Question: What is the difference between junior and senior financial analyst? I'm a recent finance grad looking to become a financial analyst. However, all positions I see are senior financial analyst that requires experience. I have no finance work experience. Is a junior analyst more entry level and what that of task will they have you do?
Answer: Yes, you kind of answer your own question. Difference is in experience, skills and $$$. There are actually three levels: Entry, then Jr. and finally Sr.
Question: Senior Financial Analyst in Investor Relations Department? What is this position? My brother (25) recently got this position for Continental Airlines, but I have no idea what it means. Could anyone explain what he does and what his position is in enlgish?
Answer: He basically works with activities involving money and investments. He could be involved with creating reports about finances and studying financial information.
Question: Which Post is higher or have more weightage Senior Financial Analyst or Chief Accountant?
Answer: Both the positions have different role to play unless the employer is looking for "a jack of all". The work of an analyst is some-what creative and challenging where as an accountant have to record transactions within a given set of rules and practices in accounting. Height of a position between the two depends upon the size of the organization and volume and spread of the work.
Question: can someone tell me how much a financial analyst who does senior accounting level work gets paid annuall?
Answer: It depends on where you are located. Salaries are usually commensurate with the cost of living. A financial analyst in the North East gets paid about $100,00. annually.
Question: How Can I get into a Financial Engineering/Quantative Analyst career? I'm a HS senior, and I would like to know how I can get into becoming a "Quant". What should I get a bachelors in. Right now Im interested in both civil engineering or Financial engineering, I'm a great math student would like to know more about college and Quantative analyst.
I would prefer some who is in the field.
Answer: Your interest and career planning appears to be unique. Within least possible time, you can acquire the knowledge and professional qualifications, rest depends on your progress.
1. You have to complete BS with Industrial Engineering. This is the faculty , adding to your interest- Engineering, Operations Research ( Quantitative Analysis ), Statistics ( covering Six sigma and related subjects) as well as cost Accounting.
2. Then you can study further specializing in Management Accounting ( CPA + Cost Accounting ) . This is provide you Business Acumen.
Question: what will a financial analyst be after 10 years? they will start as junior, then senior, and then?? they will be promoted to what? I'm asking about corporate fin. analyst, (investment banking)
Answer: Career progression is not as linear like you think. It is a nonlinear process. Also, it varies from person to person.
If you are thinking within a corporation, call to mind the shape of a pyramid. The higher you go the lesser number of slots there are. If a company hires 10 analysts to its corporate finance team, obviously everyone cannot become the CFO. In some large firms, analysts move across functions - from Treasury, to product/project finance, to reporting, etc. Some move on to head a department or become a CFO. Others seek opportunities elsewhere outside the firm.
In the investment banking arena, analysts move on to become senior bankers where their responsibility shifts to deal making. Others prefer to stay as expert senior analysts covering a particular sector or sectors. Still others become department heads. Some may move to other pastures such as private equity.
In the asset management area some become portfolio managers. Others may leave the firm to start their own hedge funds. Still others will become partners in a private equity firm or a venture capital firm.
I think you get the picture. Many young people think about career as something they will do for the rest of their lives. But, your career can and will take many unanticipated turns as new opportunities arise.
Question: I am looking for job a few nights a week from 4:30 to 8 at latest - any suggestions? I am currently a senior financial analyst and am a VERY organized person. I am looking to earn a few extra bucks :)
Answer: Check into local hospitals and health care centers for Sodexo. They hire part-time food service workers.
I work for them at a local health care facility, 4pm-8pm a few nights a week part time. They start at $7.25 an hour, but they are a great company to work for (they care about their employees and their customers) and they do strict background checks.
With some of the people I work with, this is a second job for them. You won't be alone.
Question: Should i get my Series 7 as a college senior? I'm 21 and going into my senior year in college in New York City, i work at a broker/dealer on wall st. part time during the school year and full time during winter and summer as a financial analyst. Would it be wise to see if they'll sponsor me for my Series 7 or do firms like to see college grads without 7's and train in their own program?
Answer: Dude, if they'll sponsor it I'd get it now.
It will separate you from the pack of all the other finance and business majors graduating this year.
That kind of separation is a good thing.
Question: I am considering a career as a financial analyst. Just wondering if this would be a wise decision? I currently am pursing a B.S. in Information Systems. My goal was to become a Systems Analyst, but after taking a systems analysis class, I realized this may not be the right career for me. Also I heard that once you reach senior positions, you can easily get left behind for new grads. I have an interest in Business and was thinking about finance. I just want to know if this would be a good field to get into for the long term. Also, what would the nature of the work be?
Answer: evaluate it first
Question: Where can I apply for an entry level financial analyst job? I am a senior at a City University in New York and will graduate in May 2009 with a BBA in Finance. I was wondering what different places/resources there are where I can apply for an entry level analyst position. I am currently applying through my school's career development center where firms post jobs, but with the apparent recession right now, it's very tough to even get an interview considering the fellow student competition.
Aside from websites like CareerBuilder, HotJobs, and Monster, what other places are there where I can apply?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Answer: Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals also are becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired.
