Question: What is the difference between an audiologist and a speech language pathologist? I have visited the AHSA site and found the basic job descriptions, but would like to know how this translates into actual practice.
Answer: An audiologist tests and diagnoses hearing deficits.
Aspeech language pathologist works with vary clients to aid in better speech. for example
Children - stuttering, birth defects etc.
Adults - usually post injury, surgery omedical illness eg stroke, bells paulsy etc.
hope this helps.
Question: When do you stop seeing an audiologist? At what point is it not necessary to see an audiologist anymore. My daughter has progressive hearing loss and is now considered legally Deaf. She does still have very little hearing left. If she still needs to see a doctor, does anyone know of any that will not push a CI on us in the NY area.
Answer: you certainly don't HAVE to keep seeing the doctor unless her symptoms change. For example if her hearing does get worse, if she gets ringing in her ears, if the ringing changes pitch or loudness, if she experiences and dizziness. Does she wear hearing aids? She may need to go in if she has problems with her hearing aids. They need to be repaired/replaced on occasion. If you do not want the cochlear implant I would think explaining that to your doctor/audiologist would let them know you don't want it. I can see how if you go to a new doctor they would see her loss and recommend the implant cause they are extremely effective on people who have progressive loss and/or have heard sound before. But if you go back to same doctor they should understand your reasoning for now wanting it.
Question: What would make someone become an audiologist? help i want to have a career in audiology but i need a good reason what do you think?
Answer: How about you get to improve the quality of life for seniors - think about it, if you cant hear, you are missing out on a lot in terms of conversation....and in children, because if you can't hear to mimic sounds, your never going to speak correctly, and your classmates will make fun of you - and that sucks.
It all comes down to improving the quality of life, and thats a great reason.

Question: How does an audiologist check a two year olds hearing? my two year old son is going in to have his hearing checked because he is not talking much. I was wondering how they did this with a 2 year old who can't sit still.
Answer: he will sit on your lap in a little room and make sounds come from different directions and he will turn his head toward the noise if he hears it. If he has no reaction to the noise they know he cannot hear them. they will also take a good look at the eardrum which will also tell them alot.
Question: How can I become an Audiologist in Everett, Washington? I would like to go into a legitimate program and earn a degree I can use, none of that "University of Pheonix" junk that no employer wants to hire.
Answer: To become an audiologist, you must first get a bachelors degree in communications disorders. After you have done that you have to either get a 4 year doctors of audiology degree (recommended if you want to make more money) or a 2 year masters degree. You usually have to take the GRE test to go to a audiology program.
Question: What happens at a typical audiologist appointment? (i know there maybe isn't a "typical" but what MIGHT HAPPEN?)
i'm looking for a list of tests they do. or some sort of idea what will happen when i go.
i've been really struggling to hear people. and i guess i miss most of the conversations.......i went to the school nurse and i failed 4 hearing tests.
what can i expect. can you give me a WEBSITE?
thank you.
Answer: Here's a great website:

Good luck!
Question: Where can I get the best deal on a new pair of digital hearing aids and work with a good audiologist?
Answer: Howard,
I had the same question two months ago after they told me the chilling news that I had a hearing loss and needed hearing aids. Then they told me how much they were. Needless to say, I was floored.
When I got home I searched on the Internet and found a company called AidRight Hearing Aids and they saved me a lot of money and they connected me with an excellent audiologist and I am hearing better today than I have heard for years!
If you are new to hearing aids you really need to do your research because a lot of people out there will take advantage of you. Go to aidright.com and the people there will help you.
God bless!
Question: Why do audiologist test hearing with ear plugs? She stuck an ear plug in my right ear and tested my hearing with ear phones with a tone. Why? How does this determine anything because she purposely occluded my right ear...so what's the point?
Answer: That technique can be used to tell if someone is faking a hearing loss. Certain results are expected when one ear is occluded. If the expected result does not occur, you can tell the person is faking the hearing loss.
Question: Can someone give me some useful information about me being an audiologist? I've been thinking about my career recently and i've been thinking about being an audiologist, as i'm mild deaf myself, i'd like to help children and teengers know they are not alone in the situation. The things i need to know is:
1 - What degrees will i need?
2 - Do i have to go university or college? or both?
3 - Will this be okay to do? even though im mild deaf myself?

Question: What education is required to become an audiologist?
Answer: Try http://www.collegeset.com/ for help with finding info aon degree programs.
Hope this helps
Question: If you want to be an audiologist what classes do you take as an undergrad? I was thinking about being an audiologist and most websites said that an Au D would be best, but right now as a sophmore in highschool finding a graduate program doesn't really help all that much. Thanks for the help
Answer: In undergrad you typically major in Communication Science and Disorders. It is a major for speech therapy, deaf education and audiology. So I would look for a college with that degree as an option. You don't have to have a certain major to become audiologist, most graduate school programs have option to take your undergraduate audiology courses along with your grad classes, but some semesters with have 18 credit hours which is really tough and a lot of work. Also Au.D. is currently only option masters is no longer available. And it will be a total of 8 years of college and grad school.
Question: When is the best time of the week to go and see an audiologist? Weekdays or the weekends? Looking for some information on what days are better for arranging a booking or going for a check up with an audiologist.
Answer: As far as I know, in the US, it would be quite difficult to find one who works on the weekends, so weekdays would be best.
