Question: Does any one work as a Risk management consultant ?? can some one tell me what exactly does a risk manager or analyst does. do you like your job ? what kind of skills you need to excel ? what do you love/hate about your job. I have been offered a position as a business management consultant concentrating on risk side of things and i need some feedback from people already in this field. i am deciding to accept or decline thanks!
Answer: I was the controller of a risk management company for several years. The job requirements vary depending on the type of risk being managed.
General business management experience, legal experience, or insurance claims adjusting experience, or engineering experience and knowledge of the industry are the best qualifiers.
That type of position is usually responsible for setting company policies that reduce litigation costs and liability most often by setting defensive procedures and documentation requirements.
If I wasn't the controller of the company, a risk management position would have been my second choice.
Question: what all aspects of the job can a risk-management and a tax consultant outsource? if a risk-management and tax consultancy wants to outsource business to a KPO, what all can it outsource??
Answer: You need to ask the KPO what they can handle first. Then compare which ones can do the job.

Question: Is there such a thing as Environmental Risk Assessment? Are there environmental consultants that specialize in modeling and risk assessment when it comes to resource management and the environment? How does one get into such an industry? What undergraduate and graduate work is pertinent to a career such as this?
Answer: If you want to get into environmental consulting, you can major in one of the following: Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Chemical Engineering or others.
The best consultants I have worked with are either PGs or PEs in one of the above fields.
A Risk Assessment is where you have a known contaminated property and determine its "risk" to the environment (groundwater, drinking water aquifer, or soil).
It would entail a thorough assessment of a release to the soil and groundwater, a survey of sensitive receptors and then the preparation of a report to the state agency for review and consideration.
I have seen many consultants recommend and perform high dollar risk assessments for their clients that have had a release or spill. Most of the time (all but once), they are rejected and remediation activities have to be conducted.
On the one time I have seen it accepted: There was a bulk oil storage plant on the Mississippi River. The outcrop soil was a loess silt. Although free product was at the facility, the consultant proved that the hydrocarbons had not leached into the underlying aquifer. Because of the rising and falling of the Mississippi River, the plume was trapped on-site.
The consultant conducted a risk assessment and concluded that the was little potential for off-site impact or impact to the underlying drinking water aquifers.
The state agency agreed and the site was allowed to not have to spend $1-2 million to abate the release.
In the history of the state, it was the ONLY time a Risk Assessment was accepted (out of several hundred). We got to the point that we quit recommending them to our clients as they would only be dumping money down the drain that could be applied for remediation (unless it were blatantly obvious that it would succeed).
The only time we would forgo that rule was when we were trying to buy time for our client (a risk assessment could delay a project for up to a year) in order for them to find funds to budget for the projects or to arrange their affairs in order for them to declare bankruptcy.
Question: Need consultants in the area of IT Security and Risk Management? I need people that are business minded and want to be part of a Information security/learning company. you just have to be willing to want to be a consultant for now and nothing else and will but you on as part of our willing consultants. If you want to know more ask
Answer: What are your markets and where are you looking to operate geographically?
Question: Why are business "risk takers" in effect being featherbedded? The essential element of "capitalism" and "competition" is supposedly "risk-taking". Isn't that hypothesis a lie when in practice companies and corporations are effectively being subsidised and otherwise supported by government tax breaks, tariff controls, subsidies, and the like?
They make big money for their directors, consultants, and shareholders. So why are they often featherbedded, with the "risk" element being mitigated?
Answer: wow good question. i dont' know the answer to that, but i don't think risk taking is "the" essential element of capitalism. subsidies are not capitalistic, of course. a tax structure may be.
to me, "the" essential element of capitalism is power: who has the power... to make and market a new car, for example? in USSR it was the goverment. there was only one car. the Moskvitch. after WW2 they ripped off a german car and that became the Moskvitch2. only the gvmt had this power. anyone outside of gvmt who tried to make or sell anything was a criminal. If you were to get some needle and thread and offer to patch up people's clothing for some money, you were guilty of capitalism and a criminal. the irony of it is that things continued to get done through this after-hourse black market capitalism while the gvmt-run services kept getting worse.
The ability of any rich person to buy a plant, hire ppl, and make whatever car he thinks will sell is capitalism. There should not be subsidies for it.
What gets taxed and how is another question. Tax income... or property? tax sales? flat income tax? flat sales tax? i always wonder about parking meeters. Why? why tax parking and not driving? other things that can be taxed are space (is taxed but irregularly), water, and time.
you make a good point tho ... if there is no risk and anyone can get a bunch of loans and subsidies, do they really deserve great riches? i'm not aware of anything being subsidies besides farms, but that's probably because it is hidden from me.
subsidies are not capitalistic. they are socialist. the liberals in the USA brought in a lot of socialism into the country, tho i'm no fan of Bush iether. while the USA is still a capitalistic country, it is much less capitalist than it once was, and 100 years ago, this level of socialism would have been called socialism, not capitalism.
Question: In alt ed for over 30 yrs and now want to be a consultant nationally. How do I get started? Want to work with other alternative schools and school systems to help them improve services for at-risk populations. I founded and am the principal of an alternative school begun in 1974. I need information on how to get the word out on a national level, build a client base, etc.
Answer: Go for distance learning and on-line courses.Purchase some famous books...
Question: Sub Arachnoid Cyst- How serious is the health risk? I was diagnosed with a sub arachnoid cyst about five years ago. I initially saw a consultant neurosurgeon four times a year. This has reduced over time to twice a year.
I experience no symptoms whatsoever and was told that unless it starts to affect my vision no action will be taken.
I have read quite a lot about arachnoid cysts, some of it quite disturbing. I have a somewhat large head with a slightly prominent forehead. What are the health risks
The cyst is large, about the size of a large tomato, and I do mean large .
Answer: Large forehead and head have nothing to do with the cyst, unless you have a giantic one since before you were born and it pushed your skull out. But now, your skull's too tough to enlarge because of the cyst. If you don't have symptoms, it's probably a small one, and there's not much to be done for it except keep an eye on it. It may or may not grow bigger, slowly or fast. If it starts to affect your mental status, then the docs will know that it's a problem and will discuss options, possibly surgery.
Good luck!
Question: What would an experienced consultant ask for daily rate and per diem as a short term banking expert in Iraq? Considering the current dangerous situation in Iraq what other financial packages / risk coverage should ask the respective expert from a prospective employer?
Answer: Not less than 1000 US per day
Question: Is there risk in a safety-critical project of the project dying very quickly ? Consultants are brought on board whose concept of "assisting the project" is to destroy the project during its development.
Answer: The project is an enduring immortal legend. It is not in the essence of its existence reliant upon endorsement and verification from a mass or mob itself engineered by a handful of orchestrators to whine and crow on command against a given opponent. Weak leaderships depend upon public opinion, true old school Leaders lead and are masters of public opinion. Two diametrically opposed extreme of creeds.
Question: My baby is breech, should I have it turned by the consultant ? I am 36 weeks and next week I will be given the opportunity to have my baby turned at the hospital. I would like to know If anyone else has had this done? is is uncomfortable? What exactly do they do? and what are the risks ?
Turning or cesarian ?
Answer: Versions are dangerous, but not nearly so dangerous as a ceserean. However there are things you can do that are safe between now and then to encourage your baby to turn, and quite frankly it is malpractice for your health care provider to have not even MENTIONED the relatively common ones like lights, music, cold and breech tilts.
Also breech birth with a professional trained in breech births OR an 8 year old who knows to keep their hands to themselves is perfectly safe. The #1 rule of breech is 'Hands off the breech'. Midwifery students were often told in cases of breech if they couldn't help themselves to sit on their hands, or face the wall. Check out Emergency Childbirth by Gregory White for more info.
Placing a light low on the belly may encourage the bab to turn, as can music. Cold placed high on the belly is also supposed to make the baby turn. These three things are obviously COMPLETELY safe, and actually have been known to work. The other thing is to talk to your baby, urge them to turn.
Info on breech tilts can be found on the link below. Also headstands in a swimming pool is supposed to help and is also safe.
In addition there are three other forms of treatment which HAVE been proven to be effective. These are moxibustion (using burning herbs to stimulate accupressure points NOTE this doesn't actually burn you), accupuncture, and Webster Technique chiropractic care. The first two I think you would be hard pressed to find a rational person who thinks they can be dangerous.
Some people believe chiropractic care is dangerous, some people will even say it can break the babies bones. The first thing you need to know is that while a chiropractor may feel your belly to determine the position of the baby (the same as any doctor or midwife) all the adjustments will be to YOU and YOUR BACK, hips, etc. Yes there are risks to chiropractic care there are some studies that suggest it can slightly temporarily increase the risk of stroke in people already at high risk. However I am hard pressed to believe that placing pressure on your back while you are sitting up or side lying can somehow hurt the baby without placing any pressure on the belly.
Information on ALL of the above, and more, ways to turn a breech can be found at:

Question: Please help with this question what is a best solution for the problem? The Web site was setup by a former employee some years ago. It uses the HTTP protocol only. The consultant has warned that this is insecure when customers place orders via the Web site. The Web site accepts credit card payments and the consultant claims that there are numerous security issues that put Jiffy at legal risk. The consultant suggests upgrading the Web server to HTTPS (SSL). I wants to know if this is true and what they should do about it.
Answer: I agree completely - it is very insecure, and I personally refuse to enter ANY personal information on any website that is not SSL encrypted. The company should seriously look at implementing the SSL protocol as soon as possible.
Question: Can I trust a HSMP consultant whom I can't meet (I live in Nigeria) with my money and documents? I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria. I have met local agents here but some things they ask for don't seem to match information that is online about HSMP. So I am not willing to take the risk of trying them cos of cost et al For instance, when I was given a run down of the process, I heard nothing about document verification by UK NARIC. Something I have read to be an absolute must. I asked about it and was given a blank stare.
I need a UK based consultant but being here gives me room to be sure that they are who they say they are.
I have read extensively questions and answers on this forum and nobody seems to worry about being swindled. Why is everyone so sure? How can I be as sure?
Answer: I understand your concern and fear of being swindled. In Nigeria, which ranks 1st among the most corrupt countries in the world, scamming people out of their money seems to be the order of the day.
Other than that, I have no idea what you are talking about. But I hope you get all that taken care of.
Question: Does taking Asacol long term heighten the risk of cancer or other serious diseases? Asacol is an immune suppresssant so surely MUST heighten the risk of diseases that your immune system would normally fight off. The doc looked at me like I was a moron when I asked him and the consultant wasnt much better. Anybody have any concrete facts, it would be much appreciated??
Answer: There is no evidence of any really serious long term issues. Provided blood counts, liver and kidney function are monitored regularly to ensure there are no problems brewing, the drug is very safe. Interestingly most rheumatologists using similar drugs to control arthritis now are more concerned about the NSAID risks!
Question: Do you believe McCain put the country at risk? With his pick of Palin as VP instead of his first choice - Joe Liberman; he has upset many respected republicans. Matthew Dowd, a prominent political consultant and chief strategist for George W. Bush's reelection campaign is one of them. He says:
He put somebody unqualified on that ballot and he put the country at risk, he knows that."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/14/bush-strategist-mccain-kn_n_134570.html
Answer: He put the country at risk in about 12 different ways!
For one, the Bush/McCain/GOP war in Iraq has cost us $3 trillion!! (that's $10,000 PER PERSON!) It has not found WMD or bin Laden, cost 4,000+ US lives, and had no valid justification in the first place. And since the US Treasury didn't have that kind of money sitting around, the GOP "Charged it!". They added it to the US federal deficit!
It is ironic that Republicans criticize Democrats as tax-and-spend liberals, yet this Republican administration has done more to increase the US' federal deficit than any other administration in history (they are the "New Democrats"!). Since we didn't have $3 trillion for their war, and billions for the Bush tax stimulus, the GOP simply "charged it!". They got out the card, and put it on the tab! The US now owes $10 TRILLION (or $30,000 per person) thanks to the GOP; do they think our debtors (mostly China) are going to forgive that? My kids and their kids and their grandkids will be paying that back for decades! When the GOP ask for the charge card in November, just say "No!".
How can the American people continue to be duped by the GOP's ruse that "we don't raise your taxes", when INSTEAD they increase the federal deficit to such incredible levels, and hope no one will notice?
For another, McCain, who for 25 years, argued AGAINST financial system regulation and/or bailout, NOW supports it. What's up with that? Has he had an epiphany?
McCain, who two weeks ago, said "the economy is fundamentally sound", NOW realizes it's not! Uh, earth to Johnny, what planet have you been asleep on for the last 8 months?!
How many times can he flip-flop without falling over? 8-)
