Question: Does anyone know of any group health insurances that cover geriatric care advisor services? I have developed an employee benefit program to address elder care in the workplace and I am trying to find the best way to get it in front of employers and group health care providers. People don't realize what a silent epidemic elder care in the workplace is. Thanks for your help.
Answer:
I have met the similiar problem before -- still a little bit annoy, here http://www.healthinsurance-onlinetips.in… is a good resource that help me out.
Question: Suggestions on geriatric pet care for my 13 year old sheppard mix? He has four vets, accupuncture, massages, hydrotherapy,… and other supplements. Pretty much the best care that he can get. I wanted to know what else could I do? He has come with me everywher since he was a puppy. He has a bike trailer,a wagon and a trailer for my riding mower. He goes to the beach twice a week, goes walking twice a day. I just wanted to know what else could be done.
Answer: wow wish I could hug you , yu sound like a fantastic owner!!!!
Have you tried glucosamine? (you probably have)
I really think you are doing as much as you can.
Good on you!!!
Question: Looking for Low Cost Vet in CHESTERFIELD VA--advice on geriatric cat care also welcome? Do you know of any veterinarians IN or NEAR Chesterfield VA who offer low-cost or reduced-cost services to qualified persons? This is NOT a spay/neuter situation--I have an older outdoor cat who needs dental work/geriatric care.
Also, any advice--the problem is that I have discovered a couple of his teeth are overgrown. This does not seem to keep him from eating but it is causing discomfort (of course!!!) I feed him both dry/crunchy food and occasional wet/canned food, and he has access to fresh catnip, twigs, grass, anything else he might like to chew on. So I don't know exactly how these teeth have gotten overgrown, and I don't know if it is possible to give him something to chew on to gradually work them down? (I rather doubt it) Otherwise I am seeking low cost care (very little money here, though I love my cats dearly), perhaps extraction of the teeth if it is the only option.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this question!
Answer: I would try calling your local Humane Society - they should keep a list of low cost vet services in the area or they might even have a vet on-site to do it.
Also, many vets will give low cost vet care - so call around and describe your situation.

Answer: Against: Most non-medical families do not understand the specifics of geriatric and end-of-life care, and need medical expertise to help them wade through the decision-making process.
For: As a physician myself, having seen geriatric end-of life issues, I can tell you my own geriatric family members are going to stay at home with me.
There are other doctors and hospitals out there that profit from prolonged hospital stays as the patient slowly dies. Slowly dying geriatric patients bring hospitals a *lot* of money, and it is criminal.
Question: middle income and alternative to geriatric care managers? middle income elderly parent in frail health can't get any social service after paying taxes for 40 years. any alternatives, family members can't give up their jobs to care for family members with chronic diseases who live for years.
Answer: I am sorry that you and your elderly parent are having problems right now. They are fortunate to have you to help! Hang in there!
Being a family caregiver is a big job! This is true whether you are a "live with your your elderly parent" caregiver or whether you are caring from "long-distance." There are many issues that seniors and caregivers who are working to maintain family income face, The first step is to find resources in your community that might help you "keep caring."
Have you checked out information and services available from the Area Agency on Aging where you live? These organizations are the first stop for information about resources that can help you and your aging parent. Staff there know how to listen to seniors and their family members and can provide guidance and advice that may be of great help to you and your parent. You can call 1-800-677-1116 toll free to find out the phone number of your local Area Agency on Aging office. When you call your Area Agency office, ask for the person who provides "Information and Assistance" or "Help for Family Caregivers." If you make this call, I am confident that you will find friendly and helpful people.
When you talk with the folks at the Area Agency on Aging, you should also ask about other services that might be available to you as a family caregiver. Of course, ask about available in-home services that may be needed for your chronically ill parent now or in the future. These services are for the seniors' benefit as well as for family caregivers like you.
Sometimes these types of in-home services are available on a "cost share" basis and the costs of services are based on the seniors' income or assets. If your parent is very low income and has significant needs that puts him or her at risk of going to a nursing facility, you should ask the Area Agency on Aging folks if the state where you live has something called a "Medicaid waiver." If your state has a Medicaid program that covers individuals with disabilities and or frail elders, there may be Medicaid funding to pay toward in-home care. State governments are coming to realize the importance of having in-home services--with the involvement and support of family caregivers--as an option in the funding of services needed by frail older Americans.
Finding a attorney who specializes in public benefit or family law might also be advisable. Your parent, you and other family members will want to figure out arrangements for "powers of attorney" and have a "living will" in place --and throughly discussed -- before an emergency arises. Your Area Agency on Aging would have information about these matters and would know how to connect you with professionals who specialize in this. Usually the Area Agency has "boiler plate" versions of these types of documents to get conversations in this sensitive area started.
If you call the Area Agency on Aging and like the help that you receive, let your county elected officials know and tell your members of Congress. Area Agencies don't have big budgets--in fact appropriations for most services funded under the Older Americans Act have not increased significantly in 25 years! You will not be charged for the information you receive, however, any financial contribution you might make for the time and assistance devoted to your situation would be very welcomed--and would go toward helping more of your older friends and neighbors and their caregivers.
I hope this helps. Thanks for a great question and for caring! Best wishes and good luck to you and your family!

Answer: Your question or challenge has provided you with the answer to your situation.
You must increase public awareness of your services. However, you have to do it without selling.
One thing you could do is verse yourself well in the area of geriatrics-common injuries, safety, nutrition, etc. Once you feel you have acquire sufficient knowledge, you can share that knowledge with your community via free informational seminars.
Also you can put together a support group for those who are caring for their elderly parents. Question: Geriatric health care? I'm playing the devils advocate and writing an 8 page paper on the negative aspects geriatric health care. So far i have a few ideas:
1) I just read an article on health care making people live longer causing alzheimers(sp)
2) People who live longer take a lot of social security
3) Contributing to overpopulation
4)Causes a burden on the family (having to pay millions of dollars to treat a grandparent for cancer even though they're only going to live 5 more years anyway)
5) The tax money used to pay for medicare/treating older folks could be used to save lives of children.
And that's all I got so far. But I was thinking about making each reason about a page long, so I need a few more reasons. Best reasons get 10 points!!! thanks!!!
Answer: Sustained emotional turmoil for families of sick patients.
Suffering caused to patient just by being kept alive.
Millions of hours of families spent travelling to see patients...making roads congested.
