Answer: Some water management engineers in the third world employ civil and or chemical engineers
Question: Is EXETER A Good University On The Program Of Urban Water Systems? I have recently received an offer from Exeter university on the program of MSc in Urban Water Systems, and i'm also grateful if you can tell me more about "MSc in Urban Water Engineering and Management" or "Environment management of Urban Land and Water" at Sheffield University.
Answer: Exeter is a well-ranked university overall. You might look at the department professors profiles and see what the research projects are that the professors are working on and where they got their PHDs and what their dissertations were about. You could GOOGLE departments of Water Engineering for Advanced search and put in "departments of water" for the advanced search "exact wording" section and above that type in "rank" and "university". Don't use the quotes though. You may have to play with it and maybe change the words to get the search you want. Maybe substitute the word " universities" for university or such.
Call the department and ask if they have a list of where their graduates are now working. A good department usually is ready and eager to provide this to you, their potential "buyer". Good Luck.

Question: Projects in Ausralia for water engineers? I'm transferring internally with my employer to Australia, my background is civil/water engineering and Im doing environronmental management MSc in England.
any tips on where the driest/biggest water and env projects in australia are?
also, if you're an Aussie, which city would you think is the most enjoyable to live in? (Syd, brisbane, Melbourne, QL)
Answer: Any of the water boards would be pleased to have you. In Australia large parts of the country are experiencing water shortages.
All of Australia is fantastic but there is tons of money to be made in the mining communities.
Question: Is the ICE chartered examination the same as the IStructE Examination? The obvious is welcome, like IStructE is to do with structures while ICE is much broader, with different examinations in different fields like ground engineering, water and waste management, transport, structures and construction law and management.
Answer: No.
IStructE is a calculation based exam lasting most of a day.
ICE is a pain in the a*se.

Answer: I think the biggest water project in Australia would be the Murray River project. The Murray which is part of Australia's largest river system (the Murray-Darling) is in dire straits due to a combination of drought and over allocation of water to irrigation projects. There are major salination and other environmental problems and at most times, no water actually gets to the sea in SA. The Commonwealth government, in conjunction with Victoria, South Australia and NSW is committing 10 billion+ to saving the Murray though it's bound to take much more over time. I'm not sure where the politics are at at present as there has been a lot of bickering about it, but it will definitely happen - it must!
The Snowy River (feeds into the Murray) is also in major trouble and I think there's a project happening there as well.
Queensland is setting up a very expensive water grid to transfer water from one place to another and a couple of very unpopular new dams are on the drawing board and there are other projects happening all over the country - should be plenty of work around for someone like you!
I live in Brisbane and love it here, but really, my favourite city is Melbourne. Brisbane's weather is better and we have a great outdoors lifestyle, but Melbourne is a more enjoyable city with a far greater range of cultural and other activities. Fantastic restaurants, nightlife, live theatre, shopping, the CBD has an amazing atmosphere, it's the sporting capital of Oz and the list goes on. Pity about the weather. It's very changeable (it's accurately said to have four seasons in a day), the winters can be miserable and some summer days can be unbearable but the other attractions make up for it for many people.
Question: which Civil Engineering Specialization to take and why? hi guys, im taking CE now, but i have to choose a specialization.
1. Structural Engineering
2. Construction Technology Management
3. Transportation Engineering
4. Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering?
i would like to know which one is best for finding a job wise, compensation, salary and demand these days. I reside in the Philippines but willing to work my career worldwide :)
THANKS :)
Answer: It all depends on what your interests are and what is needed. The reality of things is, except in very rare cases, everything is so specialized that you have to pick an area and go with it. For example Structural may seem like the most broad category with the greatest range of opportunities since almost all infrastructure is expected to take a mix of dead, live and dynamic loads.
The reality is that, at the level of experts who actually know what they are doing, they specialize in areas like reinforced concrete, skyscrapers, bridges, dams, ect. These categories break down into their own specializations like bridges breaking down into causeways, suspension, cable stay, etc. There are even some that specialize in making retractable roofs in stadiums. However, the lower level engineers are the ones who can easily switch between different areas.
There's also the factor of whether you prefer to be in an office and design or get out into the field and build/maintain it. The office is comfortable and allows you to create what will be built. For others this is too boring and they want to get out into the field and be close to the hard work, noise and dust where it is actually being built. I personally prefer to mix the two, designing in the office and doing inspections on the construction site.
There's also the crucial factor of what's in demand in your country. I don't know what is in demand in the Philippines, my guess is that replacing/upgrading old bridges, dams and roads are big business. My area in the United States is designing energy efficient/high performance buildings and retrofitting old ones to improve their performance. However this recession, with its drastically reduced energy prices, has left me unemployed with way too much spare time to waste on things like Yahoo Answers.
When it comes to choosing do something that you like to do. If you choose something based only on salary(big mistake) you'll most likely end up doing something you hate. If you do something you like the salary may be lower at first, but you're more likely to excel, become and expert and get promoted and get better pay in the long run. I like what I do and did well at it until the whole company went under. Just don't go into an area with ridiculous amounts of competition, then you'll be overworked and underpaid, unless you really want to succeed there then go for it.
I hope this helps.
Question: what is the difference between sanitary and environmental engineering? how do they differ in their scope of study or curriculum?
which would be a more suitable practice if I want to pursue a field in water supply management and waste water treatment?
Answer: A Sanitary engineer is a civil engineer that designs water supply systems, wastewater system (sewers) and land fill systems. An environmental engineer designs methods to mitigate polloution in air, water, buildings etc. The core studies in college are the same. Usually in the senior year the Civil engineer decides to specilize in sanitation of environmental. The sanitary engineer would work in water supply and waste water treatment.
Question: What is the best subdiscipline in civil engineering? Transportation, structural, surveying, construction management, environmental, water resources, land development, or geotechnical? Which has the best long term job prospects and pay?
Answer: Structural design using finite element analysis.
It is used in some many different industries and as the need for more efficient designs increases the need for better anyalysis is going to increase.
Question: Job prospects in Australia? I am a Civil Engr. and currently doing Masters in Water Resource Management , I havent yet completed my masters but I wanna ask water engineers in Australia about the job prospects in this field and what sort of skills do the employers require for this job. Please be elaborative !
Answer: The first thing you need to do is check if your skills are needed by the country at the time you want to come here to give you a work visa - http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s…
Water Resource Management is a growing industry and there are plans for water recycling plants and other waste-water management.
Your best bet to find out about skills is to give the HR department of a company like GHD a call and speak to someone there - http://www.ghd.com.au/aptrixpublishing.n…
Some other comapnies and organisations to look into are:
http://www.fieldforce.net.au/
http://www.unaa.org.au/
http://www.waterindustry.com.au/
www.ausdesal.org
The best conference in Australia on this area is "Water" - http://www.pipecommunications.com.au/con… which will help you identify issues, companies and skills.
