Question: What is the difference between biomedical scientist, medical technologist and medical lab technologist? What is the difference between biomedical scientist, medical technologist and medical lab technologist?
what is the difference in the jobs of a biomedical scientist and a medical technologist? is medical technology the same as medical laboratory technology?
i am a student from malaysia who is planning to major in medical technology .. i plan to study in the us... but i am worried about my future and prospects in this field. Could someone please aid me with this... thank you!!!
Answer: I don't know for sure what a biomedical scientist is, but I suspect it is someone who holds a PhD in the field of laboratory science. A medical technologist has a bachelors degree in laboratory science. And a medical lab technologist holds an associates degree in laboratory science. You didn't ask the difference in pay between an MT and a MLT, but it's 5-10 dollars an hour, maybe more depending on the facility and the responsibility.
Question: What is the difference between medical lab technician and a medical lab technologist?? Please I really need help, what is the difference between a medical lab technician and a medical lab technologist? which one is better if there is indeed a difference between the two??
please I need help asap, please. thanks any help would truly be appreciated!! thanks
this question is to the first answer?? is the salary much of a difference or they're kinda the same, and if they are different do you happen to know the difference? thanks
Answer: A technician has a 2 yr degree and the technologist has a 4 yr. degree. In most places, their work is the same though.
In my area, starting salary for technicians is about 3 or 4 dollars less than a technologist would make.
I would say its better to get the 4 year degree, because most facilities would rather hire a 4 yr. technologist over a technician. The 4 year degree would also benefit you if you want to branch out and get into other areas like research or forensics.
Question: What's the difference between a Biochemist & a Medical Lab Technologist? I was just accepted an offer to work as Biochemist in medical lab of testing blood. Does a Biochemist need a license or certificate like a Medical Lab Technologist? Can a Biochemist work as Medical Lab Technologist in the future? What are the differences in between? I hope to get more detail information for these two positions. TQ
Answer: Generally, medical technologists are certified by national certifying bodies such as ASCP, CNA, and AMT (see links below for more info). As far as I know, biochemists would need to be certified if they are employed in a medical/clinical setting (perform patient testing). Otherwise, if reference or for research purposes, certification is usually not required.
Question: What is the difference between a Medical Lab Technologist I and II ? The Hospital District in my town has a website that lists all the wages for their workers. For Medical Laboratory Technologists (what I want to do,) they list a Med Lab 1 and Med Lab 2... The Med Lab 2 gets paid a few more dollars an hour. What is the difference? I've looked everywhere.
Answer: ring the place and ask them
Question: What exactly does a medical lab technologist do? I want to know what is their job exactly in the medical field, because I'm going for an interview for the job.
Answer: There's 2 main types of degrees for med lab techs. The lesser degree is an associates and the job title is medical laboratory technician. The more advanced degree is a bachelor's and the job title is Medical Technologist. If you have a life sciences degree they may hire you but you will probably need additional education leading to an ASCP certification to continue working in the field. There is a large shortage in the field and it's getting worse mainly because the pay is often as much as half what a nurse with an equivalent education makes. $30,000 for an associates and $45,000 for a Bachelor's seems to be the average. Some states have much more stringent requirements for education and certification (mainly Florida and California). This makes it difficult to move to those states and get a job if you were certified in another state originally. In many labs they are reorganizing the job functions more efficiently to deal with the shortage of techs. This typically involves putting most of the automated machines that do the bulk of the tests together and having one person operate all of those machines for most of the tests the hospital runs. Another tech will handle manual tests that are necessary for samples that are flagged as abnormal by the machines. A third tech may be available to assist in either area as necessary. Lab assistants (often phlebotomists with a few other skills) are used to prepare samples for tests and to store the samples after the tests are performed. The job is fairly routine and especially operating the machines could become boring after awhile. The job is often underappreciated in the hospital because the lab techs don't have direct contact with the patients. Sometimes hospitals have tight budgets and even with the demand for techs it's still possible to get laid off. I expect pay to increase in the future but not nearly to the level of almost every other medical profession. If you really don't want to work with patients and lab work appeals to you then this could be a good career for you. Around 300,000 techs total (both levels) are employed in the country right now. Another interesting fact is that most of the techs are female.
Question: what career to pick Human Resources or Medical lab technologist? hi i am not sure which route to go? i wanna study but not sure if to go into business which is human resources or science which is medical lab technologist. both careers are in demand and both pay pretty well too. so which one would u pick and why. i am very confused. i got good marks in science and business when i was in school. Help!!
Answer: This is a good question for me because I am an HR Director and my wife is a Medical Lab Technologist. It really depends on what you like to do. It's easier for my wife to find jobs and her hours are better. But she handles things like poop, pee, and blood. I work in an office all day and I get paid more. The only person above me in the corporate food chain is the CEO. My wife answers to several doctors and supervisors. I manage four people. My wife manages none. Anyway if you would like to know more about these two jobs you can email me at least_likely2@yahoo.com.
Question: What are the differences between cytotechnologist and medical lab technologist?
Answer: A cytotechnologist is a person who specializes in advanced research and diagnostics of disease processes in cells. It requires more specialized training than a medical lab technologist. A medical lab technologist mostly analyzes specimens (urine, blood, stool, sputum, etc.) that are sent to the lab to identify bacteria and viruses, or to monitor the levels of certain types of drugs that have been given to the patient.
