paid overtime, at least time and a half, but often double or sometimes triple time.
If you work in a clinic or some other facility that has limited hours of operation, you might have a more regular, M-F, 8-4:30 kind of job. But those positions are limited in number in many areas.
If you work home care, you might be able to choose your own schedule entirely, depending on the availability of jobs and needs in your area.
Question: Registered nurse wanting a work permit for Canada. Can I get a permit for part time employment? I am an RN wanting to work in Canada, British Columbia, can I get a work permit for part time employment, or are work permits only available for full time employment? If I have a temporary license (registration) through BC now for one hospital but am moving from the area and want to work at another facility, do I have to apply and pay for another temporary license.
Answer: Normally work permits are for sponsored full time position and are issued fro the ebenfit of the employer, not the employee. Yes they are issued to you, but only to allow your Canadian employers to fill posiitons they cannot fill with Canadians.
Registration will depend on the area you are moving too.
