Question: What kind of position should someone with a Business and Technology Management degree look for? Hello everyone,
I am a recent graduate with a bachelors in business and technology management. I have been looking for work for the past few months as a business analyst, assistant project manager and a few others. I have been unsuccessful although I think I have a great resume, lots of experience and a good education.
The only jobs that I was able to find were with sales. However, with sales, I feel that my education is worthless. I do not see myself as a salesman.
My question is, what kind of positions should I be looking?
Answer: You are already in the right arena. A degree like yours is common amongst business and technical analysts, technical writers, information technology directors, information technology recruiters and information technology human resources management. Because you have experience as an assistant project manager, I might suggest you take a look at becoming a certified project manager. It might open more doors for you.
You might also enjoy a role such as director of information technology or information systems manager.

Question: What IT skills do You need to become a business analyst ? What technology or programming skills are needed to qualify to work as a business analyst?
How do You make it as a Business analyst on the technology side ?
Answer: A Business Analyst does not really need experience in technology or programming unless the businesses they are analysing make use -- or can make use -- of technology. However, most businesses do make use of IT, so skills in this area can help tremendously.
I think you need to define your question more and think about what type of business analyst you are interested in.
On saying that, Spreadsheet skills are likely to be useful so as to model business finances, but they are not mandatory.
Question: Change in career (From Tech to Business Analyst/Strategy Planning)? Hello Friends,
I am working in a telecommunications firm focusing completely on technology development. Now-a-days I feel to change my career path to include strategy planning/ Business analyst positions. Can someone help me on how to achieve this?
Thanks much,
JAY.
Answer: Having done both, allow me to point out:
Tech work is very hands on. You are challenged constantly and the results (a.k.a. fruits of your labor) are sometimes immediate but almost always apparent.
Analysts / Planners are very cerebral and the work is challenging, but not as result oriented. The work you do as an analyst may or may not come to fruition. And, if it is you may never see your results. Plus, be prepared to be seated in one chair in front of a computer for 8 hours a day.
After 4 years of working as an analyst, I came to realize that I require a certain job satisfaction. I hated working 12 hours on a report that sometimes wasn't even used because the big dogs weren't as concerned about the details.
If you continue with your move, make sure to give yourself an out just in case you get into it and realize it's not where you want to be.
That's what I did and am now working in an aerospace company that allows me the privilege of working both sides of the fence while paying me more than I was paid as an analyst.
But in answer to your question, to be an analyst or planner, you will need to show a propensity to being the type of personality that I just described.
People who hire analysts are very keen to this and will be looking for indicators from you either for or against....
Question: How do I get started in information technology? I'm in grade 12 and I want to know what education I need to get into an IT career.
I live in Toronto, Canada and there are only 2 Universities (outside the city) that offer a Bachelor of Information Technology.
There are three colleges in my area that offer diplomas for Systems Technology, Systems Technician, Information Systems Business Analyst, and Networking.
Is it better to get a diploma from college or a degree to get started in information technology?
Is there any other way of starting an IT career?
Answer: get certifications first... then worry about getting a degree... seriously a well certified guy is almost always better and more valuable then a guy with a diploma... what part of IT do you want to get into? it really is a broad field.
start by studying for a+ then decide if you want to do windows admin network admin DBA (oracle sql etc) or development or whatever... there are certs for all of these paths... just go down the path and you will do ok...
Question: Is it possible to obtain a career as a Systems Analyst with a Business Administration Degree? If so, what would be the necessary entry-level jobs for such a job? I'm a Business Administration Major and I hope to one day be a Technology Manager
Answer: Not without more training... Part of my degree is to train to be a Systems Analyst and it is very complex.
Here's a list of some of the types of diagrams you are required to be able to design...

Question: I'm searching for an internship or short contract in Malaysia in Information Technology? Preferably in a Junior Business Analyst role, or either in a Test Analyst capability. I have an MBA (with Strategic IT) from a reputed university in Australia, and have Australian IT experience. Are there opportunities in Malaysia for such work, and if yes, can anyone give me some pointers on how to go about it? Thanks in advance!
Answer: I may not be able to give you a prcise answer.
If you are an Australian, better get a job in Australia.
If you are from some other country, say from India ,
I don't think Malaysia should be your choice.
