Question: Can a person claiming a Jewish background be elected vice-president? I heard a rumor that the Republican Ticket in 2008 (unless we are under a full dictatorship via HR 6166 EH, and there is no election) will be Mark Foley for President and Jack Abramoff for vice. Jeb Bush is busy tweaking the voting machines already.
That's the scuttle-butt, think they can make it?
Answer: I understand we will be under a king by them, shortly after the Nov electons.
Too bad I understand Hillary had planned on it beng a queen after she was elected.
Question: What do you do when your HR Director is notorious for his sexually harassing behavior? The Director of HR/Asst. Vice-president of my company is historically known for his inappropriate comments and actions and the president and principals laugh it off. Do I do something it about it or hightail it out of there? The odds don't seem to be in my favor but I am not the type to roll over and put up with it.
Answer: If he does or says anything to you just look him in the eye and say in a calm but direct voice that you find his actions/words offensive and to please stop. If the actions/words continue you will be filing sexual harassment charges. It's best to do this when you are one on one. If you do it in a large group it could seem overly aggressive and that opens a whole new can of worms.
Usually with sexual harassment charges, unless it is outright and endangering you, it's best to ask them to stop and give a "warning" before you file papers. Then, they can never claim that they were unaware of the effect of their actions. Be sure to noted the date and time that incidences happened. If things do need legal actions later, it will be a big help to have your information cited.
If you do this, depending on the type of place that you work, you may have to deal with a lot of crap afterwards and if the business is run by men, it could be harder to move up in the job. However, if the men that you work for are actually as you say they are, you may have a hard time already moving up.
There is always the option of being asked to transfer or start looking for a new job. It just depends on how comfortable you feel and how much effort you want to put into fixing it.
Question: How can I get my company to allow same-sex partner benefits? I work in Georgia and my employer only provides benefits to legal opposite-sex spouses of employees, which would exclude my same-sex partner of 4 years. The vice president of HR at my company has scheduled some time to talk with me about my opposition to this policy. Could someone please give me some good points to cover in this conversation? I do not want to come off hostile and unprepared. Any ideas for what I could talk about?
Answer: I would find out what companies in the area offer benefits to the same sex partners as well as domestic partners. I live in New York and they list them under the same benefit here. But if you have information from other companies in the area, it may help.
Personally, I feel it should fall under the discrimination laws. But that's just me.
On a side note, WHY do people have to be judgemental and ignorant? I have seen married straight people go threw more people than the average joe too. You can't judge what you don't know or understand. There are a ton of gay people that have been together for many many years! I think some people may want to educate themself before they start speaking.
Question: First corporate job in HR...how LONG should I stay in this role? I graduated in May of 2008 and just landed my first career job as Human Resources Administrator...people have mixed feelings so what are yours??
How long do I stay at this company before moving on? Should I switch companies and gain valuable knowledge in many different industries or is it good to stay with my current company and work my way up the career ladder?
FYI the director, vice president and manager of HR have all been with this same company for 5+years!
Answer: Stay at least 3 years and learn as much as you can. Get involved with any project/assign available. After this period you should be fairly valuable and could get a nice offer from another employer.
Question: Recently offered a job verbally..what is the wait time for a formal offer from the HR? I was recently offered a job verbally by the vice president of a company. The VP told me that the HR department will contact me in a week with a formal offer. Its been over a week and I haven't received anything. I was wondering how long does one wait to get a formal offer from the HR department. Is there anything I should do expedite
the process? ie..calling the HR department...thanks in advance
Answer: Yes call...but of course this varies from company to company. The HR person might be out sick. Can't hurt to check. Just explain what you were offered and that you are curious to know when you would see it in writing.
Question: Joe Biden For Vice President? Biden? Not exactly the person to pick as a running mate if you want to get the votes of conservatives or middle-of-the-road voters. When you open the door to his cage and let him out you never know whether you're going to get a loveable Tweety Bird character or the Tasmanian Devil. The only thing certain is that if it means more taxes he's for it. With only a few exceptions he votes the straight liberal party line even if it means ignoring te wishes of the public.
Nothing exposes a Congressman's true beliefs and positions like their voting record. Here are a number of Biden's votes over the last couple of years
1. pro-abortion - S Amdt 3896
2. pro late term abortion - HR 1122
3. pro NEA (the group that used tax money to display a crucifix in a bottle of urine as art) - HR 2466
4. pro increased taxes on energy and oil companies. - S 3044
5. Would not vote on bills expressing support for our troops and for General Petraeus - S Amdt 2934, S Amdt 2947
7, voted to continue the practice of "earmarks" on legislation. S Amdt 4347-
8. voted for Congress to raise its own pay - HR 3058
9. voted against immigration enforcement and a border fence. - S Amdt 4231
10. voted for a "hate crimes" bill (that's a thought crimes bill). - S 2549
11. voted against a bill to stop illegal drug traffic. - S 1415
12. voted against Development of Oil Shale and Offshore Natural Gas
- S Amdt 4207 to S Con Res 70
13. voted against drilling offshore Va. - S Amdt 1566
14. voted against drilling and development in the Gulf of Mexico. - S 3711
15. voted against a bill that would require states to recognize only male/female marriages. - S J Res 40
16. voted against a bill that would have made it illegal to knowingly transport a pregnant minor across state lines in order to obtain an abortion - S 403
17. voted against a bill that would have declared English to be our national language. - S Amdt 1151
Looks to me like Obama may have hurt his chances more than helped them by choosing Biden.
Lella: you have just done what drives we conservatives up the wall when we try to have a conservation with liberals. You tried to impose your "set of rules" on the discussion and what or how we conservatives see thing doesn't seem to matter to you.
BTW, when looking at the profit picture of a company the total amount of earnings is immaterial. It is the percentage of net profit they make that matters. On that basis businesses in most US industries earn more (and sometimes far more) than do the US oil companies. The reason that's important to understand is that when it comes to persons who live on retirement income from investment funds they get a lower monthly income from oil companies than they would from investing in a bottled water company. Beware, politicians who point to a company's or industry's gross earnings without also mentioning their net earnings as a percentage are trying to deceive you, and that is a hard and fst truth.

Question: If I am fired in Washington State when do they have to pay me my final paycheck? I was fired last Wednesday, for no reason, so that my new employer could bring back an employee from her FMLA (maternity leave). Due to the economy they did not have an open spot for her and were required to bring her back...or so I've read.
I was only with this employer for just under 4 months. They offered me a month of severance. Never told me the position was temporary when I started and I've gotten nothing but kudos and "great jobs". My file has letters from customers stating that I did a good job.
My boss, who is the owner of the company's son, is being relocated to a new position due to poor performance. He has been my boss the entire time I have been employeed and this is his 5th time being relocated to a new position due to "poor performance". He refused to sign the termination paperwork when corporate told him that he needed to fire me saying that I had done a great job and there was no reason to terminate me.
My Human Resource Manager also refused to sign the termination paperwork and told corporate if they wanted to fire me for no reason someone at corporate had to do the dirty work. So at this point I have not signed the severance paperwork. I was told by my HR Manager that the company was marking me down as not rehireable. So I called the Vice President of HR at the Corporate Office last Thursday demanding an explanation. He said he would look into it and call me back. I called him yesterday and he said he was still following up with a few folks and he would call me back. Today I sent him an email and he said he would call me on Thursday. It is only Tuesday and I can't sleep at night.
What is he looking into? What is the delay? Can they take the one month of severance off the table? If they do I won't be able to pay my rent or my car payment and I'm not eligible for unemployment. When are they required to pay me my final paycheck? They owe me for 5 days from the previous payroll. What do you suppose he is looking into and can they take the money already promised, I have it in writing, but not yet signed?
Thank you so much!
Answer: Is there any email with the one month severance option? Sounds like they are trying to get out of paying UI, but you should definitely fight if they say not rehirable--that is ridiculous. Keep after them--they feel you might file a claim against them, it sounds like. Be polite but FIRM about this--don't make any rash statements though. Follow up with your department of labor about your rights.
Question: Network Engineers - AM I in Deep Trouble for sending this EMAIL internally in a company? Hi guys. I hav made a huge mistake. I sent a very personal email to the president of the company I work for. I was saying goodbye. He has never been inappropriate but I simply grew feelings for him, no i am not a gold digger but thats irrelevant, I am 25 and a completel moron. we got an email from the company today that the emails are being misused and should be kept for business only and they were using the chain emails as an example which also happened recently. however, I am afraid someone read this email. we got this warning email from a senior vice president of HR !! I am just curous, do they read every email ? well i am already leaving but I dont want the CEO to get in trouble because of me.
no we happen to be a part of a bigger company ... for eg... we are B .. part of A and we got this warning email from A..
Answer: Emails are not read , they are just scanned for Attachments.
Also nothing ever happens even if you send Chain emails,,,,happens everywhere...they just warn you and thats it.
If they were to read emails , it would open more job profiles for people for the same. Also they would lose time and money .
