Question: how hard is it to get a stationary steam engineers license? I would like to become a stationary steam engineer. I live in Ohio and I am wondering how hard the test is to pass. Also, are there any training programs here to take to learn some of the more technical parts of the job?
Answer: it depends where you live, i dont know ohio, but i am a steam engineer for the canadian government, here there are different grades of engineer, you start as a 4th class engineer, allowed to be in charge of a plant not exceeding 1000 kilowatts, then a 3rd class allowed to operate up to 5000 kilowatts and so on up to a 1st class steam engineer. Here in alberta you should be able to pass the exams with a high school background in math, chemistry, physics and alot (i mean alot) of studying as this is a very unique profession. that is just to attain the 4th class then you work up from there while you are making cash working somewhere. The governing branch here is the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) they give the tests, and certify every pressure vessel used in the province. find their website it is a good resource for sample questions and study material. I have witnessed high school dropouts straight outta prision, go to school and eventually pass the test (due to religious studying) but also very booksmart people can pass with ease but cannot do the job safely. good luck ! quitting my job and going to school for power engineering was the best decision i ever made.
Question: what is "license of 4th class stationary engineer" means?
Answer: This is a Canadian designation for a job classification and level. See link below.
