Answer: A Senior Accounting Associate is a clerical or technician position, with responsibilities at that level. Typically you could qualify for this type of position with a couple accounting courses and some experience at the associate level. A Senior Accountant is a professional position, with responsibilities at that level. You would typically qualify with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, and several years of experience at an Accountant level. Being a CPA would help also. Associate is typically used in two ways, to denote the lowest level of proficiency within a job series (example - Associate Engineer, Journey level Engineer, Senior Engineer), or used to denote a clerical classification. If you are applying for the senior associate position, find out what you need to do to get into the Accountant series. You'll probably need to go back to school at night to get a degree, but it would be worth it. Good luck!

I started as a Staff Accountant just out of college, and after about 3 years of experience, I qualify for Senior Accountant status. Answer: Sounds like you have already proved some of the older employees wrong and it appears you are setting and accomplishing goals. Unfortunately, there are many "old school" people that feel job advancement comes with time served and not performance. Congrats on your promotion and do not let anyone try to put you on a parent age/ child age quilt trip.

Answer: Dover has several firms, which is about 2 1/2 miles away.

Answer: Well, part of that depends on what field he wants to enter. If he wants to move into an entirely different field - like from Accounting to managing a production department - he'd have a difficult time. And if, for example, he wants to go from his Senior Accountant job and get into something like Investment Management, well, it's more do-able but still tough. The amount of transferrable knowledge he has will be key to his ability to smoothly transition.

Answer: A lot of CPA's will give you a job starting as an apprentice. If you go to their office in person, dressed neatly, and have a good resume, I'd say you would have a job before the day is over. Even banks and any financial place are looking for a good accountant, Knowing you are fresh out of school, would show that you are up on all the new laws and breaks. Main thing, have a current, well planned resume and hand it to them in person. Make them think how much better their firm will be with you working there. You have to sell yourself too!

Question: Volunteer work? High School Senior Prospective Accountant/CPA? Where could I volunteer to gain some experience in the Accounting/Finance field and impress the Admission office at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign: College of Business?

Answer: To be totally honest it is hard to get any relevant volunteer work or even unpaid internship until you have at least 2 years in college under your belt. Quite honestly, in accounting you really aren't expected to know anything about accounting until your junior/senior year in college. Once you are in college and have taken a few acct classes then I would recommend volunteering at free personal income tax help workshops and applying for internships. Right now, for college admittance, I would focus on doing any kind of volunteer work, even if its not relevant to business, as that is something most colleges really like.
