Question: Release Engineering is it a part of the Quality Assurance process, or separate? When it comes to software and hardware development there are several processes that are put in place to ensure a product gets to market successfully. Two of these processes are Release engineering and Quality Assurance. My question is where release engineering sits and why:
Is Release Engineering:
a: a subset of QA
b: owning a part of QA
c: in its own business having nothing to do with QA
Answer: Answer C
The "Release" comes from Design Engineering, those are the folks who write the specs, design the product (or outsource it from a vendor), make drawings of it, and do the tests (Design Validation) to be sure the product meets the customer's requirements. The Design Engineers make up the drawings and prints, to which the QA Department will run inspections. The QA folks assure that the product conforms to the specifications and drawings as prepared and released by Design. It's not that Design has nothing to do with QA, it's that both work together so closely that sometimes you can not tell who is on what side of the line. I say that Design Engineering writes the Release, but you ask who is "Release Engineering" so I think your company has names for groups that are a bit different from the ones I was in. That's OK. I guess your "Release Engineering" are people who make sure that the QA people are using the correctly "released" documents, and they could be part of either the QA staff or the Design Engineering staff.
Question: Looking for a job, can you help me to find one? I am a Mechanical Engineer here in Philippines, with experience in different areas of Semiconductor Manaufacturing. (Facility maintenance, equipment engineering, process engineering, quality assurance, production)
Answer: read the newspapers everyday. watch out for the job offers. just grab any one that comes in your way. or just go to the company and ask them for an interview.
Question: . How do an incremental process model and certification work together to produce high quality software? In your own words, describe the intent of certification in the clean room software engineering context.
Answer: www.qsm.com/sizing.pdf
Question: Re: Quality Engineering: Name some manufacturing processes and describe the control parameters.?
Answer: ok how bout a fermentation tank for the production of ethanol from malted barley. Making beer. This is just one step in a process
Possible control paremeters might be temperature, level of tank, o2/co2 content. These will parameters will have an effect on the output of the ethatnol
You would then control these parameters with some sort of manipulated variable.
Question: What's the role of a chemistry engineer? I'm currently studying the engineering basics', and I looked at chemistry engineering as a good option to take as an emphasis, but I don't know what they do in the production process and all. Would you tell:
What kind of things do they do in the production process?
In what kind of companies could they work?
Which kind of workplaces could they take in the company? (For example, and industrial engineering could be a quality manager)
Which kind of companies do they hire them?
Answer: chemical engineers often work at making new substances. an excellent example is DuPont. it is a huge chemical company that employs many chemical engineers who try to synthesize new materials, old examples are teflon and nylon. you could start off as a practicing engineer and be moved up into management, if that is what you're interested in. you would be hired by chemical companies, petroleum companies, or any company that deals with chemicals in a way that requires an engineer with a profound mastery of the subject.
(DuPont, 3M)
even so, an engineering degree is one of the best- since they are one of the hardest undergrad degrees, all companies look favorably at engineers- there are many engineering grads working in finance and business, often not directly connected to their specialty, but they use the analyzing skills of an engineer.
Question: how do we improve the quality of engineers?? in india (or may be in other countries too),engg. collleges act like mass production units.they produce many engg. per year but their quality is not to the mark. many do get recruited in final year but when they join companies they hav to undergo a training to make them compatible with industry demands.many are fired in this process.i am a3rd yr. eng. student.what shud students like us do so that we hav enough technical knowledge at this stage itself??
Answer: I have been dealing with a lot of engineering students and I think the quality of deterioration of engineering is because of two factors.
1) The pathetic standards of teaching in private colleges. it is to be noted here that the inumerous private colleges functioning in the country have staff with no corporate or industry background. They are not able to guide the students properly and inculcate an interest in the subject.
2) The quality of students especially in private institutions are again pathetic, not because they dont have the IQ, but more because they are there not because of a passion for the subject.
I am very sure that if the students have interest in the subject and wan to really contribute to the industry then there is no stopping. The industry will always want to train you, as what you learn in intitutions is theory, the working style varies with the companies... so training is essential.
why people are chucked out after training,....the sole reason is no committment towards work....
So dont worry..be committed and you will do well...

Question: Business Process Re-engineering: finding out value metrics? in searching net i found a formula like this. value=quality*service/cost*cycle time can u elaborate this so that i can apply this concept in each of my process to determine the value.?
Answer: The formula says that the value of the process is determined by:
(1) Quality - the impact of the process on the quality of the final product (Maximize)
(2) Service - the impact of the process on the service (quality) provided (Maximize)
(3) Cost - all the costs associated with the process (Minimize)
(4) Cycle Time - the average cycle time (the elapsed time from the start to the end) of the process
To use it, you will need to quantify the qualitative metrics such as, quality (which could be measured in terms of defects per million), and service (e.g. number of dissatisfied customers). You'll then need to determine the "value" of the current process, and the value of the re-engineered process to determine whether the new process is actually an improvement of the original based on these value metrics, and by how much it has improved. The higher the "value" obtained from the formula, the more valuable the process is to the organization, overall system, etc.
According to the article I've cited below, Business Process Re-engineering actually has 168+ value metrics that can be used to evaluate the value of a process for an organization. According to the article, these value metrics typically fall into 6 main categories: Safety, Cost, Motivation, Environment, Delivery, and Quality. So if there are other value metrics that may be useful in determining the value of the process (e.g. to the organization), it might help to include them in the formula to improve its "accuracy," (i.e. to better compare the value of the current process with the value of a re-engineered one).
Question: What is the best six sigma certification for a software project manager? I am a PMP certified Project Manager and looking for getting certification from ASQ. My core area of expertise is in software development life cycle. Please suggest me which Six Sigma certification should I opt for among the following offered by ASQ:
Biomedical Auditor (CBA)
Calibration Technician (CCT)
HACCP Auditor (CHA)
Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE)
Quality Inspector (CQI)
Quality Auditor (CQA)
Quality Engineer (CQE)
Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA)
Quality Process Analyst (CQPA)
Quality Technician (CQT)
Reliability Engineer (CRE)
Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB)
Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB)
Software Quality Engineer (CSQE)
Thanks
Answer: The Six Sigma Black and Green belt training can give you more opportunity based on the research I've done. I suggest looking at job opportunities in the paper or online and see what qualifications most are looking for and then base your decision on that more so on just what people tell you.
Good luck
Question: What's better between a Master and a MBA? Hello, I have a dilemma.
I'm an Industrial Engineer (focused on processes and quality) with a second degree on International Business. Working abroad for the last 4 years in a Multinational Company in the area of Logistics.
With my experience do I need to do an MBA? Or better to take a master in Supply Chain Management or Finance? I want to get further knowledge maybe to climb a bit more in the company or just to see if better creating my own company..
What's better then?
Answer: It's really up to you. An MSE will improve your pay, but an MBA will potentially help you make even more in Management. Furthermore, some BSE's are going to law school and making a killing. (JD)

I am an engineer, and speak fluent Spanish, but haven't been able to find a term translation (not word translation) of building commissioning. "Building Commissioning is quality-oriented process for verifying and documenting that facilities, systems and assemblies are designed, installed and operated as the owner intended" If anyone knows, please help me out.
Thanks!
Answer: It would be:
"Puesta en marcha del edificio" or
"Puesta en marcha de la obra"
