Question: How much should a staffing coordinator for a nursing department get paid? I am a staffing coordinator for a nursing and rehab center. I feel like i am under paid!!! I receive positive feedback... have the facilities staffing running smoothly!
Answer: It all depends on the cost of living in your region. If you are in San Francisco or New York City area, you should make top dollar. If you are in a low cost of living area your salary will reflect this.
Question: Activities coordinator needs help! Do u have any different ideas i cud do for my residents on valentines? ty? hi im an activities coordinator in a nursing home . St valentines day always seems to be the same i organise a singer, drink etc but feel i would like to do something different so i was wondering if you had any good ideas that i could do for my residents on this eventfull day. thank you much appreciated .
Answer: Well, I have volunteered as an activities person at a nursing home for 4 years and my grandmother is an alzheimers patient... here are some ideas I have seen residents enjoy.
A few days ahead (even up to a week) have a valentine decorating party. If you have volunteer assistants this will go more smoothly... have doilies, glitter pens (not loose glitter), markers, construction paper already cut out like hearts and cupids etc. Have everyone who wants to participate make as many as they like, and then collect them at the end of the card decorating party... Then on valentines day go around to all the residents rooms and give them a hand-made valentine. Most residents have bulletin boards in their rooms so you can decorate their bulletin board with a card made by one of their neighbors. You could also ask the nursing and aides staff to bring in valentines for the residents on their floor... you can get the little inexpensive ones that school children give out for next to nothing.
For the more mobile residents, you could have an "archery" activity... get the little bows and arrows that have suction cups on them, and have them aim at a target of a heart. You can give some sort of small prize for participating.
Also, some of the most effective affection that I've seen residents receive is from service animals... Perhaps you can schedule for some trained dogs to come in on that day and spend time with the residents. Everyone feels better after a little affection, especially on valentines day. Who wouldn't want a big sloppy dog kiss on v-day???
I hope these ideas help! I think I speak for everyone who has a loved one in an assisted care facility when I say we really do appreciate all the thought and hard work you put into the events for our loved ones!
Question: I am not a nurse, will it be hard for me to enter clinical trials field as CRA or coordinator? I am very passionate about entering the clinical Research field, but have not been able to find a job since 4 months. Is it because I am not a nurse or health care professional? Because most job requirements are BS in science or BSN and I do have BS in biology; however, I Just don't get it. Also I have completed a course in clinical trials, even then no interview so far. Should I give up and pursue something else or what else I can do? Its a cycle, everybody want one year min experience, How would I get it if nobody gives me a chance?
Answer: Actually, most CRAs are not nurses; so I would imagine you just need to work more creatively at getting a job. Can you enroll in more classes and try & get your professors to help you? Where did you get the clinical trial course? Can they help? How does your cover letter look? Can you get some glowing letters of rec? It may be too, just the economy--there may be 100 applicants for every job that comes up. Try & sniff out what some CRAs have as background that was helpful (a phlebotomy certificate?? a Med tech license?--that is 1 year after your BS...keep digging)E
Question: What related jobs can I get with a Health Unit Coordinator/ Ward Clerk/ Nursing Clerk certificate?
Answer: Other than health unit coordinator/unit clerk jobs, perhaps medical records (health information) clerk, medical secretary, medical receptionist. Just fyi that I've heard that the job of a health unit coordinator can be quite stressful dealing with all of the staff and organization of nursing unit.
If deciding on a vo-tech career, please forgo those private $$ schools and opt for the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college.
More info on health unit coordinator: http://www.nahuc.org
Question: i am a Hospital Unit Coordinator/Nursing Unit Clerk if i was in the military what rank might i be? I have worked in the Hospital for over 20yrs and As a Nursing Unit Clerk for over 11yrs
Answer: It looks like the standard program for Unit Nursing Unit Clerk is around 324 hours of classroom instruction, together with a practicum placement of 100 hours in a hospital unit.
So it took about a year or two years to complete?
With only one or two years worth of education, it might have been possible for you to have entered with the rank of E-3, maybe E-4.
Since you have been doing that job for 20 years, it would be safe to say that you could be in the rank of at least an E-7, E-8 or even E-9
Monthly Base Pay
E-7: $3,644 E-8: $4161 E-9: $4128
Monthly Housing Allowance (with dependents)
E-7: $823 E-8: $886, E-9: $960
Monthly Food Allowance:
All Enlisted Ranks: $279
So as the rank of E-7 (with dependents) your pay would be
est: $4746
You are only taxed on your Base Pay
Your Medical, Dental and Eye exams are Free.
Your Dependents, Unless they are also active duty, their Medical, Dental and Eye Coverage would be at a greatly reduced rate - prob est under $1000 per year.
Do you also have a Nursing Degree? If so, what type?
That could make a difference and you might have or still be qualified in a nursing program.
Question: I have been thinking about training to be a paramedic or nursing. What is the most stressful part of the job? I have just finished the Nursing Unit coordinator certificate and thinking about taking the EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) course to become licenced as a level 1 EMR. Love to hear from some people in the field or other medical professionals.
Answer: to me, the most stressful part is not being able to save everyone, even the life of a child... when you dont save a life, it always gets you down.. you always think that you could have done something more, even though no matter what you done, the person would not have lived...
Question: I work in a cancer clinic and need some ideas of what I can paint on a tile.....? I am not a nurse but a coordinator in an outpatient cancer clinic. Today I will have the chance to paint a tile that will be displayed with others in our lobby.
I am unsure of what I can paint. I don't know how to translate the thoughts I have into pictures.
I find so much inspiration from our cancer patients. It makes me appreciate my life so much more and to never feel sorry for myself. In the event that a patient does pass away, I think about the patient and their family for a very long time, maybe forever. These patients have a deep impact on my life when I leave work. How do you think I can put all these thoughts into a painting on a tile? I appreciate all suggestions.
By looking at the answers I am already getting you guys are very creative!
Thank you. Wonderful ideas.
Answer: A person with butterfly wings. I know it sounds girl y but it can be inspirational. Cancer can be like a cocoon and when you break free of the disease you are beautiful and you want to celebrate life! But this would also be easy to draw for someone who sounds unsure of their art skills and it will look beautiful. Good Luck.

Question: What is the best way to avoid varicose veins? I work in a nursing station as a health unit coordinator (unit clerk) and I have been noticing that my legs ache in the morning after a 12 hour shift. Any advice
Answer: horse nuts wont work sicko. best way is to excercise, trim and firm those legs. wear tight pantyhose while working to constrict skin.
Question: to determine a Functional budget to determine personnel costs per patient? which of the following would be included
physician slary, administrator, insurance coordinator, nurses, front office staff, benefits, rent, malpractice insurance, utilities, office supplies, equipment, transportation, trainint, number of patients seen annually
Answer: It would depend on the organization you are budgeting for. Arguably, the only thing a hospital provides is service, and therefore everything would boil down to the costs of the hospital divided by the hours of service provided. I guess the number of patients seen wouldn't be part of that calculation. Everything else would use a step-down method of overhead allocation and direct cost.
Question: Appropriate thank you gift for getting Christmas day off? I've only been at my job for 7months (I'm a nurse). The staffing coordinator gave me Christmas Eve and Christmas day off. The rule is the low man on the totem pole gets all the holidays and then after that you're supposed to get every other year off. What is an appropriate thank you gift that I can fit in my purse (so that nobody will see) to give to her. She deliberately gave me the day off. Another employee decided she wanted to work that day, and there are many, many other nurses that she could have given the day off to but she gave it to me. Ideas please.
PS: Keep in mind, I have six kids. three of which are under the age of 12.
Answer: Maybe you could give her a small box of chocolate, with a card explaining how much it means to you to have this time off to spend with your family.
Also, she was probably rewarding you for being such a good employee and not expecting any favors, which makes her job a lot easier. You can also show your appreciation by continuing to do a good job.
Question: How much does this job make per year? So let's say someone is a nursing professor at an avarage community college, for about the past 20-something years. They are also the "program coordinator". They are not their own boss though. About how much do they make a year? 60,000? 70,000? More? Less? Low-income? High- Income? How much!!!
Answer: When I was in college, I found that that the college budget was a matter of public record. There was a line item for each person's salary and you could find out how much the university was paying any salaried employee by going to the university's library and and asking for a copy of the budget.
When I told the librarian what I was looking for she even found the particular line item for me

Answer: You have nursing jobs, but do you have any need for a doctor who studied outside the USA?
I am a US citizen but do not have a license in the USA.
Question: I have been looking for a job. My experience is in the medical field(specialized) need career change.Any ideas I worked as an eye bank technician for the last 17 years. This is a very specialized field of retrieving corneas from donors and processing the tissue in the lab.I am a certified tech. but am not a nurse. I have made a move and am trying to get something related to my field, or would even consider a career change. I am either overqualified for many jobs or underqualified for others. I also worked as a educational coordinator for the eye bank and thought maybe those skills I could use in another field even if it wasn't the medical field. I had thought about going back to school to get some education but that is not possible right now and besides at my age of 60 I do not want to pile up student loans it is not worth it. I was just wondering if anyone out there would have any ideas or suggestions that I had not thought of. I would appreciate any help I could get. I have posted my resume on Monster.com as well as other locations with no luck.
Answer: Look into anywhere that would process anything.......as you obviously have a great deal of lab experience. I am specifically suggesting perhaps a Plasma center. You could be a sample prep person who process the plasma for sale and consumption. Also singe you have done some educational coordination you could qualify as a Training Coordinator. I functioned in this position for sometime and the opportunities are endless. Even a blood bank processing units, etc. If you are in good health you may want to get trained as a phlebotomist, many centers will train you at their expense while paying you and the benefits are great!!! Good luck!!
