Question: Any Electronic Engineering Technologist can tell me about their experiences of their career? I would like to know more deep about electronic engineering and electronic engineering technology. Will I receive equal employment? Are those two degrees almost the same? What are their differences? If you are an Electronic engineer or technologist engineer or knew somebody, please tell me your experiences.
Answer: I am currently an electrical engineer, but have a degree in electrical engineering technology. Some companies will differentiate between the two and others will not. I love my job. It depends on where you work or what specialty you entail. I, for example, design industrial controls. I also do some PCB level designs. I do a lot of PLC programming to do several different functions. As far as schooling goes, the two different degrees are noticeably different. The full blown engineering degree requires much higher levels of math. It focuses more on theory and derivations of how things are solved. The technology more or less tells you how to do something and then you do it. For example, in EE you may derive a formula for power and then use it. In EET you will basically be given the formula for power and then apply it. For me, this was better.
Question: Engineering technologist? Hey guys, I've been considering getting a degree in MET (Mechanical engineering technology).
I know what an MET is, but before I make any decisions I just wanted to ask what specific jobs are available in the field at what salaries.
Thanks guys, who ever answers best (and maybe with a source?) will get the best answer.
Answer: Being an Engineer is a very rewarding career, you will be the "go to guy" whenever there's a problem. I've always wanted to be an Engineer and I couldn't imagine being anything else.
Question: What's the difference between an engineering technician and an engineering technologist?
Answer: technician - blue collar, executes the work technologists design.
technologist - white collar, researches, experiments, designs the technology used by the engineering field
Question: what is the average salary for a electrical engineering technologist?
Answer: the avg salary for a engineering technologist is about $40,000. a few thousand less than engineers. it also depends on the size of the company, area of the country, your gpa, internships, etc. and yes there is a such thing as an engineering technologist. they fall between the engineer and technician. engineering technologists have 4 yr bs degrees in et (chemical, electrical/electronics, computer, mechanical, industrial, civil, biomedical, etc) eng technologist are more hands on than engineers. i graduated with a electronics engineering technology from college in '99 but i never used it.
Question: Computer Engineer VS Computer Engineering Technologist? Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has stated a difference.
Has anyone experienced this difference?
Please expand.
Answer: in canada we have college and university
technologists go to college and typically earn less money (not always)
ENGINEERS however go to a university (four year program) and end up with an accreditation, a ring, and after 4 years of work regonition as a professional engineer.
for example, you will not be managing a team of engineers after working 20 years as a technologist, whereas that door is open to you as an Engineer.
Question: Electrical Engineering Technologist Vs. Electromechanical Engineering Technologist? In todays economy what is more in demand where jobs are concerned?
What is the level study difficulty for each of these?
Best known Colleges in Canada Ontario for these programs?
Thanks..
Answer: Well I've never seen a job title containing Engineering Technologist so I'd guess about equal demand, none.
Generally there will always be more jobs for electrical engineers than electromechanical engineers but then there will also be more people applying for them, not an issue of you're good at the work, more of an issue if you're not.
Some people will find one subject easier, other will find it the other way around, it just depends how you think certain types of problems through.
If the difficulty of the degree course is one of your key considerations when deciding which subject to study then engineering probably isn't a good area for you to be looking at to start with.
Question: what does an electical engineer technologist do? after receipt of your 3 yr diploma what exactly would your job entail? are they in demand in canada? what is the pay like?
Answer: electrical engineering is a very broad field with many areas of specialization. a technologist's job would depend on what particular area it is in.
Question: Typically, an engineering technologist would foucus on what? A. research
B. complex analysis
C. product improvement
D. conceptual design
Answer: D. conceptual design. They would work with an engineer and perform some calculations on their own to develop a concept into something solid.
I know because I work with one who is very skilled at what he does. As an engineer I consider him a peer, not beneath my skills. While I do more complex analysis than he does, he creates more working objects than I have the skills to do. In our case we both perform research, though I sometimes help work through the technical details.
Question: which are better?engineering or engineering technologist?
Answer: Engineering is what qualifies you to be an engineer... engineering tech is what qualifies you to work for an engineer. Which is better? I suppose it depends on which you'd rather do.
Question: Any tips to help my discouraged hubby find work as an Electrical Engineering Technologist / Technician? My hubby has been laid off from work since X-Mas. He made a career change in '04, went to school for 3 1/2 yrs - studying electrical engineering technology, found a job four months after graduating and was laid off 8 months later. He has spent the last 4 months searching every job site he can find - including hydro companies, etc. He has applied to dozens of jobs and not one interview.
Supposedly the baby-boomers are to be retiring and lots of jobs are to be expected. This is why hubby chose this field of employment. That was 4 years ago. Still nothing?
Not to brag, but he did graduate with honours. I find it such a shame that his intelligence is being wasted. He is contemplating university to get his degree, but he would really like to just get to work!
He is getting so discouraged, and no matter how much I try to cheer him up, it doesn't seem to help.
Anyone have some job hunting tips for him? Or know of any hot spots for his field?
Answer: He might want to search for a government position such as the corps of engineers, even the US Postal Service. These jobs are good with decent pay and benefits. I know because I worked as a government electronics technician and retired in 1996. It will help him get hired if he is a veteran.
