Question: how can i become a good planning engineer for oil & gas projects? I am a Planning Engineer for An Engineering Company serving the Oil & Gas Sector & I want to know what is the carachtaristics of the ideal planning engineer to evaluate & develop my self.
Answer: Learn CPM and Pert. Learn to read the drawings well especially the piping diagrams, etc. Go back in the record section and find out how the company is carrying on with their planning strategy effectivly. Attend seminars on Planning and Developments, etc. Good luck. Try and get notes from IIMs if you have any friends. All IIMs are very good planners.

Question: What is the work of a commissioning Engineer in a Gas/oil business? I am working in a manpower staffing and one of my customer who are engage in Gas/Oil business (production and distribution) is looking for a Commissioning Engineer.
I have a prospect already and I need to conduct a pre-interview. Through this I need a basic detail function or job responsibility of a Commissioning Engineer for questioning to verify that the personnel is qualifued for the job.
Thank you for your support.
Best Regards,
Pres__
Answer: A commissioning engineer can be involved in several aspects of getting a new or revised facility ready for operations.
They can prepare check out procedures for equipment, piping, electrical, instrumentation, systems etc.
They can be involved in the actual check out of the facility and after it is deemed ready for operation, help in the start up and debugging of the various equipment and systems.
In some cases they can also be involved in the training of individuals who might operate and maintain the facility.
I have done this job many times and I find it to be interesting, challenging, rewarding and a lot of fun.
It takes an individual with a wide back ground in all aspects of engineering. Not an expert but someone who knows enough to get the job done and get help from others when their knowledge is not sufficient.
Question: Oil and Gas engineer or Land surveyor ? Hi, I'm looking for a more lucrative career from a financial adviser and have come up with these 2 options.
I'm wondering if anyone could give me any information about mainly what type of money each of these would expect with a few years experience and beyond, also does anyone know what the business potential is in such occupations.
Any info is greatly appreciated,
Ike
Answer: I am glad to help you. If I understand you correctly: you want to leave the finance industry and move to either be a land surveyor or an oil and gas. I'll move on to say you are a smart person because to me its seems like you have done some research and found that these two careers are always gonna be in demand.
my personal suggestion:
I am a pipeline engineer from a family of 4 engineers and a pharmacist....my younger sister graduated with masters degree in oil and gas engineering and is currently making $120,000 b/4 bonuses. I will ask that you look more into oil and gas becuase its one of the best paid careers today due to the everlasting demand for oil. The oil and gas industry will take you all over the world (if you wish to go) just like pipelines have taken me to all the continents on this planet. Oil and gas a very exciting world and you will discover that not only will you make a fortune there but you will build a network in that field within your first yrs of working that will beneft your family and friends who may want to follow behind.
A good recommendation is a school in europe:
UNIV OF ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND (good for masters degree- write down for future)
I HOPE THIS HELPED - NEED MORE INFO?
PLS EMAIL ME OR ASK ANOTHER QUESTION...GOODLUCK IN UR CAREER.
Question: What technical college offers training for field engineer in oil and gas industry? I live in Louisiana and looking for somewhere close to here! Thanks.
Answer: The best method to find out info is to find a student. You can start looking for contact information for Louisiana colleges here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/Louisiana… Students always seem to know what's going on better than outsiders since they spend so much time on campus.

Question: oil and gas engineer? how much would one be paid is they are a oil and gas engineer , would they be up around the same money as a mining engineer , would there be lots of chances for jobs and travel
Answer: As a petroleum engineer you could expect to make anywhere around $66,970 to $111,910 depending where you work. As a Mining engineer you could expect to make somewhere from $56,420 to $88,080 depending on where you live. Please take into account that these all averages and it is possible to make a lot more or a bit less than what I have listed. Assuming that you live in the US, you would probably travel about the same as you would if you were to pursue a mining degree. As for jobs it would depend on how well you did in school, your experience, ect. Although you have to take into account that you would probably need to get some advanced degrees for either subject to be making the big bucks and traveling a lot. In fact my friend's dad has a PhD in Petroleum engineering and 3 other subjects and he travels a lot and is pretty well off.
Question: Ship Engineer to Oil and Gas work? Hi,
I am thinking ahead, but I am about do begin a cadetship with a cruse line company to become an Engineering Officer. I am wondering if down the line I will be able to try a change of work and gain employment in the Oil and Gas Industry?
Answer: Yup, i'm currently based on a semi submersible drilling unit in Nigeria and at any one time we carry a total of 7 mechanics/engineers. That's a total of 14 employed on board (month on / month off with crews working back to back). About 50% are mechanics employed straight into the driling industry but the other 50% came from either Merchant Navy or the shipping industry. A Cadetship will give you a good solid Engineering background with the opportunity to advance ultimately to the rank of Chief Engineer. Our Engineers onboard are currently earning around 80K per annum with bonuses and the Chief Engineer probably about 100K. Also with the oil industry booming just now and most drilling companies building many new drillships, semis and jackups there is lots of work out there.
Question: If you are a new hire engineer in Petrochemicals or Oil&Gas in the USA, what was your starting salary? The highest I have heard was 67K for a 2006 graduate.
Answer: Salaries vary depending on many factors. To find more accurate salary data you can try www.bls.gov, monster.com ,salary.com or PayScale.com. You will find that jobs like these are negotiable when it comes to salary.More information, tips and help at http://moreaboutsalary.blogspot.com/
