Question: Vice President? Hello there,
Am I correct in assuming the Vice President of the United States [for each side, Republican and Democratic] will be chosen with the Democratic/Republican Nominee at the convention? Would this mean both candidates have about 2 months to decide who their running mate will be?
Thanks
Sam
Answer: Both are likely to announce that before the conventions.
This year the conventions are late due to the Summer Olympics. They will want their tickets together and put before the public before those late dates. (No matter who either of them pick....there are going to be angry people about the choice....they will want there to be plenty of time for cooldown).
Question: What way of picking vice president is best? What way of picking vice president is best? It used to be there was a race for president and the second place winner became the vice president. Now, the Democrats and Republicans just let their presidential candidates pick their vice presidents, but the Libertarians have a separate election for vice president. Do you think the Democrats and Republicans should do it the Libertarian way so the voters can pick their vice president, or do you like the Democrat/Republican way so we get an early idea of what kind of judgement the presidential candidate has?
Answer: Presidential candidate should be allowed to choose who they want to work with on an almost intimate level for the next 4 to 8 years.
The old way didn't work which is why they abandoned it.
Question: How is Vice President Cheney not part of the executive branch of the American government? Maybe I missed the civics lesson regarding characteristics of the vice presidency. To the best of my knowledge, the Vice President is a member of the government's executive branch, and the VP's role of president of the senate, was designed as an executive check upon the senate's powers. With this in mind, the VP would be a full-fledged member of the executive branch. I do not understand how Vice President Cheney can deny membership within the executive branch.
Answer: Well, what IS interesting is that he doesn't receive a paycheck as "Vice President", but as "President of the Senate" !! SOoooo I can smile and laugh at his twisted logic.
What screws up his "theory" is when he claimed "Executive Privilege" to prevent Scooter and others in his office from testifying.
Not TOO much different from President Clinton claiming he couldn't be engaged in a lawsuit because he was Commander in Chief and therefore fell under the "Soldiers & Sailors Relief Act". He dropped that claim when he was advised that under UCMJ he would then be open to charges of Adultry and Sodomy.
Question: What if the president and vice president elect die before taking office? Also I want to know what if the president and vice president nominee's dies days before general election in the United States with no 3rd party running.
Answer: for the first part it goes to the speaker of the house and she/he picks a VP
2ND part would be a cock up and would probably go to the convention for a good old dust up to pick a candidate , 3rd parties don't enter into it because it would only matter to the party who they would then run.
ya staff : looks like you need to read the first part of the question was about the president and vp ELECT, that means vote over just waiting till january to be sworn in.
Question: How many ways can a president and vice-president be selected in a class of twenty-two students? How many ways can a president and vice-president be selected in a class of twenty-three students?
Answer: well, if there are 23 students, there are 23 choices for president and then 22 choices for vice president
23 x 22 = ???
Permuntation (23, 2)
Question: Does the Vice President or any other elected official in Washington have free housing? In Canada the Prime Minister, the Governor General, and I think at least one other MP live in government owned homes (mansions). In the states, the president lives in the White House; does the Vice President also have a special residence? Thanks.
Answer: Yes, there is a Vice President's residence on the grounds of the US Naval Observatory in Washington DC. As far as I know, no other officials have government housing
Question: Can a Vice President of an S corp dissolve the corporation? My partner has essetially stopped coming to work. In the last two weeks he has shown up a total of 6 hours. He is the president and I am vice president. Can I, as the vice president, dissolve the corporation without his consent?
Answer: A Vice President cannot dissolve a corporation. A vice president is an "officer" of the corporation and, as such, lacks the power or authority to dissolve.
In most states in the U.S. (we know that this is a U.S. corporation because it is an "S Corporation"), a corporation may be dissolved only upon the majority vote of its shareholders.
Your question seems to imply that you own a substantial percentage of the outstanding corporate stock. You should review the corporate records to find out who owns the outstanding stock and whether you, the other shareholder(s) and the corporation entered a "buy-sell agreement" (or similar agreement), which would govern this exact situation.
If you would like further clarification, please re-post with additional information.
Hope this helps.
Question: How many ways can a president, vice-president, and secretary be elected from a class of 12? How many ways can a president, vice-president, and secretary be elected from a class of 12
people?
pleas help
Answer: There's three positions so..
For president there is a possibility of 12 people
for VP there's a possibility of 11 since one person has to be president
and secretary there's a chance of 10 people.. since the other 2 positions are filled .
Multiply all that together and you get 1320 ways..
Question: Who would your ideal president and vice president candidates be? If you could have any two people in the country run for president and vice president, who would it be?
I personally would love for Colin Powell to run for president with Condoleeza Rice as his running mate.
Answer: I would definitely vote for Powell & Rice but my ideal would be Guiliani and Romney.
Question: What happens when a vice-president dies in office? I know what takes place when a US president dies, while still serving his term, what happens when a vice-president dies in office? Does the current president choose another VP?
Answer: Here you go:
Amendment XXV
Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
Question: Can relatives be elected President and Vice President of the United States? For example, if Hillary Clinton ran for President, could she pick someone from her immediate family to be her Vice President? Or is this against the law?
Answer: Yes. Nothing in the Constitution prohibits this generally. However, in your scenario, she cannot pick Bill to be VP because under the Constitution, the VP must be able to also serve as President. Bill cannot because again under the Constitution, he is limited to 2 terms.
Question: Who is the greatest United States Vice President? You hear about the best and worst U.S. Presidents and sometimes the worst Vice Presidents, but who would be the greatest Vice President?
Answer: who was,,????
Most likely Truman, that took over for Roosevelt when he died... in the middle of WWII... having to ok the Atomic bomb drops, which was great.
or one acting as just VP, ??? on what do you want to base this part???
or the worst Cheney.. use his company to gain billions while in office.
Question: Can the Vice-President of the United States resign with a successor in place? Section 2 of the Twenty-fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states: "Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress." Suppose that a vice-president wishes to retire from the office on condition that a successor be selected and confirmed beforehand. (Cabinet officials and justices on the Supreme Court can do this.) Is this valid, or does there have to be a vacancy in the office before the 25th Amendment can be applied? I would appreciate sharing thoughts and opinions on this. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the clarification, Cochise, regarding my statement about the Cabinet and Supreme Court justices. All I was pointing out was that confirmation hearings can begin with the predecessor still serving, but they have to had officially resigned at that point.
Answer: Both of the first two answers are correct, as far as they go.
Officially, the VP has no say in the matter and must vacate the office before the XXVth amendment kicks in. I suppose some sort of informal deal could be made ahead of time, but it certainly would not be binding or enforcable.
Until the vacant office of VP is filled in accordance with the XXVth amendment, the next in line of succession is the Speaker of the House, according to the Presidential Succession Act of 1947.
As for your assertion that members of the cabinet and Supreme Court justices can stay in office until a successor is selected and confirmed, it is true that some officials resign, but continue to serve until the vacancy is filled. However, that is totally up to the President and appointment and confirmation cannot be an enforcable part of the "deal" to vacate the office.
Question: Who is more senior an Executive Vice President in the Parent company or a President of the subsidiary? Also please tell me can i make a subsidiary President hold a rank in my company e.g. President of Subsidiary Inc / Corporate Vice President Parent Inc. I think i saw this designation somewhere. Innovative / Out of the box ideas are welcome.
Answer: The EVP of the parent company should be more senior than a subsidiary President.
The subsidiary President can also have a senior position in the parent company. This depends if there is a need in the parent company for such a position and in accordance to the qualifications and expertise of the subsidiary President. Example is the President of a software development subsidiary can be VP for Technology of the parent company.
Another example, the President of a subsidiary who manufactures consumer goods can also be the VP or EVP for Manufacturing of a parent company who has other subsidiaries w/c manufacture food and other consumer goods.
Question: How do I write a speech to become a vice president to be in a National Honor Society? I need help writing a speech to become a Vice President in a National Honor Society. I would really appreciate if you can write a speech for me to convince people to vote me for a vice president?
Answer: I'd use a word processor. It saves time and checks your spelling. "Word" is popular with people who can bring home the installation disk from the office. The rest of us have to use an Open Source program.
Start off with a mild joke about yourself. Follow that with a description of your qualifications, and finish with a vision of where you want the society to go, and how it can help make the world a better place. You can use the lines "We can change the world. We can't change much of it, and we can't change it much, but we can make it a better place".
The "change the world" was free, I'll write the whole thing for you for $100. Write to me.
Question: Who presides over the Senate when the vice president is being impeacehed? I would just like to know who presides over the Senate during the impeachment of a vice president, if it ever came down to that? Can the president speak on behalf of the vice president during an impeachment?
Answer: Considering there hasn't been an impeachment of a vise president because all the blame for anything done always goes to the president and neither of them have done anything wrong.
