Question: looking for a mechanical engineer to design a prototype of a product I want to patent and sell.? I have a product idea that I want to build a protoype for. It requires a mechanical engineer to design. I need a firm or individual to create a working blueprint for a prototype.
Answer: It's possible that you don't need a mechanical engineer to design your prototype. I would look for some one who has experience designing parts for you specific product. For example, I am not a mechanical engineer, but I design plastic parts for several industries. I frequently have engineers come to me to design their parts. I have over 20 years in the injection mold building and mold making industries and currently own my own company doing both. I do seek the advice of engineers some times also. It may be that you only need a draftsman or CAD designer. I work with inventors quite frequently, I usually end up designing their parts, tooling and producing their product. If your product is electronic in nature you may need some one who specializes in that field. Medical, may require a different skill set. Feel free to contact me or look at my site you may find some answers there.
Question: how the marketting engineer convince customer to buy his product? conversation between a marketting engineer and a customer for convincing to buy his product.
Answer: Marketing Engineers very rarely convince consumers to buy products, that task is left to an organization's direct/indirect sales force. TMEs do help the direct sales force, however through any of the following efforts:
- Evangelizing the product or solution to customers, partners and the press
- Creation and delivery of product demonstrations and presentations
- Supporting the direct sales force through a combination of meetings, presentations, assistance with RFPs or solution architecture
And the list goes on.

Question: Can I start a career as a mechanical/product engineer/designer at age 41? I am 41 years old and want to finally get a job I enjoy, so I would like to hear from preferably qualified people and get some advice about this kind of work. I don't know much about the field other than it is one of the few things I feel strongly that I have a talent and desire to do.
I'm a bit of a failure in the computing field because my heart just isn't in it. I started it for money now feel like it has trapped me there because I'd have to start at the bottom level again with a new career. I am prepared to do this now. I dont want to die wondering.
All my life I constantly find my self looking at objects of all types and admiring or analysing the way they have been made, how they achieve the job they were intended to perform for the given price bracket they were intended.
If I see an item that doesn't do the job very well I find myself daydreaming about how I could improve it or make a better one from scratch.
I see day to day problems that could so easily be made easier by an invention of some sort. I find myself building this machine in my mind, honing it, perfecting it.
I find it difficult to turn these thoughts off sometime but actually I dont want to. I love it.
So.. After all that preamble, my question is.. At the age of 41, not overly good at maths but able to turn my hand to it if I had to, What is the best job/way to satisfy this urge and the quickest route to working in this kind of field that I could take.
I dont know much about what person performs the functions I mentioned, is it the Engineer? or designer? or Steve Jobs / Dean Kamen type that might dictate his idea and pass it to other people to actually implement their inspired ideas into reality??
I am not so interested in the actual implementing side, I like the idea's/researching their validity/efficiency/practicality/ease of use / fit for purpose etc etc. I also see them in great detail but would prefer to be the one who passes this concept to others to map out in technical form.
What job is this? does it exist? do I need loads of qualifications/degrees etc?/ what is some short courses/quals that might help me get a foot on the ladder or get attention..
Ideally I would like to work on projects and not just a 9-5 type job. I dont mind doing long hours but flexibility is important to me more than reliable hours.
I dont want to go and do another 4 year degree but am quite happy to study part time on a permananent basis.
Thank you so much for your help.
P.S. If you are familiar with the Myers-Briggs personality types, I am an INTP. From what I have read this makes me a suitable type of personality to do this kind of work. INTP's are good at producing/working with ideas in their heads, but dont get the satisfaction from actually implementing the ideas if they can be proven to work in our heads..
I have spent 4 years of my life studying computers and I don't wish to continue working with computers (in purely IT roles at least) but do realise some of those skills are usefull in other fields such as this kind of field.
I want to be primarily designing stuff though, not supporting the computers of those who do.

Answer: Why don't you do some CAD courses with your computer knowledge as a lot of Design Engineering is done this way, Ergonomics or Human Factors is also a good place to start designing and seeing a project through to fruition. Most mathematical formulas are done by computer now so Maths isn't as important as it was but there are a lack of good Draughtsmen, hand sketchers in the Engineering World. I can't see why not. I'm still learning new things at 44 and have moved from Electrical Engineering to Quality processes recently. ps. I'm also a INTP

Question: What do people do in product design meetings? Hi, I'm tasked to come up with a projector-based application to help engineering product designers in their meetings. But first I've gotta know what they do or discuss in their meetings. Anyone care to share their experiences?
Answer: They should represent problems, ideas and solutions. they show pictures, renderings, samples, models, plans and handy drawings. they gather to talk about why problem exists and how can over come it. they need chairs, tables, papers, pens and of course lots of coffee.
tell them first: cell phones off, no cigarettes please.

A. male

Answer: A
Question: what is the difference between Product Engineer & Process Engineer?
Answer: Product engineers design whatever product is to be made. For example they would determine how thick a plastic soda bottle would need to be in order to hold a carbonated beverage and not burst when dropped from 6 feet, etc. A process engineer would develop the system that actually produces the bottle (designing the mold for maximum speed and efficiency and lowest cost, figuring out how to most economically put labels on the bottles, etc)
Question: what is a product engineer all about? what do they do? what is their job scope?
Answer: A product engineer? It depends, obviously, on the company, but by the large they design products. They are given a set of goals that a product they are to design has to meet by someone (usually the marketing department, occasionally the customers.)
Once they get that set of goals/benchmarks, they have to demonstrate that they have a good concept, a good design, a working design, and then a selling design. If those demonstrations fail, most companies will kill the product before they lose more money on it. If the product keeps meeting the goals and demonstrating that it works as ordered, then the product keeps on going. Eventually it gets sold and the product engineers work on fixing problems that pop-up in the market with the product or they get sent to do new things. General turn-around time for these sorts of products is about 18 months (i.e. from the time you get a list of requirements to the time that the thing hits store shelves.)
Product engineers are pretty much always working for non-engineers. They generally are in the electrical, computer, or mechanical fields. Civil engineering doesn't generally lend itself to product design.
Question: what is the job of product support engineer?
Answer: Since (most) Sales people have no clue about engineering, and (most) Engineers are lousy sales people, many companies which sell technical items have product support engineers.
Have a look at these job descriptions:

Question: What is a good movie to motivate/inspire an engineering/product team? The team is faced with lofty expectation from senior management - problem is opposite of that in "Miracle in Ice" where US hockey team had low expectations
Answer: OK first what???? next it's better to read.
