Question: Is this fair? $480/week salary for a civil engineer(project manager position) only lodging and car is provided? I am from the Philippines, a fresh graduate of Civil Engineering, no experience yet but is offered to go to Texas for a project manager position with that rate-$480/week, no contract, no benefits, only lodging and car is provided. I requested for a contract but he claims that in the US engineering companies dont give out contracts. Is this true? and is the rate fair?
I am from the Philippines, dual citizen both Filipino and American, a fresh graduate of Civil Engineering, no experience yet but is offered to go to Texas for a project manager position with that rate-$480/week, no contract, no benefits, only lodging and car is provided. I requested for a contract but he claims that in the US engineering companies dont give out contracts. Is this true? and is the rate fair?
Answer: That's about $25000 per year cash, which is not much; however a car and apartment together are worth (depending on location) $1000 to $1500 per month, for a total package of $35000 to $40000.
A project manager is not an engineering job. A job doing engineering would pay perhaps $50000-$70000; however American companies will not hire new-hire (no experience) engineers as engineers unless their degree is from an ABET-accredited university. They also will not usually sponsor non-residents (non green card holders) for immigration status. You have US citizenship, but probably not the accredited degree- you can check on this.
Of course right now jobs are not in high supply.
Temporary employees, also called contract labor, usually do NOT get a contract. They are, in fact, subject to dismissal without notice, because the direct staff (permanent staff) have first priority- the contract labor is there as a buffer to reduce hire and fire volatility with the permanent staff.
Question: Can a Civil Engineer with enough experience become a Project Manager? I am going for Bachelor in Civil Engineering but I would like to know if somewhere along the line can I become a Project Manager at a construction site?
Answer: Yes you can.
To increase your chances you should also consider getting your EIT and then PE as well as PMP. The EIT is engineer in training and the PE is a professional engineer. The PMP is a project management professional.
The EIT you should take your junior to senior year of college or once you graduate. To be eligible for the PE you must work under a PE for two years and then you can take a PE test. You can then be licensed in the state you receive your PE from.
The PMP is a certificate for Project Management Professional. Typically you will need 2 years experience to be eligible to take the PMP and you are required to take some sort of training. You don't need a PMP to be a PM on a construction site, but it can't hurt and will serve as a useful certificate.
Question: 10 pOINTS how much do civil engineer project managers in london earn????
Answer: What sort of salary do graduate civil / environmental engineers get paid?
Again, quite a variety. At the time of writing (2007), the students who most recently went into jobs with civil and environmental engineering consultancies were being offered salaries in the 24-26K range. Of course they would expect this to increase upon becoming chartered.
This is all I could find. Good luck!
Question: How might a project manager assist groups of professionals from different disciplines to work in real teams?? Question: Any tips for recruiting in the Great Lakes area? Looking for civil engineering personnel? My company is in the Seattle area and we'd like to recruit people from the Great Lakes area, specifically Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. We are a civil engineering firm looking for Designers, EITs, land surveyors, project managers, etc. I'm looking for resources other than monster, careerbuilder, and craigslist.
Thanks!
We're mainly targeting the Great Lakes area because there's a higher percentage of good people there looking for work. Seattle would be a great place to move to. Thanks for the advice on universities! I'll check it out.
Answer: It is slim picking out there.
I had been searching for Civil Engineers for my firm for months. I finally found a couple last month, one EIT who replied to an ad I placed at the local university, and a PE who I found at ASCE Career Connections. I had almost hired a professional recruiter after I received only 6 or 7 resumes in 3 months.
Good Luck!
Question: I am a civil engineer with exp.which management course is best for me? I am a civil engineer with post graduation and 17 years exp.includind Gulf experience.Presently I am working as Project manager in a civil engineering co at Dubai. Now I want to do some Management course to enhance my skills ,please advice which course suits me
Answer: At the high end, you many want to consider doing an MBA program. Most schools will allow you to work and still take the classes (may take up to 3 years). If time/work permits, you can also do this full time. Also, you need a good GPA and MCAT score to apply to the program. Some employers "may" pay for you to do this, especially if there is an expectation for you to be in a future management position. For reference, here is UC Berkeley's MBA program:
http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/theberkeley…
A more moderate idea would be to consider a business administration certificate or certificate in management. Less intensive than an MBA, and not as strict entrance requirements. As an example, here is a couple certificate programs offered at UC Berkeley:
http://www.unex.berkeley.edu/cert/
At the low end is to consider taking at a community college or university extension business/management related course. You can use the curriculum of a MBA or certificate program as your model. This may be the easy option, but it does not give you a degree or certificate that you can add to your resume.
Personally, I am considering the moderate approach in the future. Your local community college has a certificate program that you can take.
Question: Looking to recruit construction project managers and superintendents.? I've got to find people to go to work fast or my company is going to close our division. Does anyone know what I can do to find constructions companies that need employees and really high quality employees who want to go to work? I work with project managers, superintendents, estimators, civil/mechanical/electrical engineers. So far 95% of my clients are ENR Top 400 general contractors or ENR Top 500 design firms.

Question: Does anyone have a CIVIL ENGINEERING CDR which accepted by australia? I am civil engeener, and I am a QA/QC Manager in Oil and Gas projects.
I am preparing to write a CDR report for Engineers Australia's assessment. I would be glad if I could be directed to where I can get some examples which accepted by australia.
Answer: What is CDR means? Okey, once you are a duly registered and licensed Civil Engineer, there is no doubt that you will not be accepted in Australia. Australia as far as I know, are only accepting licensed professionals to be employed in that country. They have this very strict requirements & tedious screening for the applicants. Those who are only having associate course in engineering or some called diploma course (but called themselves "engineer"?) will have a hard time to be accepted.
Question: Anyone know of Civil Engineering job openings in Guadalajara, Mexico? I am a project manager considering moving down there.
Answer: Are you fluent in Spanish and have an extensive resume. If so an American company might transfer you there. Otherwise you need to go down and look !!!
