I am interviewing people for the position of Senior Software Engineer, and a big chunk of the job is solving problems (s/he will be developing testing software). So, what are the best logical questions that you have been asking job prospects? Or if you are a job seeker, what's the best question that you've been asked? The goal is to see the candidate's thought process, how they approach a problem, etc.
Please provide the answers (or at least the hints) too.
Answer: The old standby, "What can you bring to our Quality Assurance Program that others can't."
Question: I need some jobs that use technology? What are some jobs that use technology and please if you can list a site with information if you can't do that it is okay thanks for the suggestion. Question: Question about a class, need a mechical engineer's opinion.? I am a senior at the university of toledo and im pretty close to graduating. This past summer semester i had a laboratory class involving mechanics of materials and mechanical vibrations. I had took my vibrations class in summer of 2006 and did ok in it, but after taking the lab class, i realized that the teacher did not teach us anything useful. I was the only one in the class that didnt have a clue what was going on. I mean i had no idea what mode shapes were and how to solve problems involving them.
After taking this lab class and barely getting through with the vibrations part of it, ive started thinking that maybe i should go back and take the class again with a teacher that i know teaches the class well.
My question is, in your opinion, would this be a good idea, or a waste of time? I dont think i want to do design work when i finish school, nor do i want to do research and development. I kinda think i want to go into manufacturing or process engineering.
One of the reasons i ask is that if i take this class, it will be during my co-op semester and i will have to leave work a little bit earlier to get to this class, and some of my time at my job will be devoted to studying this class. Im not sure if it would be worth it or not. They say the work experience is much more valuable than the classes.
Answer: Don't re-take the class. I've had a lot of professors who didn't teach me anything, and I'm doing quite alright
You're correct about the co-op, that its MUCH more important than a vibrations class. It'll give you something good to talk about during interviews and such.
Besides, unless you're going into grad school for ME, you're probably never going to use vibrations, especially if you do manufacturing or process engineering.
Question: Is it easy to transfer from a engineering school within a college to the college of letters and science? I am currently a high school senior and am in the process of applying to college. I was thinking of going into biomedical engineering. If I decide that I no longer want to major in engineering while I am attending college, is it easy to transfer out of engineering and into the college of letters and science?
Thanks!
Answer: As stated before -- changing your major from Engineering to another major is easily accomplished. Usually it only involves filing an intent to change your major with the college of your choice.
The point about the professional/graduate degree for your new major and GPA is very well stated.
Another issue is that you will need to check the new major to see if there are certain General Education classes (classes taken in your first 2 years) that are specified for your new major. An example of this would be if you were transferring to Business -- some colleges give the choice between Economics or American Gov't -- Business might stipulate Economics be taken. When you change your major you will need to go to the course catalog for your new major to make sure you have the correct GED courses required by that major. If not, then those will be additional courses you will have to complete prior to graduation.
Question: Which of these courses should I take? I am a junior chemical engineering student who is looking to go into the process control engineering field. I am doing my senior project in this topic as well. I was wondering what engineering electives outside my major to take to complement my career interests.
My options are:
An electrical engineering course (I already have an intro to EE course)
A mechanics course (statics, dynamics)
Or something else outside my major.
Also, I was wondering if I should substitute the senior Unit Operations Lab course for one of the courses I mentioned above and take two electives outside my major instead of one
Answer: You could do chemistry - I don't how how difficult it might be.
Question: I am a senior IT Professional with 20 years experience. How to get a good placement ? • Around 20 years of Experience in IT Consultancy & Project Management with business domain knowledge in Financial Accounting, Materials Management, Production, Asset Management, Health Care Information and HRIS.
• In depth knowledge of business processes automation with skills in analysis, design, re-engineering, process rationalization, cost control, capacity planning, performance measurement.
•Hands on experience in modern concepts of end-to-end project planning and implementation from scope management to activity sequencing, effort & cost estimation, quality management and testing.
Answer: It is easy. Contact the top/reliable consultants or give advt on leading news paper.
Please don't post your resume in any of the Job sites. Then you will get lot of junk mails.
Question: Recruitment Process In Software Companies? I wanted to know the general proceedures of recruitment of fresh software engineers and senior positions on the technical side in software companies in India.
Answer: I don't think Indian Software companies have trouble finding well trained eager employees. They have a huge and growing pool of young, intelligent, multi lingual, and employable citizens. I believe eager applicants are beating a path to every company who will hire them. Why don't you look for a job in Silicon Valley or somewhere in the states?

Question: what type of entry level engineering jobs are good? I completed a BS in Mech. Eng. about 4 years ago. I was a better than average student, (3.0 my first few years, gained some ambition and had a 3.5 my last two, still in top 10% of my graduating class). Anyhow, I took a process engineering job 2 weeks out of school, not really what I wanted, but I had bills and didn't know how long it would take to get another offer. After two years I decided to go back to school to gain some more knowledge in the hope of getting a more engineering design based career, basically I want to design mechanisms, control systems, etc. not recommend them or contract the work out like I was doing as a process engineer.
Ok so now I am about to graduate and find myself in a similar position as I was 4 years ago, except I think I have a much better resume. For instance, I have a masters, I received an NSF fellowship (1 of 197 to receive award nationally), and have some actual professional experience. But after sending out a lot of resumes, all of my callbacks have been for the same type of jobs as before, process engineering, mainly at small companies where there is little chance of promotion.
So my question is, If I take another process engineering job, am I going to be typecast as a process engineer? Or will it be valuable experience, and help me to be considered for a more design based position later, with say another company.
By the way, my girlfriends dad works for a large technology conglomerate in a software division as a senior programmer (he had terrible grades in college, but had good networking in his early days 30 years ago, which I don't) and has told me before that I should look for a position that will help my career, not just a job. He has passed my resume to HR before, but they say there is nothing in their division for me.
Thanks for any comments
Answer: Look around and find a small company that need whatever type of engineer you want to be. A company of 10 to 20 would be about right, with two or three engineering positions. You will end up doing everything in engineering from soup to nuts.
After a couple of years have gone by one of two things will have happened. The first is, by your brilliant work, the company has grown, and you now are making the money, and have the title that you want. Else, you now have the needed experience and can go find the job you want with a different company.
