Question: What do you think about giving tips for bank teller? I went to Washington Mutual Bank in San Gabriel, CA. It surprised me that each of teller has tips jar, and there is note about tips to teller $1 - $ 5. Do we have to give tips to them?. I feel wrong if I don't give, but I feel It's not right to give. What do you think?
Answer: A bank with a tip jar? TACKY!
At least it'll deter the robbers.
Question: What do you call a bank teller in bank words? I am an 18 year old student who wants to apply as a bank teller. The lady I talked to told me to go online and click "Careers" on their website and search for a job under "Teller" but I can't find the "Teller" option.
What's another word for it?
Thanks!
Answer: cashier
Question: What experience is required to be a bank teller? What experience is required when applying for a bank teller position? Is Cashier/ Register experience necessary? Also, what looks good on an application for this position? Thanks so much!
Answer: You need to be able to count and have good customer service skills as you will be dealing with the public.
Question: What is the average salary for a bank teller? I have an interview with Citizen's Bank for a teller position and I was just wondering what the average salary would be? I'm a college student, entering my senior year, majoring in accounting. I've worked in retail for about 5 years and have made at the most 8.25/hr. I have an internship now where I make 18/hour.
Answer: Median annual earnings of tellers in 2006 was $22,140 ($10.64 hr). The middle range is $19, 300 - $25,880 ($9.27 - $12.44) with the lowest 10% earning under $16,670 ($8.01) and the highest 10% earning $30,020 ($14.45)
So the answer would be that a bank teller makes between $8.00 - $14.45 per hour with an average closer to $10.64 per hour.
Accountants generally earn considerably more than bank tellers. Bank experience is a good starting place for future accountants.
Question: What are the best shows to wear as a teller? I got a job as a teller at a bank and am wondering what a good brand-kind-type of shoe i should get?
Answer: My bf's mom is a head teller and she always wears heels or flats. I would just wear a pair of flats (semi-dressy) on the first few days until you can check out what everyone else is wearing.
Question: What is the age requirement to be a bank teller in most banks? My sister became a bank teller at age 17. I am 16 (2 months short of 17) and was wondering if most common banks hire at 16, or is it just a waste of my time calling each bank? I don't want to feel stupid if they say "Sorry hun you need to be older." And I'm talking about branches such as PNC, COMMERCE, and VALLEY NATIONAL. So if anyone has some insight, let me know!
Answer: the banks where i live you have to be 18 or older with a diploma or GED
Question: Is being a bank teller at a drive-in a hard job to learn how to do? I am 17, and I put an application in to a bank in my town. I'm old enough to be a bank teller, and I'm going to be a senior in high school this fall. It would be a good job for me, because it would be part-time, and I really wouldn't be working much on weekend or at all on holidays, and the hours are really good. But is this job going to be difficult to learn how to do? I'm aware that you deal with savings and checking accounts, and cashing checks, but can I handle it?
Answer: You should be fine. I have worked in banks for over three years starting when I was 16. It was fairly easy the only hard thing is to remember your particular bank's policies on cashing checks, placing holds, accepting loan pmts with special instructions, etc. Also if your not good with numbers or remembering numbers it may be more difficult. All transactions are ran on a tran code system so you will wat to remember what tran code makes something a positive (Credit) or negative (Debit). Just remember to count all money in or out 3 times and that all you debits must equal your credits. You'll get it!!! Good Luck
Question: I start work as a Teller for a bank tomorrow, what should I expect? What's a day in the life of a Teller? What are the pros and cons of this job? What's the worst part of this job?
Answer: Your first few weeks will be filled with training. You have numerous policies and laws to learn, not to mention the computer system that your bank uses.
After that, you're biggest problem is going to be getting to know your customers. Older people who have banked with your bank for many years may become offensive when you ask for their I.D. You just need to explain to them that you are a new employee and that asking for I.D. is a safety issue for both of you.
Your next biggest problem is going to be to make sure that your money balances every day. Personally, I suggest counting the money at least 2 times before giving it to the customer. I then count it out for the customer as well. For me, it helps me to remember the transactions so that if I am out, I can go back through my day and see where I messed up. I pride myself in the fact that over my last 2 1/2 years as a teller, my money drawer has only been out of balance 3 times. Two of those were easily found and 1 of them was even able to be fixed and didn't have to show as an outage on the report. Granted, on busy days, it's not always possible to find where you made the mistake. If you give out too much money, it's not very likely that someone is going to return it. However, if you don't give enough, you can bet your rear end that they are going to want their money.
Good luck.
Question: What courses to I need to complete to become a bank teller? I'm looking at becoming a bank teller, although am unsure as to what course I need to complete.
I have looked at the TAFE website, although have been unable to find what I am after.
Do you even need advanced training to work in a bank? I've worked as a treasurer in the past & have plenting of skills when it comes to float & account keeping, is this enough?
Answer: You don't need to take a course to become a bank teller. Now if you want to move up in the bank, then you might need to take a banking course.
It's not hard to get a job as a teller. Every friend that I have that worked as a teller had no prior experience, and no degrees.
Question: What qualifications are needed for a teller position? I would like to know what the requirements are to become a bank teller? Skills, abilities, stuff like that.
Answer: Are you presentable, are you patient, attention to detail (because you'll be handling money and bills), High School diploma? Bank teller is a good position to have to advance to better banking positions.
Question: What is the difference between a teller and a cashier? I want to know what is the responsibility of a teller and a cashier when working in a shop or office?
Answer: A cashier works with cash transactions, a teller will work with all transactions.
A teller usually has had more experience. Its quite fuzzy, but if your job description has teller in it it worth an extra 2.50 an hour :)
Question: How is the group interview at Bank Of America for a teller position? I have a group interview in a few days at Bank of America after I applied for the teller position. Does anyone know what these are like, what to expect, or any good suggestions before going to the interview? Thanks!
Answer: I actually just went through a Bank of America group interview! There are a few things.. you turn in all the necessary paperwork that the recruiter sent you in the email invitation and make necessary corrections. Then, during the interview: of course, you do your introductions and listen to everyone else's response. Hint: Make sure you always pay attention even if it's not your turn! There might also be a portion where you have to do a sales pitch-- the recruiter will give each of you an item and you have to sell it to the whole group in 1 min. Be creative! At the end, he/she will ask the usual interview questions. Stay positive, smile, and good luck with your interview!
Question: What is the salary range of a credit union teller? What is the salary range of a credit union teller that has 4 yrs. of previous teller experience in the NY/NJ area? Is $15 per hr. unreasonable?
Answer: According to PayScale.com, $15 per hour would be a pretty high salary for a Bank Teller. On that site, the typical salary range of a Bank Teller in NY is listed as $9.94 - 11.91/hour (in NJ the salary range is slightly less). Also, in the U.S. overall, the median salary of a Bank Teller with 4 years of experience is $10.03/hour.
Of course, salaries vary depending on many factors. If you are able to get paid $15 per hour, that's great. To find more accurate salary data for your specific Teller position - taking experience, location, employer, etc. into consideration - you can take PayScale's free salary survey. http://www.payscale.com/?src=yahooA
Hope that helps,

Question: How much do you think a bank teller in New Jersey would make per hour? I'm interested in getting a job as a bank teller. Does anyone know how much this job makes? I think it's more than minimum wage but I'm not sure so I would just like a roundabout idea of how much. I know that it depends on the city and the particular bank also, but I just want an Idea. thanks.
Answer: I am a bank teller an currently make $9.50 an hour with bonuses if I reach my sells incentives. I am in the reno area.
Question: Would a bank hire me as a teller for just a summer job? I'm planning on going to college out of the city where I currently live in late august, but I want to be able to find a summer job as a teller part time. My dad says i'm wasting my time because they won't train and hire someone who is just going to leave in 3 months. Do you think a bank would hire a teller for a part time 3 month period? Also alot of the banks down here are in need for tellers, so the demand for the job is available.
Answer: I agree. Bank Tellers go through a LOT of training, not just training on bank processes, but also a lot of legal stuff as well. When I started working for a bank, it was 6 weeks of training just to begin with, as well as ongoing training over the past 4 years.
I think the only way you would get employment was if you were to work part time or casually once you go back to College, ask if they are willing to let you transfer to a branch closer to college. Otherwise the bank would lose money, the cost of the training is quite expensive.
Question: What are possible interview questions for a teller position? I'm nervous, i have an interview on this coming Tuesday for a teller position with wells fargo. I don't know what to expect other than anxiety! Can someone please provide me with a list of possible questions? Thank you.
Answer: They ask the dumbest questions. I should know, I interview people for teller jobs and the list of questions we have... The answers don't matter as much as the delivery. Answer quickly in a confident voice, making eye contact.
Tell me about your best qualities.
What would you consider your biggest weakness? (Tip on this one: never say you don't have any. Say something like "I tend to be a perfectionist." or "I can't sit still, I have to be doing something all the time."
What do you like to do in your spare time? We ask this question because we can't ask if you are married or have children, but we want to know if you have responsibilities that could interfere with your job. Keep your answers to solo activities like gardening, reading, hiking, or anything true that you like to do alone.
Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult situation. How did you handle it. This is so broad. Practice an answer.
Tell me a little about yourself. Another one of those questions where I'm trying to find out if you have kids, another job, go to school, or do anything that will keep you from working every day.
How do you deal with stress?
Do you have a problem with being coached on your behavior? Could you coach others about their behavior?
Why do you want to work for the bank?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? (Basically, are you working here until you finish your degree and get a job in your field? Here's a really good answer to this one. "I'm not looking for a job, I am looking for a career. In five years I hope to be running this place!"
And of course the usual questions about experience. Good luck. Teller is a pretty good job. Good hours, decent pay, not to labor-intensive.
