Question: environmental engineer? im confused i have always wanted to be an environmental engineer but i have been researching it a bit and i am kind of steering away from it. i want to work with actual animals. but not a vet. i want to be outside. it doesnt matter about weather (hot cold) i just want to be with animals. i have a while to decide but i want to get a little ahead. i want to go to college then join the peace core then persue my career. like i said i dont want to be studying animals. i want to be with the animals. and nothing like a zoo keeper err anything. any career suggestions?
Answer: Zoologist, but environmental engineer would be better for you in the long run with regards to job stability.
Question: Are most environmental engineer jobs just filling out paperwork? I'm planning on becoming an environmental engineer but many of the environmental engineering jobs I've been hearing about are mostly consisted of paperwork. I know there are jobs out there that aren't all paper work but would there be a good chance that if I become an environmental engineer I'll be stuck with job where I'm in an office doing paper work almost all the time?
Answer: The source links I posted below should help you.

Question: How to start as an Environmental Engineer in the London area? I am really disappointed - everybody talks about recycling yet here I am with a degree and I can't get a job. I know as an Eastern EuropeanI can start on a senior level (and man, I am keen on an administrator position just let me start it!), but even for junior positions they expect 2years experience!
I have 1 year experience in waste management (project work, not UK based).
I phoned recycling companies and they wouldn't recruit without an agency (but wouldn't tell the name of the agency).
Councils go through the job centre, but I can't apply for jobs in Ealing if I live in Wandsworth.
Do you know an agency I should contact?
Are you an Environmental Engineer in waste management and have some ideas or tips?
In London.
For someone who gained a degree in another European country.
Do you know an agency?
Are you an agent?
I am all ears to suggestions, pleaseeeee!
Many thanks
Answer: I am not in waste management, nor overseas. But to garner an entry level position in the US is as easy as looking up companies in the yellow pages "Environmental Consultants" or "Engineers Environmental".
Using career builder.com (I do not think they list the UK), search Enviromental and go from there.
You will need to find the most popular job listing site for the UK and go there.
Question: How do I become an environmental engineer? What degree should I get? Do I need to attend environmental engineering program after 4 years in college?
I don't know about this field, so can you arrange what I have to do in order to be an environmental engineer?
Finally, how is the job competition? Do they earn lots of money?
Thanks! have a great day!
Answer: Very good choice....Environmental Engineering is a very hot field.....there are more Environmental Engineering jobs than there are people with degrees. So you will be in high demand
Im guessing your a high school student
Make sure your Math, Physics, skills are very strong
First you have to go to a 4 year school majoring in Engineering. Employers want Civil or Environmental Engineering degrees.
In the your last semester of your last year of school you qualify to take the FE
The FE is an exam taken by engineering students.....upon passing the exam you get the EIT.....the EIT is a certification that all engineer should and must take.
After 4 to 7 years of experience depending on your state you qualify to take the PE.....The PE is a major certification engineers need to practice engineering...its stands for Professional Engineer
Engineering is a very good field.....this is a very challenging degree to achieve ...so be prepared to wirk hard
Pay:
pay really varies from state and size of company you work for
on the average:
Entry Level Environmental Engineer usually start around 50K...depending how hard you work after years of experience....u can make in the 100K's
Question: What exactly does an environmental engineer do? I know what an engineer is, but what is an environmental engineer?
Answer: I have studied an environmental engineering module at University and basically being an environmental engineer involves asessing and managing the effects of humans and other activities on the man made and natural environment.
A lot of work includes waste management for local authorities, reclamation of land, the implications of it any impacts it could cause and any safety issues involved, and also pollution control and alternative fuel sources and power generation.
Question: What types of work do you do as an environmental engineer? I am especially interested in responses from environmental engineers. I am trained as an electrical engineer, but I have been looking at making a career path change. I am still relatively young and would consider returning to school full time.
Answer: I'm an environmental engineer, and I really love what I do. Env. engineers can do a wide range of things - you can deal with hazardous waste, air and water quality, groundwater remediation, solid waste landfills, etc. You can be involved more on the regulatory side or more towards the construction side. I got interested in hydraulics and wastewater treatment when I was in college, so that's what I went into. I work for a Federal agency now, and I design water and wastewater systems. I also get to work on the construction management side too, and it's really satisfying to see the things you design actually get built. If any of that sounds interesting and you go back to school, consider the U.S. Public Health Service's Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program. Good luck!
Question: How can an environmental scientist or engineer benefit the ministry of defence? Some of the working places of environmental engineer:
* engineering consulting firms that design and construct air and water pollution-control systems,
* industries that need to treat their air or wastewater discharges,
* private and municipal agencies that supply drinking water,
* companies that treat and dispose of hazardous chemicals,
* companies that operate treatment facilities for municipalities or industries,
* government agencies that monitor and regulate waste discharges,
* universities that teach and conduct research on environmental control,
* private and government laboratories that develop the new generations of pollution-control systems,
* international agencies that transfer knowledge and technology to the developing world, and
* public-interest groups that advocate environmental protection.
Answer: The big area of help is at military bases. Bases are just cities own by the government. I'm answering this based on the USA. Look at your list which I reproduce here in a little different form:
* design and construct air and water pollution-control systems,
* need to treat their air or wastewater discharges,
* supply drinking water,
* treat and dispose of hazardous chemicals,
* operate treatment facilities
* monitor and regulate waste discharges,
* conduct research on environmental control,
* develop the new generations of pollution-control systems,
* agencies that transfer knowledge and technology to the developing world,
All of the above apply to large military bases. On a base the engineers have to serve in all those capacities.
* public-interest groups that advocate environmental protection.
Also, government military agencies fund research that looks at all aspects of the environment. This requires experts to oversee these projects, so even that last one is involved.
When you start talking overseas deployment you get into things like reconstructing facilities that have been destroyed.
Question: What do I have to do in order to become an environmental engineer? If I major environemtal engineering and graduate after 4 years, what should I do next to become an environmental engineer?
Do I have to go to engineering program? How long is it? is it necessary?
So let's suppose that I got bachelors degree when I am 23. Then can I get a job as an environmental engineer right away?
Answer: To become an environmental engineer you need to get your B.S. in environmental engineering at 4-year university.
I'm guessing you aren't in college yet. Throughout the four years that you spend getting your B.S. you will find a field within your study that will interest you and once you do that a job is easy to find. There are many industries in which environmental engineering is becoming necessary, especially centered around issues like groundwater pollution, waste water treatment, global warming, hydrology... the list goes on. There are also a lot of jobs in the legal world concerning CEE's (civil and environmental engineers) because they are needed to testify in court cases or as consultants.
You may want to look at schools you are interested and find out what the professors there are researching or working on. Its never too early.
No matter what kind of engineering field you go into you will find a job. I happen to be 3rd year in civil engineering (emphasis in hydrology). I don't suggest you take the advice of the others who posted. Unlike the thousands of jobs that are dissipating the demand for CEE's is always going to exists. There are a lot of problems in our world that need solving on a small and large scale and even a bad economy wont change that.
Good luck, study hard and just figure out what interests you.
Question: Can you only be an environmental engineer if you have a degree in Environmental Engineering? Can you be an environmental engineer with a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or Environmental Biology?
Answer: Most likely not. The Environmental Science curriculum isn't going to require that many mathematics and physics courses. For example, at my school, Environmental Science students need only a year of calculus. However, Bioenvironmental Engineering students need two years of calculus.
If you desire to become an environmental engineer, you could major in an environmental science discipline and then complete a graduate degree in Environmental Engineering.
Also, sometimes civil engineers may work in jobs related to environmental engineering since the two fields are very similar.
