Question: When you work at a hotel, what is accounts receivable? The manager as me if i've handle accounts receivable before.
Answer: In accounting you have accounts payable and accounts receivable. A/P they pay all of the bills that are associated with the business. A/R they receive the money that is paid to the business. You make the bank deposits.
When someone comes to stay at the hotel, they will be charged XX dollars per night to stay at the hotel. They will pay by check, credit card or cash. At the end of the day you have to balance the ledger sheet to make sure that all transactions are in balance. If the hotel rate is $100 per night and ten people checked in, you should show that the hotel is owned $1000. Some people paid cash, some charged their credit card. The two together should show that you collected $1000 for that day. .
ALWAYS BE HONEST--No I haven't but I am willing to learn new skills so I can become more valuable to this hotel.
Question: How common are fraudulant money orders with safeway money gram? My mom began working from home as an accounts receivable manager. She received some monney orders that seemed suspicious, we called them in and sure enough they were not legally purchased.
Answer: I also had such a problem... every money order, travelers check and such needs to be called in, if she deposits these into her acct, she is held liable financially and criminally for each bad check. Mine were American Express Travelers Checks!!!! Good thing I checked them out... It was $4000

Question: What field (outside of retail) is a good match for an experienced retail manager? Been a retail manager for 18+ yrs and I am researching a new career path. Some areas of interest are medical coding, human resources and accounts receivable. Do not want to spend $10,000+ on trade school education. Any help or suggestions?
Answer: Well Steph, you also have to consider you're going to be typecast by many employers, & your age is working against you> the closer you get to 40, the harder it becomes to start over. Most employers will be able to find workers for less than what you need to live. on > or at least think that.
As to your choices, HR is usually the first department to be cut in tight times, as companies are not looking to take on any new employees.
My sister does medical coding from home, & it works for her. You have to have either some endorsements or certifications before most hospitals will look at you. The government is constantly auditing your work, & you have to read charts written out by physicians > not always the most legible scribblers out there.
Accounts receivable would normal require some previous experience & course work in accounting & computers.
Given your people skills, I was wondering if maybe selling something wouldn't be feasible? Perhaps a product or service where you'd feel is a benefit to someone? Autos > especially the luxury models > pay decent commissions. And the high end merchandise does seem to do well in any economy > jewelry, yachts, real estate > to name a few.
Question: Has anyone ever received emails to work as an accounts receivable at home for certain companies? Here's a copy of the email. I want to know if it's legit? And if anyone has tried it before? I've also received other emails like this but from Ashley Furniture.

Question: The president, vice president, and sales manager of Moorer Corporation were discussing the company's present c The vice president, however, suggested that a better alternative to easier credit terms would be to accept consumer credit cards such as VISA or MASTERCARD. She argued that this alternative could increase sales by 40%. The credit card finance charges to Moorer Corporation would be 4% of the additional sales.
At this point, the president interrupted by saying that he wasn't at all sure that increasing credit sales of any kind was a good thing. In fact, he suggested that the $37,500 of uncollectible accounts receivable was altogether too high. He wondered whether the company should discontinue offering sales on account.
With the information given, determine whether Moorer Corporation would be better off under the sales manager's proposal or the vice president's proposal. Also, address the president's suggestion that credit sales of all types be abolished.
Answer: This question sounds like an MBA prof with too much time on his/her hands and I really can't take it seriously.
It is a simple P/L analysis unless the president has a rub against cc companies as a whole.
The companies BIG PROBLEM is NOT cc sales, but having the staff that can determine a good sale from a bad one.
If you have been scammed by BAD CC sales it is YOUR PROBLEM to solve intermnally and NOT a cc problem.
Get REAL,
Jaques
