Question: How much do nuclear engineers make and where is a good college in iowa to go to to become a nuclear engineer? I am looking into becoming a nuclear engineer and i was wondering how much they make and where are some good colleges to go to in iowa. I've heard Iowa State University is a good engineering school but i wanted to see if there are any better schools in Iowa.
Answer: There is a very high demand for nuclear engineers, at this time far exceeding the supply. This makes for a very competitive market, starting salaries of $50-$90K with senior engineers making well over $100K. There are many grants, scholarships and intern programs being developed by nuclear organizations in an attempt to increase the number of students entering the nuclear field. I have attached some links to lists of colleges which offer nuclear engineering, scholarships and pay estimates. You can start a general engineering degree (like mechanical engineering) and then get into a nuclear graduate program or there is plenty of work for non-nuclear engineers in the nuclear industry.
Good luck!
Question: Nuclear engineer!? I just started community college of Philadelphia and i wanted to
know somethings, here are the following questions i would like answered.
What classes should i take?
What is the average salary of a NE with 2 years experience?
Is the job in demand, do the world really need Nuclear engineers?
How many years does it take to become one?
Thank you to whom ever answers my questions
Peace!
Answer: Entry level salary is $44,326. I don't know it with 2 years of experience. The field has no growth and not many people want to get into it. It'll take about 4 years to become one. Make sure your classes from the CC transfer to whatever four year school you go to afterward.
The last link has MIT's requirments for Nuclear engineering
Question: How many years of school are required to become a nuclear engineer? I think ive decided on becoming an engineer of some kind. Math and science are my passions so i figured why not nuclear engineering. But how many years will i have to go to school? I just graduated high school and I'm going to go to a community college. Then after that I'm assuming ill have to go to a college of some kind specially for nuclear engineering? Any help would be great thanks!
Answer: Hooray for nuclear engineers! The more of you there are, the more chances we have of actually moving towards nuclear power...
It depends on where you go, but you should be able to get a degree in nuclear engineering after 4 years of study. Starting at a community college could add a year, though. There are several universities in the nation that offer nuclear engineering - I'm familiar with Kansas State's program, which actually is a mechanical engineering degree with nuclear option. (Nuclear and mechanical are very closely related - the nuclear option means your electives are concentrated in nuke and not other areas of mechanical - no extra courses). I'm sure other universities do it a little differents.
Any more questions feel free to email - the world is always in need of more engineers!
Question: What makes more a nuclear engineer or a pharmacist? I cannot decide on the career i am looking for, either a pharmacist or a nuclear engineer, who gets paid more and how hard is it to get into these two different careers?
Answer: Obviously nuclear engineer get the highest pay due to the risk of the job. Pharmacist though is also a rewarding career. Just see the link below for more details.
Question: What do I major in to be a nuclear engineer? My university unfortunately doesn't have a nuclear major. They have every other engineer type of major. What would be the most compatible discipline, so I can become one? Also is it true they make the most out of all engineer jobs.
Answer: Wow I'm astounded in the lack of knowledge written below in this subject, and don't take the insult from the person that says you know nothing it is a very good question. Usually Mechanical Engineering is the route that most people take. It really depends on what you want to do with nuclear power. Researchers are usually have a PHd in Physics, and in some cases you would rather have an electrical engineering degree and if you wanted to work with radiological controls and reactor coolant and secondary system chemistry for corrosion control and so forth you could do chemical engineering. If you just want to operate in the plants none of these are necessary you just need a nuclear engineering technology degree or a propulsion plant watch supervisor qualification in the US Navy. There are several answers to this question based on what you want to do in the field. If you want more detailed advice E-mail me at jonathan46000@yahoo.com
Question: Is there a website that i can chat to a nuclear engineer? For a project i need to interview a nuclear engineer and it must be someone in the feild not someone training to become a nuclear engineer. Also it can be a retired nuclear engineer or a professor with experience.
Answer: you can do it on yahoo answer.
Go for CR4 forum.
Wikki answer is another option.

Question: Is it hard getting a job for nuclear engineer? I just wanted to know if it was really hard to get a job as a nuclear engineer because im thinking of majoring in this field, but i dont want to be looking for jobs for weeks, so i just wanted to know, is it a good idea to become a nuclear engineer or any engineer at the fact?
Answer: No, it is not hard getting a job for a nuclear engineer. Right now, my company has been looking to hire two nuclear engineers for over two years and no one has accepted our offers. (Maybe we need to cough up a few more dollars?)
Anyway, getting a job as an engineer depends more on your ability to get the job done. Getting through school depends on your intelligence and your ability to get your homework done and pass exams. In the real world, getting and keeping a job depends on your ability to make something happen. Far too often, really smart people will get jobs in technical fields and then spend all day analyzing data and obtaining more data, but never actually accomplishing anything. This kind of attitude is a major obstacle to getting and keeping a job.
Please also keep in mind that being a nuclear engineer is a huge amount of paperwork that college doesn't necessarily prepare you for. I have been a nuclear engineer for over 17 years and the highest level math I have ever used on the job is algebra and trigonometry. So, in school you will learn how to do linear algebra, three dimensional integral calculus and vector calculus, but you probably won't use that information in your job. Instead, you will find yourself explaining physics and chemistry to english majors and history majors because they control the budgets.
Good luck.
Question: Does the Marine Corps have an MOS for a nuclear engineer? I'm currently working on a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering. I've heard many great things about the Navy's nuclear program, and I want to attempt to become an officer in the military. I've wanted to be in the Marine Corps for quite some time, but I don't know what I can offer the Marine Corps with nuclear engineering. Is there a place for a nuclear engineer in the Marine Corps?
Answer: I'm really just guessing, but the Navy would probably assign you to one of it's programs anyway, even if you became a Marine officer. There is a lot of intergration between these two services anyway. Marine and Navy pilots serve together aboard carriers. There are many instances where both services meld together.
The fact is, the Marine Corps is part of the Navy, so it's not unusual for two to work together. The fact is, the Marine Corps probably does not have nuclear engineering programs whereas the Navy certainly does have them.
Question: can i do PhD in Nuclear after mechenical engineer? i am planning to go in nuclear engineering, but not many universities offer nuclear program. so can i do BS in mechanical engineering and then PhD in nuclear.
Answer: I have a BS in NucE.... I think ME and NucE go together incredibly well. You should not go to the same university for grad school and undergrad - that is considered intellectual incest. Instead, choose your ME school. Once you are there, pick your grad school.
Question: What Are The Hours For A Nuclear Engineer? I Am Just Wondering About The Hours And Wages For A Nuclear Engineer? And What There Daily Jobs Are? I Was Also Wondering If They Get Paid , While Their Training? ( If There Is Training)!!!!!
Answer: usually around 120,000 50 hrs a week, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytfXSW3eQ…
