Question: Paediatrician???? I'm planning to be come a paediatrician when i'm older. I would most like to specialise in children with cancer, as in treating children with cancer.
Is there a name for this speciality?
Answer: You want to be a Pediatric Oncologist. An oncologist that only treats kids.
Question: How is the life of a paediatrician? I am interested in becoming a paediatrician. How stressful is a life of a paediatrician? Do they have very busy lifetyles?
Answer: Very, very stressful....you have to play half savings expert )you dont earn as well as the colleagues of other specialities), and haf veterinary (when you deal with small children, you have to be), and DOUBLE doctor, because you end up treating anxious parents more than the child him or herself.......
Question: How often should a 15mnth child see a paediatrician? How should I approach the situation? I am a 22yr old mum. My 15mnth currently sees the paediatrician every fortnight. There is nothing wrong with her except for her eczema. Her father and I are seperated and him and his mother have taken it upon themselves to make these appointments.
A fortnight is 2 weeks.
Answer: Every 2 weeks is crazy at that age.As long as she has all of her shots and is not seriously sick she should not be going that much. You should only take her to the doctor when she is sick, and for her check-ups.Just talk to her doctor.Good luck!
Question: What is the average salary for a child paediatrician in Glasgow? I am considering studying to become a children's paediatrician in Glasgow and would like to know the average salary working in a hospital?
Answer: It would depend on how specialist you want to be.
The style of your question indicates that you are not a qualified doctor yet.
GMC now recommends that doctors dont choose a speciality until they experience the specialities as a doctor. But regardless what speciality you choose if you are sucessful. You shouldnt have to worry about money again. >£50,000
Question: How long does it take to train be a Paediatrician? I'd like to be a Paediatrician when I'm older and I was wondering what courses i'd need to take at uni, and how long it'd take all together to be a Paediatrician?
Answer: 4 years of undergrad
4 years of med school
3-5 years of pediatric residency

Question: I want to become a paediatrician when I leave school but I don't have the prerequisites for the course? I have all the subjects but one.
I am in year eleven this year and I need maths methods for the course, but I do general maths because I would struggle a bit with maths methods.
However, I've heard of pathways, so is there any way I can become a paediatrician after school?
I live in Australia if that changes anything.
Thank you.
Answer: You can't work for a pediatrician and train there, as another user claims. You have to go to college for this. Talk with your school counselor and he/she can tell you what couorses to take to prepare for your future.

Question: What GCSEs and A-levels do i need to be a paediatrician? I am considering to become a paediatrician but do not know what GCSEs and A-levels I need. Can some please help?
Answer: I would also like to become a paediatrician =)
I have just finished my gcses, i did 10 subjects, but will only get 9 grades because i did double award science.
The subjects i did were english, maths, double award science (chemistry, physics and biology), english literature, french, spanish, ict & home economics
Universities do not specify which gcses should be taken so you can basically choose subjects you enjoy and are good at, thats what i did =)
..but definately choose at least biology and chemistry because you will need to do them at A level (in my school everyone had to do double award)and also consider a language, i dont know why, but they look good on a cv!
A levels are the ones that unis specify certain subjects for.. most unis reccommend that you do biology for at least your first year in 6th form and you need to do chemistry right up to the end of 6th form.
Im doing chemistry, biology, physics and either french or spanish - cant decide =\ ( but its all gonna depend on results day =|)
Most unis look for A A A at A level for medicine as it is so popular .. its hard, but it looks like it's worth it =)
Good luck =]
Question: which subjects do i need in A level in order to become a paediatrician? i rly rly want to become a paediatrician. i just finished my IGCSE O level, now i want to go to the A level but i dnt know whch subjects to chose. i have 3 options. i know that i need chemistry and biology, but what is the third subject? physics or maths? i'm confused now. after my A & As level i would like to apply to a university in UK, whch are the good and not very expensive universities there?
Answer: Maths is a good subject to study as a third option for your A Levels.
Question: What should I do if I want to become a paediatrician? I want to pursue a career as a pediatricianwhen I grow up.Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to achieve this goal? As in, what classes should I take in high school that will help me.
Answer: Let me break it down to you.
First of you need to get accepted into a good college with a great pre-medical school program.
How to get into a good College?
You need to show proof that you are truly interested in your future career by doing volunteer work and extracurricular activities related to that major. For example, since your are interested in medicine, volunteer at a hospital, Red Cross, clinic or other health related places during the summer. Established a rapport with the people there. Use that experience and what you have learned to write an excellent personal statement. You need to have a clear sense of what your career goals are in life. State that in your personal statement. Now, you will need to have four strong letters of recommendation(to prove that you did volunteer and that you are an excellent candidate for their schools). Try to get them from your supervisor from that internships as well as from teachers within the field that interest you. You need to have great GPA (4.0) and Test score. It is to your best interest to do well in all subject matter at school to show that you are a well rounded individual. Pick one exam to study for like the SAT or ACT. You will also need to take AP and honor classes in the field that you are planning to go to. You also need to take two or more subject test given by the SAT II test makers.
All it takes is just one great extra curricular activity that speak to your dedication and passion for your future career objective. Three would be great.
In college, complete the requirements to get into medical school. As an undergrad, you can major in anything. I was a biology major. College will take about 3-4 years. 3 years if you go to summer school.
The pre-med requirements that you need to complete while in college are:
Biology (I &II), Chemistry (I &II), organic chemistry (I &II), physics (I &II), Calculus (I &II). Extra classes to make your self competitive are : anatomy & physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Statistic.
You need a cumulative college GPA of 3.5+
You also need to have research experience and clinical experience. Shadow a doctor or something. My advice to you is become an EMT or an RN while you complete your pre-med requirements, this will give you plenty of clinical experience.
MCAT: you need to ACE the medical entrance exam known as the MCAT 35+ should be your goal. You take this test in you Junior Year in college. Use Kaplan or another test preparation center. Get the examkracker book it is very helpful.
Familiarize yourself with this website. They are the one who give the MCAT exam and you will need to apply for medical school through them. http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/
You will need 4 STRONG letters of recommendation.
Getting accepted into medical school is not easy. People with 4.0 GPA, 40+ on the MCAT, + great letter of recommendation + great clinical experience have a hard time getting accepted. Stay competitive at every step of the process.
After you get accepted into medical school. Do well. Pass your two licensing exams so you can get accepted into a residency program which is extremely competitive. NOT EASY AT ALL. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are looking at least 12 years of school after you get out of High school. Dont let that deter you from achieving your goal.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
