Question: How do I find out the GM and director of engineering of hotels? I work for a renovation company that sends out mailing lists to hotels so that they have them in mind if they ever think of remodeling. What is the easiest way to find out their GM and director of engineering? Its for hyatt and hilton hotels in the US. All I need are the names so when I send out the letter it has the right names on it.

Answer: I have worked for several Hilton chain properties including Hilton Garden Inns and Hampton Inns. Most chain hotels, especially big-brands like Hilton have strict corporate standards that only allow their hotels to use corporate-approved vendors. Even if the hotel is indepenently franchise-managed and wanted to use your service they cannot as they have to use corporate-approved vendors dictated by Hilton corporate offices. I have worked for the front office departments and we routinely discard a handful of these types of advertisements as they cannot be used, its a waste of time and paper. Sorry but thats how these hotels work.

Question: I am currently a marketing director for an engineering firm. i would like to find a more meaningful job...? I am moving to missouri and i would really like to find a job with a company that does a significant amount of "good". "Good" is open to your interpretation. I can not work for a non-profit agency because the money is horrible. It is going to have to be a large private company. I am looking for a wide array of suggestions. Answer: You can probably look for some top companies in the territory you are moving to or you are interested in. You can apply through their websites and whether these companies have some senior level positions for the profile you are handling currently.

Question: Engineering magazines or journals that a technical director or research director would likely subscribe to? If someone wanted to advertise in an engineering or other journal that a research or technical director would likely subscribe to, what would those publications most likely be? Which ones reach the widest audience in your opinion? Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Since there are so many types of engineering if you have any suggestions for a specific area such as chemical, industrial, civil, electrical, mechanical, petroleum, etc. that would be helpful also

Answer: The best periodicals to advertise for engineering positions are in the society magazines of each of the different disciplines. For instance, ASCE offers a monthly magazine for all civil engineering professionals, then supplements that with monthly journals in the specialties. For structural engineers, the "Structures" magazine is well circulated. The same is true for geotechnical, water resources, etc. For mechanical engineers, go to the ASME website to advertise in their monthly publication. Same goes for electrical engineers with IEEE. You might also consider engineering trade groups, such as AISC, ACI, PCA, etc. Finally, government organizations offer publications, such as the FHWA, and AASHTO. All of these acronyms will be obvious in a google search. Finally, If you live near a college that has an engineering school. go to their library and look at the current periodicals.

Question: What is gennerally the difference between Director and Superintendent? -Director of Engineering and Works -Superintendent of Works If I want to email about a job, which would I be better off contacting?

Answer: typically the director will have multiple supervisors or managers reporting to them and are responsible for budget related decisions - including hiring.

Question: What is the qualification to become independent director (board) for any company?Do i need to register ? Answer: Joining a board of directors is not exactly something that has a procedure or registration. Board of directors are the top dogs of a company. They normally hold a significant chunk of its shares and for good reason. They basically decide if the current path the CEO (and upper management) is going is "good for the overall company." When a CEO is ousted it is normally done by the board. Their job is to ensure the best interests of the company are kept and usually make all the major decisions for a corporation. Two ways to become part of a board of directors that I can think of: 1) Have A LOT of proved expertise that places you at the top (or very near the top) of your field with many achievements in both education and business (incld. holding a CEO, CFO, or VP positions in the past). 2) Have A LOT of money and invest in a start-up company and request a board position. From your question it appears you are looking to be more of a Consultant then a board member. Question: Suggest one good project for an engineering society? im applying for the post of "welfare director" in an engineering student society so i need to face an interview very soon. Answer: I am a little confused as to the job of a welfare director ~ is this like service work or building up morale for the club? In our community, engineering students build public improvements in our city parks. Some have engineered riparian or wetland areas, while others design small foot bridges over narrow streams. I've also see engineering soil conservation projects to prevent erosion. The most popular activity seems to be building exhibits for the children's Science Museum. I think a good place to start is with your city's Parks & Recreation department, your local science & natural history museum, or the Bureau of Land Management.

Answer: i would give him a week to mull it over... he is probably pretty busy getting settled in... if the days you gave him have past by a few.. drop him an email and say your schedule has changed and the following days are now convenient for you.
