Question: How does one become a mental health nurse in Ontario? I am an undergrad and thinking of applying to Nursing school next year, I am really interested in the field of mental health nursing, how can one become a licened mental health nurse in Ontario?
Answer: If you are in Ontario RPN stands for registered practical nurse and you can get a job in a mental health facility after gradauting from the RPN program. It is 2.5 years long. There is no special training required to work in mental health.
Question: what right does a mental health nurse have to have your partners address? My partner who is well stays with me at another address. His address is the one that all his posts go to and that his mental health nurse has on record. What can she do legally to get my address?
Answer: Nothing, I would have thought - she has no legal right to that information.
Question: Does a Nurse and a Mental Health Nurse do the same thing? I want to be a Mental Health Nurse, working in hospitals, but i was wondering if a mental health nurse, and a nurse was the same thing. Also do you study the same course?
Answer: You study a similar programme. The job is actually quite different.
I would definitely save yourself a lot of pain and hardship and study Mental Health. You're not expected to perform personal care tasks and your patients will be on far fewer medications. You do a lot of observation and the work is more interesting.
As a general nurse you're dumped with far too many patients, on so many medications its scary, very unwell and you're expected to juggle all day the care you give. It's impossible for everything to be done so you have to just do your best and do the things that are necessary for life.
You might take abuse as a mental health nurse, but you will as a general nurse too, but there will be back up on a psychiatric ward.
Question: What is the average salary of a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse? What would the average salary be for either a Child/Adolescent OR an Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist WITH a Master's Degree in Nursing?

Question: what highschool credits MUST you have to be a mental health nurse.? I am intrested in becomeing a mental health nurse. I need to know what classes i need to register for :) thanks.
Answer: If you are a high school student with nursing as your career goal, you need to select courses which will qualify you for admission to a technical school, hospital or college nursing program. Generally speaking that means math through second year algebra, and at least one course in chemistry and one course (two would be better) in biology.
For more specific information, meet with your counselor and develop a list of tech schools/colleges/hospital nursing programs you might wish to attend after high school. Then investigate those schools and colleges to see what courses they recommend.
At http://www.college-scholarships.com you can find tech schools and colleges listed by state, with contact information for each and links to their websites.

Question: Is there a course i need to complete to become a Mental Health Nurse? I am currently doing my GCSEs, i don't really want to do A-Levels, but i was wondering what i need to become a Mental Health Nurse
Answer: Yes you would have to do your nursing degree. This will take 3 years and during this time you will be in placement in various mental health settings. I think you have to be 18 to get into the course although i am not sure. Look at www.nhscareers.co.uk
Question: I'm nearly 16 and i want to be a Mental Health Nurse - Is there any training i can do now? I want to work for the NHS and be a mental health nurse when im older.
The thing is i really want to get some training now, as i am very mature, and want to get some experenice, to what it's like. Is there anything i could do
Answer: Bless your heart for wanting to do this work. I was a teacher but I became a mental care worker when I was 46 and I absolutely loved it. The first year that I managed a group home, I had several high school girls who volunteered. They also worked in the day program. There's always plenty of work for everyone to do. Perhaps you could do this work. Also, you could take a CPR/Red Cross First Aid class. Usually your local fire department gives this training free periodically.
Question: Questions about routes to become mental health nurse(UK)? I am planning to do a degree in Psychology.
Can i go on to a post grad study and become a mental health nurse, or do i have to do a degree in nursing instead?
Answer: You will have to do a nursing (mental health) diploma/degree
