In the general accounting field, an "accountant" is supposed to be a CPA, but many people call themselves accountants who are, essentially, only bookkeepers. If there is a position somewhere called "accountant" you're probably looking at bookkeeping of some kind. The controller of a company essentially runs all of the financial aspects of the company (not obtaining money, but managing the assets of the company). An assistant would probably be more of a management position of a sort than a technical position like "accountant". The controller must make decisions and put plans into action. But in order to figure out exactly what each position entails, you'd have to get a description.
