Question: exempt employee verses non exempt employee what is the difference? I'm paid a salary of 30K a year, if i work overtime should i be paid overtime wages or can i take equal time off or 1 1/2 time off? I'm a plant accountant and I don't supervisor or make company decisions.

Answer: If you're on Salary, that means you're Exempt, therefore you shouldn't get paid overtime. If you were an hourly employee, then you'd be applicable for OT pay. I'm a Supervisor and am on Salary, thus I can go and come as I please.

Answer: accounting is the job for him. He simply needs to keep at it. It's likely neither his age or his hearing, he simply isn't interviewing well. At 53 you have 10-15 good years of employment out of someone. So it's got to be something else as I don't think anyone truly expects office staff to stay for that time period. Perhaps you can ask your boss to provide him with a practice interview so that you can get firsthand feedback about things. Find out what he did wrong and how he can improve on his techniques. Also review the resume...could be some errors in there.
