Question: Is it possible for an engineer to get to research in theoritical physics? If I study engineering in Electronics, do I have any prospects to get back to research in pure theoretical physics? If it is possible, please describe in detail...
Answer: Of course! Your degree in engineering might not give you the same background in theoretical physics as a physics degree might, but I've noticed that research labs really seem to appreciate the engineering approach to their work...
of course, all I have to substantiate this is the fact that I'm a recent grad in mechanical engineering who's had one internship in optics (mixture of applied and theoretical) and is now working at another internship in theoretical acoustics... neither one of these is particularly related to mechanical engineering but the opportunities were there and I took them.
It's not really possible to describe your prospects in detail - just keep an eye out for opportunities at your university and let people know you're interested in working for them! With good grade, a good attitude, and a good major (engineering!) you can go anywhere. Literally, anywhere. My optics internship was in Germany and the current one is in Spain!
Question: Open Research Assistant Positions for a Mechanical Engineer seeking a Masters? I'm a mechanical engineering undergraduate student graduating in the spring. I thought that this would be a good place to ask and see if there are any engineering professors out there that are seeking a research assistant.
Answer: Dude....this place, I highly doubt is frequented with profs from Academic arena.....most are busy enough not even to pay attention thr own students :(
If you want a decent position go to a contact concerned prof whose interest match yours and he might take you.... or else apply through job sites.... monster.com etc have many such positions.
Question: what kind of degree i need to become a software engineer and research scientist? and what other job i can get with that degree
i am only continuing my career till master
Answer: I work at IBM in their research lab. A degree in Mathematics is by far the best option. I'd guess that 90% of us have that. Remember, computers are to computer science is to what telescopes are to astronomy. It's not the computer you want to study to learn software engineering - it's math.
Question: I have research paper due next and i need a topic....What is a great computer engineer research paper question?
Answer: Google Bill Gates and read info about him for inspiration.
Question: What education do you need to become a computer software engineer in the research and deveopment industry?
Answer: besides the computer software courses, you will need courses in electronics
Actually the electronics courses are more important than the computer courses because that is where design and development comes from.
While it can be done with less than a college degree, very few companies will take the chance on hiring someone without one.
Question: Hi, i am a software engineer. I need to know how to get in to research fields in computer sciences? I am a Post Graduated Software Engineer & currently working in a MNC . I am interested to get into the research fields.
Any pointers or usefull info are welcomed
Answer: You can look at universities with graduate programs in your field. There are also national labs and ffrdc's such as Lawrence, Livermore, Los Alamos, Sandia, Lincoln, JPL, Ames etc that hire software engineers for research.
Question: What is the way that Computer Engineer can join the space research ? I am a software engineer working in an IT firm. Please suggest courses or exams.
Answer: Not sure what you mean by "space research". I wrote some of the software (in Ada) that is used to run the Space Station and that job requires that you be an embedded S/W engineer. There is also software to run the ground station, process telemetry, etc. Software used to control the experiments being run in the station and software to analyze data from the those experiments.
Again, it all depends on your defintion of space research.
Question: What kinds of organisms are ideally suited for genetic engineering research and why? What kinds of organisms are ideally suited for genetic engineering research and why?
Answer: Usually the organisms like E.coli.
1. Because culturing of these organisms is very easy.
2. They do not cause any adverse effect on human.
3. They have plasmids which can be used for cloning
purpose.
4. they can be multiplied within short period of time in the lab.
5. They express their activity by synthesizing desired
products in large scale etc.,
Question: I am Research Engineer interested in low cost housing I want to lower pemeability in earth construction? Soil stabilization for adobe blocks, roofing tiles
Soil stabilization can be with cement but it is costly for low cost housing, but there may be many other stabilizers used and tested which reduce the permiability of moisture in the adobe blocks and even in the tiles. I am interested in this for the society I am involved as a research in Tanzania where the housing conditions are very low
Which are the low cost soil stabilizers for adobe blocks/bricks? How can one increase the durability of adobe blocks/bricks without increasing the cost of its production?
Answer: what's the question? Good luck!
Question: How can I have an online undergarduate project in computer engineering (Research Nature) ? I am in desperate need of a project in computer engineering. It must be of research nature and online i.e. I can only do it online.
Answer: Do it on wireless networking. Theres a ton of stuff online. ie security, hardware, protocols, etc.
Question: Where can i find a mentor for a mechanical engineering research in the Westchester/NYC area? I am in a research program and i need to find someone who works in the field of mechanical engineering or one of its subfields. I need to find someone who can mentor me through research. Does anyone know a place or person that can lead me toward this? Even a website or contact info would be great. I am completely stuck and i need a boost on my searching.
Answer: arup in nyc... it's in soho. it's an engineering firm.
Question: What area should I research in biomedical engineering? I am doing a project on research biomedical engineering and I need to narrow down my topic to one area. I was debating between tissue engineering or the respiratory system. Anyone have any ideas or cool discoveries in either area!?
Answer: I could tell you but I'd have to kill you then.
Go for respiratory in this day of global pollution we need as much research as possible to keep up with increase in disease. And 10 outta 10 for doing research I HATE THE SUBJECT!!! But I know it's really necessary dirty job that someones gotta do.
Question: For one of my classes I have to research on a engineer that made a mistake. Do you know any engineers that...? Hi, I am writing a paper on a engineer that engineered something and it went wrong. so i am having trouble finiding engineers that made a big mistake to what ever they made. so it would help me if you can label their name and what they did wrong with
Answer: One of the worst civil engineering disasters of our time is the failure of the St. Francis dam in California. It is often studied in ethics classes because of the circumstances surrounding the failure. The engineer who designed the structure, William Mulholland, was a very successful and prominent engineer up until the time his dam failed. He would not let anyone review his work, because he thought nobody was qualified to review it, hence the reason for the teaching in ethics classes. He is a very good subject.
Question: What are current hot areas of research in software engineering field? I am a software engineering student and want to do some research in 3-4 months. what are some hot areas that are suitable in this situation. Thanks in advance for help
Answer: Process Improvement and Performance Measurement
Security
System Interoperability and Dependability
For more, I would suggest looking for what being published in software engineering related conference. Journals artilces require more time to get published and the subject may already have be replaced with another topics.
Question: wht should be the best job for a mechanical engineer in research areas?
Answer: There are no of scope for research work for a qualified Mechanical Engineer in India. You may go for research work in Defense Research Institute, Atomic Energy Research Institute, Glass & Ceramic Research Institute etc.
Question: What is a career in research and development like? One day in the life of a research scientist/engineer in electrical engineering. Pros, cons, lifestyle, salary.
Answer: It will depend on where you work. I have not worked in an educational setting, so, it may be different.
I worked for a company that was developing a new tool for offshore drilling. I worked in the field and it was my job to record conditions that the tool operated in when it worked and when it was broken.
I had the chance to visit our corporate HQ and met the design engineers. They were very bright. While there, I got to see some of the internal mechanics of the organization. The worst part of R&D is funding. It can be cut from you in a moments notice and you will be spending more time trying to find it. I realized when there that I was a sore thumb because I had a tendency not to sugar coat my opinions and tell things the way they were in front of the VP of the project. It nearly got me fired. This company had spent 10 years, 10Million dollars and were more or less the same stage they were the first year.
When the economy tanked, and funding was scarce, they had fired a technician (who was responsible for many of the improvements). When they did, he took his knowledge with him and he did not share the things he had not put in his notes-it set us back about 4 years. I told the VP this opinion and you could hear the breath go out of the room.
Anyway, I left our HQ and was nearly fired for being forthright. Our company eventually took the tool commercial because our competition had developed the same type of tool quicker. We did some spying and found out that they had subbed-out the development of the area where we were weak. So, our Board of Directors bought the company that developed our comp's electronics. It was a brilliant move in corporate espionage.
R&D is great. I loved it (even though I pooped in my wheaties and was never promoted after visiting corporate). I ultimately left the company for other reasons and miss it some. But, you never lose the mindset where you are always looking to improve on others modifications or striving to create new methods.
Me? I am the kind of guy that could look at a mousetrap and try to improve it, but am not the type that can build the first version.
